Love him or hate him, President Bush is having a terrible week while trying
to catch some downtime in Maine. Watching the self-immolation of the Bush
Presidency is certainly a spectacularly sad show. When this week is over
and opinion polls are taken, we are likely to see Bush close in on low thirties
or high twenties in terms of public support for his Presidency. The
drumbeat of bad news is incessant. Consider the following:
- TV screens are filled with documentaries about the Federal debacle in
failing to effectively respond to hurricane Katrina. The images of
bodies slumped in chairs surrounded by weeping crowds seeking refutge outside
the New Orleans Convention Center are searing themselves into the souls of
Americans who take time to watch Spike Lee’s, When the Levees Broke, or the
other retrospectives provided by NBC, CBS, and ABC. I’m reminded of the
old Navy saying, “you can’t polish shit”. Americans watching these shows
also are reminded in the most graphic terms that President Bush was on
vacation when his leadership was needed most.

Hezbollah remains firmly entrenched in southern Lebanon and is busy
consolidating its defenses against an expected next round of Israeli
attacks. Hezbollah has demonstrated that sometimes the best defense is a
good defense.

Bush should be hit by a distrust campaign.
I propose the following simple poster (or bumper sticker):
On a black backround, a big photo on Pres. Bush on the right, in profile; and on the left, the words in white or red: “DO NOT TRUST HIS GOVERNMENT”.
This poster would concieve a lot of what we want to say about Bush and his responsibilities. First of all, we would turn the GOP catchphrase “Don’t trust the government” against themselves – if you were to be consistent of not trusting government, you should not trust Bush as well. Otherwise, some governments are more untrustworthy than others – and Bush government is worse than others. Besides, it is needed to be said that Bush is untrustworthy, or a liar. On one hand, the poster would remind the deceptive and cynical nature of Bush presidency. On the other hand, the poster is decently subtle – not the Bush himself is “attacked”, but his government.
Yeah, cons would cry anyway that the poster is unfair. Unfair for them is anything that hurts them. But they deserve some “unfairness”, ha ha.
Back in the early 70s they published a paperback collection of articles from the magazine. The cover sported a cartoon of Richard Nixon standing in the middle of a car lot, and the title:
WOULD YOU BUY A USED WAR FROM THIS MAN?
Substitute Bush for Nixon and it’s perfect.
or how about “would you buy a used homeland security from this man” or “would you buy a used CIA from this man”!!!
(with a picture of one of his ugliest smirks) “would you trust your family with this man”!!!
Wouldn’t work.
1-NOBODY buys used cars…well, nobody who votes and/or whose votes actually manage to count in the final tally, anyway.
2-Today, EVERYBODY buys things from used car salesman-type hustlers. Please. Just turn on your TV at any time of the night or day and flip around. Used car salesmen and saleswomen EVERYWHERE, huckstering everything from penis pills to magic weight loss dreams. And on the high end, really subtle hucksters running the BIG money scams that feed people so that they need weight loss magic in the first place. And even higher? OTHER hustlers running the culture. Running the educational system. Running the entirely usurious financial system.
At the TOP???!!!
FUGGEDABOUDIT!!!
That’s the scene.
The Nixonization of America.
Up and down the line.
That famous “Nixon on the helicopter” picture. The one where he’s supposed to be waving goodbye?
Uh uh. Nope. Ain’t ABOUT goodbye.
He is saying “FUCK you, motherfuckers!!! THIS is how high the shit is going to be piled up around your ears before the interests that control ME are through with you!!!”
And he was right, too.
On the evidence.
BET on it.
AG
Right. Not just the persona, but the whole system has to be targeted, before it eats everything and itself out.
Would you buy a used America from this man … ?
Typo in the first line of your second to last bullet point.
(not sure if it was the Boston Globe, Herald or Patriot Ledger — I caught sight of it literally over someone else’s shoulder) that Iraq’s own troops are refusing deployments into Baghdad.
…isn’t that special?
I’m no “Dood Abides” but I did put this together for another project I’m working on…”Bicycle-Boy” at the height of his Katrina vacation…
Anywho…back to your regularly scheduled programming.
And this is but the tip of the ice-berg.
There are so many other issues:
The economy and unemployment.
Poverty and lack of medical insurance.
The environment and reliance on foreign fuels.
Gas Prices.
Hurricane season.
Unfair elections.
Sadly the list is virtually endless.
Malcolm from over the Pond.
And on a personal note, his presser in Mississippi was not only incoherent (aren’t they all?) but he also looked awful. His face was bright candy-apple red and he had what I’m positive was a big cut on the end of his nose.
Honestly, he looked like he’d had the shit kicked out of him, or he was poised for a stroke.
Gilliard said yesterday that neither Bush nor Cheney would last until 2008. I don’t know if that’s true, but things are not looking so peachy for our boy.
Since my dislike of GW is real and growing everyday, I should take delight in stories like this one. However, like it or not he is the POTUS, and that means we as a country are not doing well at all. Since this is my country, I just feel a terrible sadness, and growing sense of futility. Is it 2009 yet?
