Really? I walk all year (unless it’s down in the single digits). There’s even a payoff for walking when it’s cold — you burn more calories because, besides the exercise, you use extra calories to stay warm.
I do have some favorite woodsy paths, but not right here by the house. You probably thought that because you’ve seen pictures of my woods. I wish I had your paths!
It actually looks like the rain has stopped, so I still might get to go this morning. I have some friends from the neighborhood that walk with me on Tuesdays and Thursdays. It’s funny, I like walking with them and catching up on what’s going on, but I also like my solitary dog walks too, where I get to think or space out or whatever. I need that.
Meh. We’re having trouble with someone backtalking and someone else not wanting to do his homework. This parenting thing involves a lot of work, flying by the seat of your pants, and feeling ike a failure sometimes.
I’m glad the weekend will be arriving soon. Except that’s busy too. 🙂
I was just saying yesterday that this must be some sort of biological imperative or something…children need to drive their parents insane so the parents will be more than ready for them to grow up and move out.
I’ve read that that is actually true. Plus their brains are so…borderline schizo at that age.
When I think of starting again with another baby I could absolutely do everything except the school part. I really don’t like all those cute little projects they “encourage” you to do with your child. Um, thanks, I did my homework 30 years ago.
First time for me since the mid-70s when I lived in area of indiana that did do DST. I can’t say that I like DST at all but I do like not having to constantly explain what time it is.
Yeah I can see the hassel of explaining all the time. I guess in some ways I like the time change and some ways I don’t. I can’t ever remember living someplace that didn’t have them, so it would be interesting to go a couple of years to see what the real world time is like.
She has a rather manly voice and a heavy southern accent. And she likes to orchestrate people’s lives but she disguises her control with “southern charm” which doesn’t fool me a bit but has kept her son on a short leash for 52 years.
Sounds like a typical m-i-l. I think the trick is to out smart her at her own game. Turn on the yankee charm – oh wait, I’ve never heard that expression. 🙂
Hi Folks!!!! Well, I am down with a cold but still working and tonight I will force myself to do phone banking no matter how I feel. The county I live in has the 2nd highest turnout for early voting so far in the state!!!!!
Good morning froggies,
My youngest daughter is off to the UN this morning with her high school class. I’d hoped to polish my image with her and her image with her friends by asking a certain UN employed Tribber to say hello if it was possible. But I came back down to Earth and decided not to ASK ;o)
Good morning all! The warm weather is over here but at least the boran2 boy had it for Halloween. His grim reaper costume worked out nicely. Now we’ve got to ease all that candy out of the house without him being aware.
Howdy, kids. Gorgeous photo you’ve got up there, Andi — such delicious golden light. Thank you!
Pouring rain here in south FL. This morning’s Herald includes a report on a ‘chilly’ winter here this year (ha ha), while winter elsewhere are predicted to be warmer.
I’m afraid I’m entering into a bit of a leaden depression here. I’m guessing that a) I’m experiencing election foreboding, or b) I’m not in the mountains. I’m guessing it’s ‘b’.
Let’s just hope it doesn’t get any worse!
In any case, there are tremendous lightning flashes here, big thunder — I should log off before I’m thrown off. See y’all later! Enjoy the day.
.. winter temperatureselsewhere are predicted to be warmer.
Man, what a rainstorm! High-rises along the beach, just across the highway — uh, Avenue — are obliterated by rain. There’s definitely bound to be extensive flooding here today, as there’s really no such thing as drainage/sewer system.
What a shame the rain has absolutely no effect on relieving humidity.
I know what you mean about the election foreboding — I keep having this sense of doom that won’t go away and I’m here in the woods so I can’t blame being it on being displaced.
Sorry about the crap weather — if you can’t be home in your lovely mountains, the least florida could do is give you sunshine and pleasant temps.
Definitely election foreboding here. My neighbor and I were talking the other night and remembering how hopeful we were in 2004 and that we would be rid of the Bush Regime, and how this year, we don’t dare let our hopes get up because we’re afraid of the crushing depression we felt the day after in 2004.
Gimme a bottle of Old Elephant Tranquilizer and keep ’em coming. It’s been a very stressful week, it’s only Thursday and the election is currently not even a blip on the stress-o-meter (which is currently spinning so fast it’s serving as a desk fan).
GAAAA! The dog is driving me crazy while I’m trying to clean the house! She just stuck her head into the door of the litter box and ate cat shit, and then barfed it up on the new carpet.
OK, I laughed at that — but then again I’m not the one who has to clean up after the dog.
I just have this mental picture of the dog with a thought balloon over its head going, “Hey, why don’t they get this stuff more often? It tastes better than that dry stuff from Piggly Wiggly.”
HJ is just creating joyful memories for you. I bet when she’s 5 – 10 years old you can look back at that spot and remember exactly what you were doing that day. 🙂
George has a way of letting me know when he’s displeased. If there is any small trash can with paper in it, he gets the paper and chews on it and spread it all over the house. Yesterday when I got back home he was very displeased with being left alone during a thunderstorm. I can’t really be mad at him because I know better than to leave small unemptied trash cans.
It’s sort of like baby proofing your house. SN needs to puppy proof her place. 🙂
She also loves to steal the toilet brushes out of the bathrooms and carry them off to chew on them later. Toilet paper and trash are fair game. Yesterday she jumped up onto my bed and got a new shirt right out of the shopping bag and chewed it up. I don’t know how to puppy proof my house. :/
Have you looked on the net to try and find any instructions on how to train her out of this? If I could train George to stop the yapping, that would be a good thing. 🙂
Getting some assorted stuff done before heading out — we’re having a healthy early dinner (soup/salad) so we’ll be too full to eat junk food at the hockey game (Sharks/Rangers) tonight. I’ll let the spouse have one beer early on…at Shark Tank prices can’t really have more than one anyway. 😉 Wearing my Patrick Marleau shirt, and it’s already feeling loose — may have to get some new T-shirts before the end of the season. 🙂
Thanks to all who recommended my Countdown diary — I was writing it in the rush of adrenaline after watching the show. Best.show.ever, IMNSHO.
Hope you have a great time at the hockey game tonight. Thanks for writing the Countdown diary. I went over and ready the transcript and you’re right, it is great.
Good morning!
Raining here. Our blast of Indian summer is over.
Since you almost always get our weather, I can practically guarantee it. Temperature right now is 26.
Yep, that’ll be tomorrow. I guess treadmill season is about to start for me. Ick.
Really? I walk all year (unless it’s down in the single digits). There’s even a payoff for walking when it’s cold — you burn more calories because, besides the exercise, you use extra calories to stay warm.
I don’t mind the cold so much as the rain. Too many SUVs driving to fast on leaf covered roads. It’s scary when they come sliding at me and the dogs.
I didn’t realize you had to walk along roads — not sure why but I always thought you had paths to walk in the woods like I do.
Good morning Andi and CG.
Hi FM. How’re you this morning?
Doing fine CG, just trying to wake up. It takes me about a month to get used to the time changes.
Hope you and the Cabin Family are good today.
Meh. We’re having trouble with someone backtalking and someone else not wanting to do his homework. This parenting thing involves a lot of work, flying by the seat of your pants, and feeling ike a failure sometimes.
I’m glad the weekend will be arriving soon. Except that’s busy too. 🙂
Ah yes, the joys of raising children.
It gets easier. Nah that’s a lie. 🙂
Are you trying to make me cry? 🙂
No I was kidding. Actually when they get to the age of “how did Mom put up with me”, you’ve got it made then. 🙂
If I can survive that long, nothing will kill me.
Well, file these days away for when they get ready to leave the nest — it’ll cheer you right up (worked like a charm for my mom).
I was just saying yesterday that this must be some sort of biological imperative or something…children need to drive their parents insane so the parents will be more than ready for them to grow up and move out.
I’ve read that that is actually true. Plus their brains are so…borderline schizo at that age.

I think I’m starting to adjust — I slept all the way to 4:45 this morning.
This is the first year you ya’ll to have the change isn’t it?
I’m still trying. Last night I thought it’s 8:00 pm and I’m going to bed, but then thought, no it’s 9:00 pm and bedtime.
I should be adjusted soon I hope.
First time for me since the mid-70s when I lived in area of indiana that did do DST. I can’t say that I like DST at all but I do like not having to constantly explain what time it is.

Does anybody REALLY know what time it is?
Does anybody really care? Nope, not me.
Morning, FM.
How’s the Nature Family today?
Have you gotten any cold weather yet?
The local weather guys are talking about ‘frigid’ temps coming soon, which means nights in the 30s and days in the 50s. I’ll take frigid like that.
I’ve got a day filled with cleaning and then dinner with my in laws. Ick.
Yeah I think we’re supposed to get down into the 30’s on Friday.
Cleaning and dinner with the in-laws. Have you ever wondered how could life get any better? 🙂
My MIL talks like a cross between Julia Child and Scarlett O’Hara.
For some reason I can’t get a picture of that in my mind. I keep trying to picture Julia Child saying ya’ll. 🙂
She has a rather manly voice and a heavy southern accent. And she likes to orchestrate people’s lives but she disguises her control with “southern charm” which doesn’t fool me a bit but has kept her son on a short leash for 52 years.

You get a big Ha Ha for that one, FM. But you know I have tons of charm. 😛
Of course I know you have tons of charm. You’ve been down here for awhile haven’t you? 🙂
No you m-i-l sounds like my x-m-i-l. Very controlling person.
just how cold it really is.
Ta.
See ya. Don’t freeze.
Well, I guess I have to actually start cleaning. See ya.
Yeah I’ve got to get ready for my Dr’s Appt.
Enjoy the cleaning and see ya’ll later.
I get to see Al Gore on Saturday. Woohoo! 😀
Cool!
That should be great!!!!
Hi Folks!!!! Well, I am down with a cold but still working and tonight I will force myself to do phone banking no matter how I feel. The county I live in has the 2nd highest turnout for early voting so far in the state!!!!!
I’ll be doing phone banking on Saturday, my first time.

I would have asked anyway. LOL I hope they have a great time!!!!
I think you should Ask away, provided you know this person’s email address.

OK, later. Flash flash, boom.

Hi Omir.
Take 10 deep breaths and 2 Elephant Tranquilizers and call me in the morning.
Hope your week gets better.
You forgot the part about the $15 copay.
Or, as the old joke goes,
“Doctor, it hurts when I do this.”
“Well, don’t do that. That’ll be $20.”
(Today it would be $100. I told you it was an old joke.)
In that case just take the 10 deep breaths. I don’t know why, but at least they haven’t started charging us for air.
GAAAA! The dog is driving me crazy while I’m trying to clean the house! She just stuck her head into the door of the litter box and ate cat shit, and then barfed it up on the new carpet.

Why not? The dog probably will.

She does it all the time, minus the barfing. She thinks it’s like an all you can eat buffet just for her.
Now lets see. Is it HJ or the bird that you let clean your teeth? 🙂
Henry, George’s brother, used to do that and I would just tell FMom he was trying to do his part in recycling.
Thank god it’s the bird. But HJ wakes me up with a tongue to the face. Mmmmm.
Have you looked on the net to try and find any instructions on how to train her out of this? If I could train George to stop the yapping, that would be a good thing. 🙂

Okay, back to work…
Hope you have a great time at the hockey game tonight. Thanks for writing the Countdown diary. I went over and ready the transcript and you’re right, it is great.
