I’ve cross-posted this at my homepage. As reported at Thinkprogress, next week ABC is airing what could only be called a complete propaganda piece for the republicans, a supposed “Docudrama” about the run-up to the 9/11 attacks. There is somehting that is so insidious about the way this kind of movie operates. But it’s not really surprising considering ABC’s parent compant is Disney, an institution dedicated to the promotion of a mindless adherance to a 1950s mindset. (Don’t thinks so? Go watch The Incredibles and think about how each of their super-powers conform to stereotypical gender expectations.)
So I used Thinkprogresses’ form letter to contact ABC, adding a little at the beginning about boycotting etc. etc… I also emailed my local ABC affiliate to let them know how I felt as well. But, I was still a bit peeved about this, so I watched the ABC Nightly News and wrote down all the advertisers. I’ve listed them below the fold along with their contact info. If you are so moved please write them. If you want you can use the letter I used to write them myself, which is also below the fold.
To whom it may concern,
It has come to my attention that your company is advertising on the ABC network which is airing a movie next week, The Road To 9/11, that politicizes the great tragedy that happened 5 years ago. The film presents a right-wing point of view that blames the terrorist attack on democrats, while masquerading as being based on the 9/11 report.
Because your company is supporting ABC, unless you pull that support I will actively boycott your products and encourage others to do the same.
Your prompt response to this concern will be greatly appreciated.
