On this day, August 10, 2006, airports and airlines in the United States and United Kingdom, are on “red alert.” This is the highest of all warning levels invoked since terrorism became our truth. Precautionary measures are being enforced with vigilance. All liquids and gels are forbidden on flights. These are thought too volatile. It is known, presumed, or suspected radicals were planning to mix fluids while planes were in the air. These solutions would then be unstable, possibly explosive. “Baby formulas and medicines are the only exceptions, though passengers may be asked to verify that these are not toxic.”
The times they are a changing. I ask you, what are your thoughts on terrorism, here, and abroad?
Do you believe that Bush/Blair, their respective Cabinets, Intelligence, and Security agencies are addressing these concerns well?
Might you believe that were it not for policies imposed by the Bush/Blair parallel, wars would not be in the wind, in the air, on planes, trains, and subways?
I offer no opinions of my own in this short treatise. I only ask you to share your thoughts. It may be too early, too late; it may be moot. Nevertheless, I think talk can only better understanding; therefore, I invite you to discuss.

All I can say is how glad I am to not be flying today.
As for the haunting I do not believe a word out of Chertof’s mouth, nor that of Gonzales – not to mention bush/blair.
I couldn’t help noticing how many times I’ve heard the words 9/11 on the tv this morning. Gosh I’m easily distracted.

My father is flying. I awoke to an early morning telephone call telling me of the situation. He wanted to assure me, he was on the plane.
For me, my thoughts on 9/11 were, this could have been expected. I consider United States policies and think there is ample reason for resentment from others. I do not think they are jealous; sigh. I could go on.
However, let me just say, if there was reason then, there is more now.
I also wonder of internal manipulations, the constant need to create fear among the citizenry. Perhaps, the Bush/Blair alliance has created greater cynicism within me.
Betsy – when I see people suffering like they are today, my response is anger, not fear. I think we’re starting to see that tide turn.
This game has begun to backfire. It’s no surprise that the maniacs will keep on trying the same thing and expecting a different result.

My apology for my delay, company, and preparing a curriculum for a class that did not have sufficient students, and thus was canceled. Sigh.
I believe anger is an expression of fear and pain. Thus, whenever I say, I hate GW,” I quickly add, “Yes, I acknowledge that anger is cause by apprehension and angst. GW definitely leads me to feel such.
I know of many that thought all the new requirements were good. These persons are not “angry”; they truly feel protected . . . just as Bush and Blair predicted and wanted.

As part of the foiled Bojinka Plot, terrorist mastermind Ramzi Youssef planned to put together an improvised bomb using liquid in a contact lens solution container.
The metal detector and X-ray machines at airport security checkpoints cannot detect such explosives. At many, but not all airport checkpoints, the TSA has deployed walkthrough “sniffer” or “puffer” machines that can detect explosives residue.

I made a quick trip earlier to see what DK was saying about all of this and apparently it is a verboten topic to think conspiracy on this topic or to be suspicious in any way, hey I could be wrong but could only find one diary and that was “don’t think it is a conspiracy”.
Personally, I am thinking this is our Aug surprise, rather than Oct. or a tool for the election season.
Or is this a futher assult on airlines and passengers!
I agree with the sentiment that Bush policies have made the world less safe and continuously create animus towards us.
This does reinforce my stance of never flying again, not because of terrorists, but because of the whole way they deal with these things.
Perhaps the best way to secure travel is to require that all passengers travel naked, and without baggage, only allow them to carry a small wallet.
Great idea Diane – how about permitting the naked passengers a fanny pack? That would solve so many problems. They could reserve the overhead bins for ponchos and blankets. Think of the fuel costs we could save.
What a picture – you better believe my flying days would be over.
Actually I think the ponchos and blankets will have to go as well, overhead compartments could be used to hide away Air Marshalls, fully clothed of course, with their hidden camera’s, er, hmmmm, observing the scene.
What do you think about the flight attendant’s uniform – perky little caps, aprons and sensible shoes?

I’ve been distracted by Booman’s deja vu post. My nostalgic web tripping has led me to a Chinese study that shows cannabis is a generator of nerve cells in the brain. Whee! that’s just what I need.
I cannot decide whether I would board a plane with a naked pilot – I really don’t think so. Too many distractions, they’d use autopilot constantly.
I used to be afraid to fly until a train wreck forced me to decide how fast I wanted to get home. Now I’ll wait until we all calm down.

Humm, do we differentiate between conspiracy and a plan. I do not argue that Bush, Blair, and the Bunch had every reason to create greater fear.
Now, weeks later we know that Bush pushed up the date for the arrest. September 11, 2001 was quite a calculated experience. Do I think that America fueled the fire or funded the event, I know not. I only know I long for the days when American government was of, by, and for the people!!!
They do have the scanners that can easy see your genitals. Perhaps, our nude bodies will be place on MRIs before we board a plane.
I do not feel any safer. For each item they ban, they miss other options. It is all so ridiculous to me!
