Yep, my mother is the type of person who finds out the life history of the person in front of her in the grocery store check-out — and has figured out exactly how the person needs to spend the rest of her life before the first bag is filled.
Squirrels and chickens. Why don’t people have a good health phobia about snakes. I’ve never seen a giant chicken or sqirrel that could squeeze you to death or little ones that could bite you and kill you.
Mr. Wilson was the character at the asylum who didn’t know what a pooka was and he went over to the dictionary and read:
“….Pooka; From old Celtic mythology. A fairy spirit in animal form. The pooka appears here and there, now and then, to this one and that one at his own caprice. A wise but mischievous creature. Very fond of rum-pots, crack pots; and how are you today, Mr. Wilson…??”
I’ve done Dr. Chumley in three different productions of Harvey, the first when I was about 14 (high school). The part I really want to do is Elwood, but there’s just something about the way I’m built that says “This guy is Dr. Chumley,” I guess.
I’ve also played the mayor in The Music Man and Dr. Einstein in Arsenic and Old Lace. It’s very odd. I just went to The Music Man audition to see what would happen, they had me get up and read the mayor’s part, and judging from the reaction I got I think I had it from the moment I opened my mouth. I don’t think I’d seen the movie since my father took me to see it, so I figure it was all me rather than me channeling Paul Ford.
Actually I think that at some point the small furry helpless creatures were supposed to start shooting back — bunnies with rocket launchers and the like.
because of real life. But maybe on a Sunday night. I’m usually at home on Sunday nights.
It’s been a long time since we did something imaginative and fun in the cafe. (Or maybe not — I haven’t been around much, maybe you’ve been very imaginative and I missed it.)
I must be the last laggard to check in here, but it’s been a busy weekend around the place here… mostly cleaning due to rain and excessive heat again. House is significantly cleaner in some spots, so that’s a plus!
Glad to see you back, MaryB!!! And hearty shoutouts to Andi, Olivia, FM, Omir and Refinish! (btw, RF, tried to listen to your podcast today but no go on my pokey dial up 🙁 … time to get high speed!)
Since I’ve been so scarce lately due to work and personal hellishness, here’s some real RED from yesterday in the garden… This is Lord Baltimore Hibiscus… dedicated to my favorite near-Southern Belle MaryB, since I’ve missed her so much lately… (oh and yeah, O, I have more of you to share soon, hehe…)
Oh, and Omir… I’ve always wanted to play Elwood too … I get all teary eyed when I think of Jimmy Stewart and Harvey … I’ve loved that since I was a kid. Oddly enough, the other role I’ve always wanted to play was Martha in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? that’s a plum role … but I’d look terrible in drag. I could do George, I guess, but Martha would be so much more fun!
Time for bed here and heyas to the early morning crew I’m going to sleep through! One of these days I can get back out in the garden and weed… if the heat and humidity will allow!
Oh, and yeah, I hate squirrels. Pepa hates bunnies. Any video game that signs on to eliminate them, I’m on board!! After all, Pepa can’t get em all, so if I can blow em up video wise, I’m all for that! Ok, PETA types, shoot your attacks at me now… I can take it.
Andie Must be planning on going to bed really early tonight LOL
The pitfalls of geezerhood. 🙂
ROTFLMAO!!!! I will not say that about Miss Andi cause I am scared she would get me back. LOL
So you’re afraid of The Wrath of Andi?
I am too. 🙂
Any Sane person is. LOL
Great minds Refinish, great minds. 🙂
is if you’re that afraid of me, you don’t ever want to meet my mom.
I would probably love your mom. I just know you never call a woman a geezer if you want to live. LOL
I want to meet your mom just to see if she’s what I imagine.
Very social 🙂
HI MaryB!!!!! I have missed you!!!!
I’m surprised you have time to miss anybody, but thanks 🙂
LOL I always miss the ones who make me smile and laugh. Luke sends his hellos LOL
Yep, my mother is the type of person who finds out the life history of the person in front of her in the grocery store check-out — and has figured out exactly how the person needs to spend the rest of her life before the first bag is filled.
I need someone to tell me how to spend the rest of my life.
I was thinking of a career counselor. But I’m sure your mother is better 🙂
Yeah, the trick is to listen intently to what she has to say and then do exactly what you already decided you were going to do.
I want to move to Canada — but only for the summers. Do they have exchange programs?
You have to learn Canadian first I’m told.
Here’s a guide. An American’s Guide to Canada
I’m fluent.
Yeah but have you eaten poutine. I hear it’s becoming a requirement to cross the border. 🙂
Good to see you checking in.
It’s been pretty hot up here this summer … you might want to consider Fall instead.
a girl’s gotta dream.
HI Olivia!!!!!!
🙂
How are you and Diva Dogs doing?
Doing Great. The girls were great again today as the landlord was here working again for 4.5 hours and no accidents.
because you feel guilty. 😉
how to get over that in mere nanoseconds — I am fully qualified expert.
Chicago in October, you can have ’em for free.
I’m just being self-centered because it takes too long for big cafes to load over dial-up.
LOL Okay. I was just laughing at the 24/7 sign as it is so early
about what to do for a lounge cafe.
And I lurve my geezerhood.
LOL Okay. You can call yourself that but I never will.
What are you talking about early. It’s almost 9:00 pm here.
damn you are old FamilyMan!!! LOL 9 is not late.
It is when you get up as early as I do.
Anyway I revel in my geezerhood. 🙂
I get up at 4:30 am and still never go to bed at 9
Well if I slept the day away like you I could stay up late too. :~)
ROTFLMAO!!!! Yes I sleep all day and stay up[ all night and send a robot to work and meetings. LOL
That’s what I figured. Nobody can keep a schedule like you do, eat breakfast at McDonalds and keep going.
Sorry had to get that McDonalds jab in there. 🙂
to blow up chickens with my computer game. I will check back later.
See ya.
Now that’s my kind of game 🙂
I always wanted to design a video game where you went squirrel hunting with a tank, but never got around to it.
If you could design it for killing squirrels and chickens, I think you have a sure buyer with Mary. 🙂
so HA!
And I’m sure CG would buy the chicken killing game 🙂
Squirrels and chickens. Why don’t people have a good health phobia about snakes. I’ve never seen a giant chicken or sqirrel that could squeeze you to death or little ones that could bite you and kill you.
Now snakes, that’s a different story. 🙁
I’ve never seen a giant chicken or sqirrel that could squeeze you to death
So, you’ve seen a giant chicken or squirrel that couldn’t squeeze you to death?
Have you seen a giant bunny? Was his name Harvey?
You lost me on the couldn’t squeeze.
But Harvey. Harvey was a nice bunny.
It sounded like you had seen a giant chicken — just not one that could squeeze you to death 🙂
and how are you today mr. wilson?
I understand now.
I think my mind is shutting down from staying up to late. Was mr wilson the jimmy stewart character?
Wilson…??”
OK. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen that movie.
I remember parts of it, but not all. I like the definition of Pooka.
I’ve done Dr. Chumley in three different productions of Harvey, the first when I was about 14 (high school). The part I really want to do is Elwood, but there’s just something about the way I’m built that says “This guy is Dr. Chumley,” I guess.

I didn’t realize with all your other talents you’re an actor too. Too much talent for one person. 🙂
oops, that’s the Mayor’s wife 🙂
A friend of mine about 15 years my senior played Mrs. Shinn. She was a hoot and a half. The “One Grecian Urn” scene was hysterical.
and would you like to go down to the bar with me and my friend Harvey and have a martini?
IVG doesn’t like bunnies either? If I hear he like snakes, then I don’t know. 🙂
and I’m with IVG on that.
But only a sicko designs a video game where you blow up bunnies with a tank.
Omir?
if you hadn’t missed Thursday Dog Blogging and the sad story of Albert and his abscessed teeth.
When I saw bunnies, the first thing I thought of was Albert.
Is he ok? Was he put on drugs? Did they pull his teeth?
had teeth pulled and is on drugs.
Actually I think that at some point the small furry helpless creatures were supposed to start shooting back — bunnies with rocket launchers and the like.
How is everyone tonight? The temperature finally got up to 85° today but it’s not expected to get past 75 tomorrow.
Hi Omir. I hope you got through the heat OK.
If you miss it, I can send you some.
Way to rub it in.
We aim to please.
Night Andi.
when’s the next musical? Have you been working on it?
Nope not really. I figured I needed the help of two theater people such as you and Omir. 🙂
because of real life. But maybe on a Sunday night. I’m usually at home on Sunday nights.
It’s been a long time since we did something imaginative and fun in the cafe. (Or maybe not — I haven’t been around much, maybe you’ve been very imaginative and I missed it.)
Night Andi.
I hate to leave, but it’s way past my bedtime.
Everyone have a good night, and Mary it’s good to see you back.

at my b-thingie,because you like such things…
