Click on the screen above to go to YouTube and see what Toyota calls “retiring” a vehicle. Looks like its being “crushed” to me.
Toyota signed an agreement with DontCrush stating that they would keep most of their electric vehicles on the road, but the truth is that they are crushing most of their electric vehicles instead. Tell Toyota to Stop Crushing Clean, Quiet Electric Vehicles. Here is why and how…
Above is a picture of the Toyota built RAV4-EV, an all electric vehicle. Toyota produced all electric vehicles for a short time because it was mandated to produce ZEVs (Zero Emission Vehicles) by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). CARB mandated this because 6,500 Californians die prematurely each year due to respiratory illnesses directly linked to the pollutants produced by gasoline burning cars and other air pollutants. The Bush administration, automakers and dealers, and oil companies lobbied CARB successfully to remove the ZEV mandate. Once the mandate was lifted automakers have been removing these vehicles from public view. GM, Honda and Nissan have already removed their vehicles from citizen’s hands and crushed, shredded or otherwise destroyed most of these vehicles. Toyota still has a large number of these vehicles, (the Toyota RAV4-EV) in fleet leases. Toyota has refused to use the work “crush” preferring to use the word “destruction,” “retire” or “recycle” when it talks about how it disposes of its electric vehicles after they are returned, however, Toyota crushes most of these clean energy vehicles just like GM, Honda and the others.
We want Toyota to stop removing its electric vehicles from use. Recycling clean fuel vehicles is not a benefit to society when global warming and air pollution are the main problems we are facing. We need vehicles that don’t pollute like electric vehicles. We need to tell Toyota that they have to stop crushing ZEVs.

Under Subject put in Sell the LADWP’s Rav4 EVs to the public.
Under Question Please put something like this.
What are you planning to do with the RAV4 EVs now being leased by LADWP whose leasing contract is ending soon? Please make the RAV4 EV electric vehicles that are coming off lease from the LADWP and other places available to people who want to purchase them. We do not want them crushed, destroyed or removed from use. We believe that at a time of crisis with gasoline in the United States and around the world it would be a poor public relations move to take away these vehicles when they could do the most good to help with the crisis. Please make the entire fleet of vehicles coming off lease available for the general public and to other organizations for purchase. Thank you.
Thank you for all your help in the all important work of saving this rare but important vehicle.
PS. If you live near Los Angles, there is a meeting of the LADWP Commissioners on Tuesday, October 17th, at 1:30 PM, at 111 HOPE ST. Go to ROOM 1555 on the 15th floor. The LADWP Commissioners are trying to figure out what to do about their currently leased RAV4-EVs. Get there around 12:30 PM for the press conference and see stars from the movie Who Killed the Electric Car?
