I went for the Wine and stayed for Steve Young

I’m cross-posting this from a post on our blog for Ca 48th Steve Young. I thought it was very well done and does a great job of conveying what kind of person Steve is.

Read his post below the fold.

I just came back from a Wine and Cheese Social in Tustin where I had my first exposure to Steve Young for real.  Previously we had only communicated by Email.

What I expected and what I found were two different things to be sure.  Many of us have become cynical about politics and I am no different.

I fully expected to find a stuffed shirt spouting the Democrat mantra.  I expected him to be polished and full of answers that sound great until you get in your car and realize what doesn’t quite make sense. I expected to find an automaton with very little character substance.  Frankly that’s what I though of John Campbell, politics aside, the one time I had an opportunity to see him in person.

What I found could not have been more different.  Sure he went through his ideas and answered all the political questions that were posed and he had some of the polish that answering the same questions from different people over and over again will provide.  That’s not why I was there.  I felt that from reading his web site I knew enough about his views.  I only heard a few things, all of which I liked, that I was not aware of as far policy goes.  I went there to see the man face to face.  I went to judge his character.  I went to look into his eyes and understand his soul, which I did.  I found him to be a man of substance and conviction.  When he talked of bringing Democrats and Republicans together I believed his sincerity.  When he was challenged on his assertions he almost always had details to back up his ideas.  The few times that he didn’t have facts at his fingers he was not afraid to say he didn’t know and listen.  To me this is a sign of interpersonal maturity that is rare.  In short I did not go to listen to his words, but rather to observe his demeanor as he spoke them and I was very impressed.

If you are on the fence about giving Steve Young your support or just want to validate your decision to support him, take the time to go and meet him.  He shows up to these kinds of events all the time.  Take the time, go meet him, look into his eyes and judge his character.  I’m quite sure you will not find him lacking.
