BARBADOS (TimesOnline) Aug. 8 — TONY BLAIR left belatedly for his Caribbean holiday, voicing hope that the United Nations will approve a resolution on Lebanon but preparing to spend much of his time off on the telephone.
Mr Blair set off to join his family in Barbados saying that he was still very much in charge.
WASHINGTON (LA Times) Aug. 10 — The U.S. government raised its threat warning to the highest level for commercial flights from Britain to the United States in response to a reported terror plot in London and also stepped up the general level for all flights within the U.S. or entering the country.
“We believe that these arrests (in London) have significantly disrupted the threat, but we cannot be sure that the threat has been entirely eliminated or the plot completely thwarted,” said Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff in announcing that the threat level for flights from Britain to the United States has been raised to the highest “severe or red” level.

All that hatred, destruction, mayhem and murder the governments of Blair, Bush and others have unleashed on the ordinary Arab is having an effect. Now ordinary Brits and Yanks cant even get the kiddie formula on an airplane because these said governments have created such a reverse hatred of their own people that exposes the average Westerner as a target that is now seen as totally justifiable in the eyes of the “martyrs” who have sen so many of their kith, kin and co-religionists slaughtered by Western military death machines.
The average Westerner has been a target for decades, what Bush and Blair have done is cause the number of people willing to be “martyrs” to mushroom out of control. We will unfortunately be feeling the results of their disastrous policies for decades to come.
I wish I could be a fly on the wall listening to conversations between Blair, Bush, Chertoff and the VP’s office right now to find out whether this is for real. We have never gone to red before, so the assumption is that this alert is genuine, but given Tom Ridge’s admission that Homeland Security repeatedly raised the level for political gain in 2004 it’s kinda hard to believe them. I would love to trust my government, but they lie so damned often that I would have to be a fool to accept anything they say at face value.
It’s hard to believe Blair, Bush et al would disrupt air traffic to such an extent just to fake us out but unfortunately I wouldn’t put it past them at this point.
It has seemed to me since 9/11 and even before that, the Admin. has been trying to break the airlines, from standdowns, regulations, fuel costs, denying help and so on….I predict a new airline run by Halliburton will rise out of the ashes of the major us airlines.
I also remembered back to Howard Hughes and the difficult time he had getting his airline licensed to fly internationally, only one was granted the rights and I can’t rem. the name, but congress declared that only one US airline was needed for international travel.
Interesting prediction, Diane. Time will tell.
I slept in this morning, had a wicked nightmare then woke up to this. I had CNN on for two minutes before I turned off the volume… couldn’t take it. I’d rather find out through one of your diaries, Oui. With a grain of salt. This one sounds legit, but how can you tell when liars are telling the truth?
The worst part about it is that Skeletor (Chertoff) has crawled out from under his rock and we’ll be subjected to his bullshit for a few days. (I sincerely hope that’s the worst of it.)

Terrorize the U.S. by sabotaging 11 westbound civilian aircraft simultaneously with bombs
By Christopher Bollyn – Exclusive to American Free Press
CIA, FBI Knew Since 1995 About Possible Hijack Scheme
With a massive amount of information about planned terrorist attacks in hand, how could the government be caught by surprise on Sept. 11.
The CIA and FBI have known-since 1995-about the terrorist plan to use civilian aircraft to attack the World Trade Center – and the headquarters of the CIA.
The detailed plans to hijack a large number of American commercial passenger planes simultaneously and explode them in mid-flight or crash them into predetermined targets such as the World Trade Center have been well known by western intelligence agencies since 1995, according to Die Welt, the Hamburg-based (Germany) newspaper of December 7.
…
On Murad’s computer the police discovered “Project Bojinka” with its detailed plan to terrorize the United States by sabotaging eleven westbound civilian aircraft simultaneously with bombs, exploding them in mid-air as they approached the West Coast.
Furthermore, “Project Bojinka” included plans to hijack and crash several commercial airplanes into civilian and government buildings simultaneously, precisely as it occurred on September 11.
Yousef independently boasted of the plot to U.S. Secret Service agent Brian Parr and FBI agent Charles Stern on an extradition flight from Pakistan to the United States in February 1995. The agents later testified to that fact in court.
CNN Report -
…
As part of the foiled Bojinka Plot, terrorist mastermind Ramzi Youssef planned to put together an improvised bomb using liquid in a contact lens solution container.
The metal detector and X-ray machines at airport security checkpoints cannot detect such explosives. At many, but not all airport checkpoints, the TSA has deployed walkthrough “sniffer” or “puffer” machines that can detect explosives residue.

Arrests related to the reported terror threat to UK flights took place in London, High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire and the West Midlands.
Twenty-one people are being held in London after night-time raids. One raid was in Walthamstow, east London. Searches are under way at a number of businesses and homes after an “unprecedented” level of surveillance.
Mr Reid said had the attack gone ahead it would have caused a loss of life of “unprecedented scale”. He said they were “confident” the main players were in custody, but neither the police nor government are “in any way complacent”.

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (AP) – Intelligence agents arrested two British nationals of Pakistani origin who provided information on the terror plot aimed at blowing up U.S.-bound passenger jets from Britain, a senior government official said. One suspect was arrested in the eastern city of Lahore and the second was picked up in Karachi, Pakistan’s main port on the Arabian Sea, the official said on condition of anonymity because he did not have authority to speak formally on the issue.
“Our intelligence agencies made the arrests about one week ago,” he said.
He did not have details on whether the suspects have links with al-Qaida or any Pakistani militant group.
An official at the British High Commission in Islamabad could not confirm the arrests, and referred questions to Pakistan’s government.
Pakistan‘s government said it had played “a very important role” in uncovering the plot – allegedly sought to bring down as many as 10 jetliners in a nearly simultaneous strike that U.S. officials say was suggestive of an al-Qaida operation. Interior Minister Aftab Khan Sherpao said Pakistan had made some arrests, but refused to give details.

LONDON (The Scotsman) Aug. 13 — Tony Blair is planning to push through 90-day detention without charge for terror suspects following the alleged plot to murder thousands of airline passengers by blowing their jets out of the sky.
Senior ministers believe public concern about terrorism is now at such a level that they will be able to reintroduce the controversial detention powers, which were rejected in favour of a 28-day limit following the 7/7 attacks.
The 90-day proposal – rejected following a humiliating rebellion by Labour MPs last November – is expected to form the centrepiece of further anti-terror powers to be included in the Queen’s Speech this autumn.
The uncompromising response to the growing threat came as it emerged that the ban on hand luggage on British aircraft is set to continue indefinitely, and could be bolstered by stringent new security screening at all the nation’s airports.

TERRORISTS are “rolling around the caves of Pakistan, laughing” at Britain’s response to the terror threat, an airline boss said last night as he gave the government a seven-day deadline to relax restrictions or face legal action.
Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary described some of the security measures as “farcical, Keystone Kops-like and completely insane and ineffectual”.
Pilots also attacked the measures, which ban them from taking toothpaste on to aircraft, and said subjecting flight crews to the same restrictions as passengers made “no sense at all”.
An estimated 800,000 passengers have been disrupted by the chaos caused by new measures, which resulted in massive queues at airports and led to the cancellations of about 1,800 flights.
