A City Council member, reacting to a video store holdup believed to have been carried out by children, says parents who can’t properly care for their kids should be sterilized.
“We pick up stray animals and spay them,” Larry Shirley said in a story published Saturday by The Post and Courier of Charleston. “These mothers need to be spayed if they can’t take care of theirs. Once they have a child and it’s running the street, to let them continue to have children is totally unacceptable.”

Eric Clapton is playing “Cocaine” in concert again. The recovering drug addict and alcoholic, who founded the Crossroads Centre addiction recovery center on the Caribbean island of Antigua, stopped performing the song written by J.J. Cale when he first got sober.
“I thought that it might be giving the wrong message to people who were in the same boat as me,” Clapton recently told The Associated Press.
“But further investigation proved … the song, if anything, if it’s not even ambivalent, it’s an anti-drug song. And so I thought that might be a better way to do it, to approach it from a more positive point of view. And carry on performing it as not a pro-drug song, but just as a reality check about what it does.”
I adore Juan Cole. He’s right, of course. But if Woodward’s take on things makes people realize how far from reality Bush’s lies are, that’s a good thing.
The more I read about Rummy, the more I think that he has oppositional defiance disorder, on top of a raging narcisism. Rummy and Ashcroft… now that’s a whole lot of incompetence to jam into one room.
As for Musharraf, check out the little item I posted in the other newsbucket this morning. Pakistan isn’t so “stable” and it isn’t so great at fighting extremism, whether you’re talking about the Taliban or elements in it’s own intelligence service.
Well, there are tons of kids with ODD (Oppositional Defiant Disorder) who are not and will never be like Rumsfeld. He’s a piece of work, all right, but I don’t think that’s his problem. (Narcissism is another issue, however.) I wouldn’t want parents who might have a child with ODD to think they were raising up another Rumsfeld. They aren’t – fortunately!
eitb: France surprised by Iranian proposal to nuclear impasse. “In an interview with French radio, the deputy chief of Iran’s Atomic Energy Agency, proposed that a French consortium involving companies Eurodif and Areva could control Iran’s enrichment activities in a “tangible” way.”
Most of the other “regular” sources – foreign and domestic – are just repeating the administration’s talking points.
ABC’s Teddy Davis reports: In a radio interview with 700 WLW radio in Cincinnati, House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) placed responsibility for the Foley matter not being handled properly on House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-IL).
“I believe I talked to the Speaker and he told me it had been taken care of,” said Boehner. “And, and, and my position is it’s in his corner, it’s his responsibility. The Clerk of the House who runs the page program, the Page Board–all report to the Speaker. And I believe it had been dealt with.”
Please note that by saying that he talked with the Speaker about Foley, Boehner is reversing course and going back to his original position.
Let the finger pointing begin… Not to mention the re-flip-flopping.
The Hill reports Joe is considering “defection to the GOP” if he is stripped of his seniority:
“Lieberman said he would keep his senior position in the caucus, even though he lost Connecticut’s Democratic primary, and is running against Democratic nominee Ned Lamont, whom the Senate Democratic leadership has endorsed.
“That’s what I’ve been told,” said Lieberman in an interview Friday, before Congress recessed for the election. “Caucuses like to keep as many members as they can, not discourage membership,” implying that leaders risk his defection to the GOP if they strip him of seniority.”

Is Doh LIEberman really a GOP supporter in disguise? Who would’ve known?

Hmm…do you think he might be a Republican?

Hey, CG, it looks like Knox beat you to posting the bucket this morning.
Yeah, I just noticed that now. Guess that’s what happens when I post and run without looking.
Professor Juan Cole finds It’s time to call a spade a spade:

They were all warned but, No bells went off.

Musharraf makes a U-turn?
Retired Pakistani intelligence officers could be running the Taliban insurgency against coalition forces in Afghanistan, Pakistan’s president, Gen Pervez Musharraf, has said.

That Foley scandal has multiple legs. May just be tip of iceberg.
Laura Rozen points us to Glenn Greenwald on the attempts to cut a ‘bribe’ deal with ABC. It’s ALL about politics.
“We’ll give you an exclusive if you agree not to publish the raw explicit messages”
And the tip of iceberg. H/T(Thinkprogress) Other shoes to drop! “Pages are coming forward, possible about other members of congress

Breaking? Haven’t seen this wide yet:

The coverup begins to unravel?
