That is your best photo yet. It almost commands you to step inside.
Morning SN. How’s HJ doing? Oh yeah and how are your doing? 😉
I’m starting to think it’s a bad idea to let her sleep with me even though it lets me sleep past 5 AM. I want her to think of me as the alpha dog and not her sibling that she can climb all over. This psychological puppy raising is hell. I swear I never fretted half this much over my own kids.
I swear I never fretted half this much over my own kids.
Wow, blatant lies on a Sunday morning — you do want to go to Hell, don’t you? 😉
What I meant was that child raising is more intuitive for me and I trusted my instincts. With HJ I’m motivated purely by wanting her to shut up and let me work or sleep.
I expect that a certain amount of it is just puppiness. That’s one advantage of having multiple dogs — the older dogs keep the puppy in line.
Maybe I’ll fly her up there and you and Giddy and Sniff and Hopeful can foster her. 🙂
I read somewhere once that to show you dog you’re the Alpha dog to put it on it’s back and grab around it throat. Supposedly this is what Alpha dogs do in the wild. Of course while doing this, I don’t know if you are supposed to say good HJ or growl. 🙂
SHe’s on her back 90% of the day anyway (wow, that just invites a dirty comment) because she’s always lobbying for a belly rub.
I always do that to my new coworkers in any new job. I’ve always wondered why I never had anyone invite me to their lunch table or told me which bar they were stopping at after work. snort.
ROTFLMAO!!!! I guess you spend a ;lot of time in HR.
Thanks ::blush::
The light yesterday was wonderful. I took over 60 pictures in about 2 hours.
Enough to keep the cafe supplied long after the leaves have all fallen from the trees.
Well most of them were throwawaya but there are enough to get me through the blah days of late fall.
BTW, are you studiously avoiding commenting on my turtles picture?
I loved the turtles picture. It’s always nice to see other living things that are seeing more action than I am. Was one of them facing the wrong direction? I didn’t have my glasses on.
That was the point — he was overstimulated because he’s not getting any action since he’s completely on top (well unless he is spectacularly endowed which I admit I didn’t check).
I love the image of a spectacularly endowed turtle. 🙂
Maybe I’ll go by the same place and see if he’s still trying.
Speaking of which, Giddy says time to go.
See ya later.
Oh Andi, I totally agree. What a shot! That photo makes me want to walk forever in those woods. I can’t wait to see what you’re hoarding from us for the fotofair.
Hi Nag and thanks. I’m sorry I missed you but I hope you are out taking a great walk right now.
BTW, I’m not one for deferred gratification so no hoarding — I always post the ones I like best. But I’m counting on people’s short memory not to remember some of the ones I did earlier. 🙂
You’ve posted pics earlier???? 🙂
I’m sorry I missed you earlier as well. I had a great mushroom picking session this morning, but few pics. My battery didn’t cooperate. As soon as it’s charged, it’s serious walk time. What a glorious day it has turned into here. Of course, now I also have a bazillion mushrooms to clean, cook, and freeze. Ahh, it’s a labor of love to be sure. My Grandpa would be proud of me today.
I know what you mean about not saving pics. I do the same thing. I get so excited when I get a decent one that I have to rush to post it.
The picture is beautiful!!!!
Good morning, Andi.
Great forest picture.
It’s acutally not “natural”.
Are you seeing curly off to the airport today?
No – heading for the office soon (grouch). She leaves after lunch.
meant to explain “not natural” — the pines are native but because early settlers (1700s/1800s) clearcut much of the original hardwood forests. Much soil erosion later, the state encouraged planting faster growing pines to save what soil was left. In the forest that came back on its own, the pines are widely scattered.
Good morning Andi and ask.
I agree with ask – great forrest picture.
Hi FM. How’s FMom doing today? And how’s your back?
Both are a little better, but just a little. Thanks for asking.
Glad to hear things are better!!!!
FMom is calling. Back later.
Mornin’ everyone. Andi’s wonderful pictures always inspire me to grab the camera and go. Today, after the fog lifts, it’s supposed to be a glorious late summer day. I’m going on a mushroom safari. Yesterday I picked loads and couldn’t get to them all… glorious wild mushrooms. Waiting for their picture to be taken, wating for me to pick ’em. Yessirree, a little tylenol, maybe a beer (for medicinal purposes only) and I’m outta here. Um, right now, though, I’m going for another coffee and a peek out at the fog… maybe I’ll have a bagel and think about all those ‘shrooms.
A ;little hair of the dog? Have fun shroom hunting!!!!
I am getting a late start since I was up till 5 am and then slept till 9. Kidspeak gave a link in a main page story to MUSIC ROW DEMOCRATS where for a contribution of 20 dollars you can get some great music!!!! I will be using some in a podcast and putting the link on my blog and podcast page.
Thanks to all who have donated so far to the AIDS WALK 10/15/2006!!!! You can click on the design to go to my donations page.
Hey refinish, glad to see all those BT names making donations. Way to go.
Yes I am proud of the ponders and very thankful!!!!
to quit holding my money hostage, I’ll chip in a few pennies — hopefully before the actual walk…
Okay!!! I know times are tight for all and appreciate anything anyone can do.
A bit under the weather today — a slight bit of tummy trouble so I’m going to stay home and semi-veg (meaning I might get some work done during football) while I pack the spouse off to church, giving me some quiet time. Already got the bed made at least…
Hope everyone has a great day…
Sorry you aren’t feeling well. I am sending warm thoughts of love and healing!!!!
What a lovely photo-makes me feel like strapping on the hiking boots and heading for the woods it’s so evocative.
Am going to the temple picnic instead, not exactly in the woods but outdoor fun all the same.
Housemate helped me rearrange the living room furniture last night and it has really made the space attractive and usable-the other arrangement just didn’t work and everybody would hang out in the very small kitchen other than the cats. In fact all three of us hung out in the room for more than an hour, something that hasn’t happened before.
I’m teaching myself how to cook; well, I know the basics but there’s a way to cook with and for people that I’m just learning-cooking with heart, I guess. Better late than never.
Have fun at the picnic!!!! Cooking with others is an art. I have found few people I can stand to have in a kitchen with me. LOL
Enjoy the picnic. Good food and good people can be just as refreshing as a hike in the woods.
A very nice natural [not natural] cathederal.
but, alas, no flying buttresses.
… or nuns.
found some magic today mushrooms, didja?
Andi, thanks to the gorgeous photo above, I now know the feeling of intense visual gratification mixed with sodden heartbreak.
Absolutely stunning. Thank you!
Hope all’s well with y’all today. I may hang out a bit, may not. Honestly, this substitute computer needs Depends.
Yeah, I can imagine that the picture might make you a bit sorrier to not be home. I’m usually a basket case after two weeks. Other than being homesick, I hope everything else is good with you.
Have you got the cats with you or are you having to miss them too?
(But if you want see some more forest shots, here’s the album with my summer pics)
Thank you for your link! Excellent!
Alas, kitties are still in the mountains we love. I lost one at our first camp, the other’s with a famous cat-lady. Naturally, miss ’em both. Thanks for asking, my dear.
<sniffle>
Just had a peek at your album. You’ve done some truly beautiful work this summer! I’ve missed quite a lot during my icky hiatus, apparently.
Lately I find myself wishing for my old setup. I’d love flexing my eye in this particular weird environment.
Thanks again for the link. I can see myself hitting it again & again like the reformed crackhead I truly am.
🙂
I’m glad you enjoyed them — I sure had a lot of fun taking them (though the dogs think it’s a pain in the butt that I keep stopping on our walks).
Sorry about the cats. Maybe you can find a ‘gator to adopt while you’re in Florida. 😉
I just had a look too … They’re really good.
Hola, Miss O! Personally, I’m glad you’ve kept your link up in your sig, as well. When I abandoned iMac I lost all my goodies.
It’s good to ‘see’ you again … sorry to hear about your kitties though … >’.'<
Always good to see you, Miss O. Thanks for sympathy re my little allies. How’s things by you lately? Care to describe your weather for me? (I’m now a weather ho).
Why thank you, ma’am — I actually thought you’d seen most of them but maybe you miss more morning cafes than I realize. 😉
yeah … especially this week — I’ve missed mornings and afternoons too … 😉
Ya didn’t miss any in the afternoon ’cause I only put pics in the morning cafes.
Are you going through gradual re-entry into the world of work?
Andi, adoption generally signifies some manner of intended permanence. I’ll retain my fantasies of woodland return & future furry feline kisses, thank you.
Besides, ‘wench of the cement-laden tropics’ doesn’t have quite the same rugged ring to it.
Yeah and an alligator would do a lousy job of warming your feet (though it might remove the need to have your feet warmed).
‘Course, the cats aren’t so great at it either — but at least they’re charming.
Late start, but a lovely day in the foothills…63º and this:
WW…hope you’re near the ocean or the gulf down there…that’s the only positive I can come up w/ for Florida…iPig could probably help you out w/ ‘gator recipes but, alas, he’s been rarer that your wench-full self…:{)
Great pic andi!…that beam of light is almost other-worldly…Close Encounters…cue Twilight Zone Theme
Oh my, dada! Curvy land formations, temperatures below ‘steaming boil’, color scheme sans neon –thank you!
I’m actually on a shrinking slip o’ sand called Miami Beach, between ocean & bay. After this week’s rain we also have locally fetid swamping.
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: wavy blue vistas or no, this state is cursed forever. I thank you for your sympathetic thoughts; some family members found the Beach in its supersonic 60s heyday & never truly left — ergo, here I am, confronting the ghosts of Jackie Gleason’s gullet.
Hope you’re doing well yourself.
whoa!..My condolences
In the middle of a major dose of insanity project wise here…another few weeks and, hopefully, things will normalize.
It’s easier working for somebody else, boring and filled w/ compromises, but easier…:{)
Re employment: my friend Isis is currently doing both & I’m sure would concur.
I second your hopes for a little stabilization & balance, dada. Not an uncommon theme lately, on the whole.
I grew up right around there. Spent half my childhood all up and down those beaches. Feels like forever since I’ve been home. Give the shore a few whispery kisses for me, wouldja? (I agree that the state is a pit, btw; it will probably never be my home again, but you know what they say about how you can’t go home again.)
Hope things get better for you soonest, ww.
Thanks for your good wishes, Indy. Will certainly send out those affectionate kisses for you (if I can manage it discreetly). Frankly, knowing this area was home to you makes it seem a nicer place.
Certainly hope you’re doing ok, settled in, taking care.
Computer & I both experiencing decreased functionality due to overheating. Must exit anon, but I definitely hope to see you later!
Gorgeous day and pic.
It went up to the 80s after a week of the 70s but it’s supposed to go back down to the low 70s and even 60s so I guess I can take one warm day.
<yawn> I’m back.
I’m <yawn> trying to stay awake for at least another couple of hours so I get back on a fairly regular schedule.
Anybody around?
Welcome back.
So tell me everything you did, ate, and saw — well, you can skip the shoes.
Everything? I think I’m too tired.
I had a great time and had lots of great wine and food. My legs are very tired from walking up the streets of the hill towns.
I was just trying to be helpful — if you did a post to tell me everything by the time you got it written, it would be time to go to bed.
Nice tushes?
That’s true — but my brain is mush right now.
Great tushes! In fact, we got in some unexpected beach (watching) time on Saturday along the Mediterranean Coast. You know … it’s not true that all Italian men wear speedos. But those that do have great tushes 🙂
Which is the total opposite of men in this country. The ones that shouldn’t, do.
Better to show off the big bellies. 🙂
Reminds me of the Simpsons episode where Homer went to a beach where you had to wear Speedos. They kept giving him one and he’d put it on and his butt crack would swallow it up, so he’d put on another…and another.
I know!
It’s amazing how attractive young Italians are — they are gorgeous, the men and the women. Then the women hit 50 and become dumpy little Italian ladies. Some of the men, though, stay very attractive.
BTW I mailed postcards from Perugia on Friday — let’s see how many weeks (months?) it takes for them to arrive 🙂
I’m so excited! I hope my mailman reads it and thinks I have exotic friends. Or just friends.
Be fair — it ain’t the guys who are having all those bambinos.
Fair … are you talking to me?
I’m sorry you’d be away so long, I’d forgotten.
Do I get one???
Where are the pictures? 🙂
A man in a speedo? Um, you’ll have to convince someone of that all on your own 🙂
I don’t have a digital camera — and I seldom take pictures. But I used other people’s cameras so they’ll e-mail me some pictures later this week.
Hi Mary.
I thought you were going to be gone longer for some reason. Don’t ya just love jet lag?
So did you have a good time and a bunch of picture you’ll share with all of us.
Hi FM! I’m hoping to avoid total jet lag by staying up until at least 10:00 — if I can keep my eyes open.
No — I was always going for just over a week. I took some pictures, but I’m not much of a picture taker. I’ll get some from the others though.
Well I look forward to see your few and the others many pictures. 🙂
I always hated the jet lag and fighting to stay awake. I still fight to stay awake most of the times now, but I can’t blame it on jet lag anymore. 🙁
Wish I had some home remedies that would work, but I never found any.
You can sleep when you’re dead, FM.
That’s the big sleep. I like the little nap one. 🙂
How’re you doing tonight SN? HJ still giving you grief?
Yes, I gave her a bath and she was good for that. But since then she’s running around the house like Cujo. I had to give her a valium after about 3 hours of that.
Maybe you should consider a couple of days of doggie day care each week. Playing with the other dogs would tire her out. Or you could just get another dog 🙂
The problem is that I’m attracted to the big panoramic views from the top of the hills — and they never really show up in photos.
Yep those are pretty hard to get to come out.
So do you have to go into work tomorrow, or are you going to take a few days to adjust? I vote for the few day.
You are sooo cute.
I worked up until the moment I left for the airport and I’ll be at work tomorrow morning. I might go in late.
Come one over.
