I saw that, it was a very good presentation, good that you posted this….
I saw it twice. I highly recommend you link to anyone who hasn’t seen it twice yet.
I saw this as well, and it mainly dealt with the anger and disenchantment that veterans feel when they realize their sacrifices were for nothing but a sham political argument.
That is one aspect of an unnecessary war, but what I have been thinking about are the families, mainly the parents, of those that died in such unnecessary conflicts. What do they feel and think about when they realize their loved ones were an unnecessary sacrifice to greed and spin and lies. I am sure some react differently than others with Cindy Sheehan being one path of protest to follow. I sure there are others that will react in less predictable ways but how I am unwilling to speculate on now. Any thoughts from others?
Americans are going to experience because of Iraq. I feel in my heart that the people know this on a certain level and that is why Iraq was on the front burner during the election and it still is. After Vietnam we realized that the whole nation will have to suffer what it asked of its soldiers. I grew up watching my Uncle try to process Vietnam along with the whole country. It was a common topic at the dinner table after things had died down during get togethers because he was ours and he was America’s and obviously he had somehow been hurt and so had those who were with him and the people of Vietnam. People needed to talk, soldiers needed to be heard, and once the people heard the truths they found themselves wounded in ways as well. I am proud that Americans are trying to put the brakes on the Iraq War. It is some proof that the people of America have learned something and the mistake has been made and we can’t undo it but maybe we can lessen the size of the horror that all of America will have to face. I just had an early lunch with my husband who while he was eating and talking about Abizaid’s testimony shook his head and said, “Bush wanted to be remembered, and he’ll be remembered all right.”
