There are many people here that I have come to admire. Today I am thinking of BostonJoe.
In particular I am thinking of his path of “the Accidental Acitivist.” Now he is very involved in making peace.
This Friday there is another Petals for Peace Day. I am inviting you to join in, delivering a flower to your Rep, and adding his or her name to the ones we can fax flowers.
PETALS FOR PEACE – FRIDAY
Thanks for delivering Petals for Peace to Members of Congress in their district offices during the past few months. Another district work period is here.
Petals for Peace will be delivering flowers with messages of peace on August 18, 2006 during the working day. Terry O. asked us (Ann F. and Margaret N.) to let you know that Petals for Peace is making another effort to reach out to our U.S. Representatives with flowers and messages of peace.
I’ve appreciated Terry’s daily Petals for Peace updates and reminders when we’ve done this before. You will get an occasional Petals for Peace reminder this week, although we can’t promise the wonderful daily updates that Terry sent. Cheers for Terry – and let’s bring our count of Petals for Peace up to 1000 – delivered to U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers’ district office. We almost reached that cumulative number of Petals for Peace in July. Help bring our total count of Petals for Peace to more than 1000 by the end of the day August 18th.
See the details on Petals for Peace below.
Peace,
Margaret N,
checking email and writing from glnawi2004@yahoo.com
“Petals for Peace” is a creative and easy way to send messages of peace and protest the militarism of the US government.
PETALS FOR PEACE
If 200 people deliver or send flowers to US Representative Mike Rogers at his Lansing office this Friday – we will make our goal of 1000 “petals for peace” messages delivered this spring and summer. Join the people sending and delivering flowers to local Congressional offices with messages of peace – petals for peace. Also, send an e-mail to glnawi2004@yahoo.com to let us know you are delivering your message of peace with a flower. We are keeping a careful count. Unless you let us know, we won’t know that you’ve delivered your message of peace.

Thanks. I assume that he is not posting here anymore. Perhaps it was another one of those incidents to which I have been predictably oblivious.
BostonJoe’s group seems very organized – counting flowers and tracking. Please don’t let this inhibit you from doing this with your own Rep.
I figure you make peace with the people you have.
My first participation in Petals for Peace was me delivering impatiens to my Rep’s office. It is not even his main office, so I left my plant and letter with the office staff.
My second visit this Friday will not be much different except I now know where exactly the office is located.
Since my first visit the world has heated up a quite a few more notches. This time I will be taking baby’s breath and reminding my “Right to Life” Rep. that all babies need to breathe to live. I want to know what he has been doing to make the world safer and more peaceful for all babies.
Another thought was that flowers need not be purchased. There are tissue carnations, coffee filter posies, and hand drawn flowers. Perhaps all the wordsmiths and lovers of poetry might write their words in the shape of a flower. Creativity knows no bounds.
Please consider joining in – there is no “right” way to do this. 😉
I don’t mean to diminish any other member here when I say BostonJoe was my very favorite diarist on this site. He’s inspirational on many levels. I miss his energy, his perspective, and his unique, very readable writing style. Thanks, Tompopo. I will take part locally and try to encourage others to do the same.
Tampopo, sorry to misspell your name.
Thanks Liberrylil (teasing you).
If you wish others to fax flowers or can recommend a nearby florist, please post the info with your Rep’s name. Thanks again.
My rep is Pelosi, but I’ve decided to send flowers to my mom’s rep Elton Gallegly, R-CA 24. He’s on the International Relations committee, chairing the Subcommittee on Europe and Emerging Threats, and I would like him to receive our messages of peace. Unfortunately I can’t recommend a nearby florist, but anyway here’s his office info:

Thanks for the report, Tampopo. I’ve been missing Joe around here. Just figured he was hard at work saving the world, no time for blogging. Send my greetings and tell him I loved the book.
If and when you see him, tell him I sad hi and way to go…hugs and btw, thanks for letting updated on his news.
As. You. Wish.
My fellow marcher, accidental activist, non-blood brother and friend.
He knows how it is out there. He walks his talk.
I love you very very much.
this, tampopo. I go the Petals4Peace email and meant to respond and your diary reminded me to do so. I’ll echo the voices above in saying how much I miss BostonJoe’s contributions to this site.
I plan to write an entry up at my blog tomorrow and spread it to other Az Bloggers who may answer the call to Accidental Activism. paz
Your welcome Manny.
And thank you for passing the info along. Please be sure to include Librarylil’s addition (which is in the comments).
I am imagining fax machines around the country’s Reps’ offices humming and beeping, producing a very fine garden of flowers. 🙂
