“Iraq has the potential to be to the Republican Party on national security what the Depression was to the Republican Party on economics,” said Representative Rahm Emanuel, the Illinois Democrat who is chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
If it is, it will be purely because the Bush administration made it a Republican war from the outset. Actually, even before the outset…
What do you think? Is Rahm right? Will it happen?
Twenty-four more days until Election Day.
They have pulled a new-reality rabbit or two out of the hat since the year 2000. Every time they were truly threatened with public exposure of the truth. The truth of the matter being that they are absolutely and completely void of any values whatsoever except those of fear, hatred and greed.
Can they do it again?
There is still lots of time to play games.
Purely electoral games AND killing games.
We shall see.
Let us pray.

I don’t think the Republican Party needs a reason to fail. I think it is built into their genes. Whenever they come to power, sooner or later they destroy themselves.
Someone made the argument a while back that the Republicans make a pretty decent opposition party as long as they don’t every actually come to power, and that the Democrats make a fairly decent ruling power, but don’t have a clue how to be a viable opposition. Wish I had a link handy. The more I think about it, the more their argument makes sense. I think we’ve seen both those arguments demonstrated over the past twenty years or so. Even when they are in power, the Republicans still engage in the same kind of paranoid trench warfare politics that they practice as the opposition, with predictably toxic consequences. And even when they’re out of power the Democrats still act like the majority, with predictably ineffectual results.
Seriously, the Republicans have done a fairly good job of keeping the Democrats honest, for some fairly loose definition of honest, over the years, as long as the Democrats have had a working majority and the Republicans have had a strong enough minority to make themselves heard. But when the Republicans have taken power, they have self destructed while the Democrats sniped ineffectively and fought among themselves.
Name one thing the Republicans have done right since 94. I can’t think of anything, can you? And yet, what have the Democrats have done to effectively counter them. Not much comes to mind there, either. Even now, when we seem to be on the verge of a once in a generation tsunami, if it happens it will be another case of Republican self-destruction. This election, and the sea change it seems to promise, is the Republicans’ to loose much more than it is ours to win.
From my old hometown district, this Twit, who followed in daddies footsteps, should never have been elected, his oldman, as bad as he was, was a better rep. when he was in.
Hopefully Central New York will finally Rid Itself of this Putz!!
Good ad by the way:
