so, I fibbed about the sun….where is AndiF this morning?
Don’t forget to go vote for olivia!
Good morning CG.
Don’t know where Andi is and I voted for Olivia very early this am.
We’ve got to get people to get off their backsides and start voting.
Hey, I voted too! Maybe it should be the subject of an open thread… 🙂
I heard from her earlier yesterday morning, but nothing since.
Morning Olivia.
How are you feeling today?
Still a bit yucky, but I’ll be okay.
How about you?
About the same as you. I’ll be so glad when this stuff is gone.
I was wondering about her power situation, also.
MOrning, Olivia.
Good to see you this early morn…:)
Morning, CG & FM. I’m going to pretend I didn’t hear FM say, “We’ve got to get people to get off their backsides.” A call to action, FM ??
Nope just getting people up and moving around.
Well yes, I guess it is. Hated to use such a harsh word like backside though. 🙂
“Backsides” I can live with, it’s the rousing, motivating tone that is so unslackerly.
Well I had a no sleep night, so I can blame it on being tired. Rousing and motivating definitely isn’t me. 🙂
You’re secret’s safe with me.
I think it’s one of those secrets known by all. 😉
Why are you still home? Does your school day start late?
School starts at 9 and I live 10 minutes away from school. I’m not a morning person, so I don’t get there early.
Gotta Go.
just their mouse hands… 😉
Good afternoon fans…good day thus far. Up early and went out for a good breakfast, then did some errands…now down a pants size in all pants, not just jeans, so I’m going to be sending a LOT of clothes off to those who need them more this winter. 🙂 This afternoon, spouse has another follow-up appointment with the doctor (he put on a pound or two since the last visit, so he’s nervous about getting “the look”), then we’re doing a couple more errands before coming home to have dinner and watch the Sharks play on TV tonight. Oh, and I’m still leading in the hockey pool. 🙂
Still need to get some stuff cleaned up so we can get the heater turned on…getting quite chilly in here…
I’m running out to pick up CBtE, who has just been suspended from school for disrespecting a teacher yesterday. Crap.
This parenting thing has it’s ups and downs, doesn’t it?
Good luck on that. Like I said, give him about 30 years and he’ll come around. 🙂
Sorry to hear that … Definitely not a good start to the day. Good luck!
They suspend kids for that in your part of the world?
He was disruptive and used the eff word, and apparently that’s what they do here.
When I got the phone call, I assumed they were calling to complain about the gelled-up hair done mohawk style. Surprise, surprise.
Yeah, the F-bomb’ll usually do it. The Mohawk doesn’t help. Chalk it up to another lesson that presentation is a choice with consequences.
I get the finger a couple of times a month, but I usually deal with that myself wo/suspension. “Effing” tends to blow up the class and to get things back on the rails you’ve to hammer the Effer. BUt then I’ve got 8 – 10 year-olds, different ballgame.
I’ve come to the conclusion that Andi is like orange juice…morning just isn’t the same without her.
I suspect a power outage. I hope so.
CG, I’ll never understand the wisdom of suspending a kid from school when they generally love to stay home anyway. Of course, knowing you, you won’t make the days off a picnic for him.
Morning SN.
I agree with you about sending the kid home. Doesn’t make sense to me.
Yeah, I had an argument with the assistant principal this morning about their inability to do anything that was of any value in the situation. Thank God he had the good sense to hide in his den when I came to the school to pick CBtE up.
the ball here from your time stamp. I’m sorry friend 🙁 and agree with you that suspension doesn’t seem to solve much. B had that one last year for writing Fuck Mr Baker on the linoleum stairs in permanent marker 🙂 Do what you can to take it in stride. When you raise outspoken children sometimes they really suck at it at first. B is in Mr. Bakers choir again this year. How about that? She gets all A’s from him too. Life is just weird when you are someone’s parent and I’m not sure it ever really stops once you have crossed into the parent zone.
Just got off the phone with the Outward Bound folks. Looks like someone is going to be spedning some time hiking and camping in Texas in January.
I love you mucho and you are a really terrific mom. Like super terrific! You care for your guys and ALL THAT THAT ENTAILS and when the going gets tough you know exactly how to get going and you have the ovaries to carry it all out 😉
Tell him you looked into Iraq, but couldn’t get a cheap enough flight…maybe that’ll wake him up. 😉
(My brother told my nephew he had a choice — school or the Army…he’s doing quite well in college now… 😉 )
I’ve got people stirring and need to start breakfast.
I’ll check back in a little while.
See you all later.
I always miss the cart, it isn’t here at 5:30am, then I don’t get back until now.
Anyway, I’m already tired, {yawn}. Murnin’
That is too cool that you’ve got Elizabeth Edwards at your blog. I absolutely love her!
Hey guys — just dropping by for a short status report.
You are right. I lost both power and the phone — somebody caught the power and phone lines on their truck (a very big truck, I assume) and tore the hell out of the cables. Power is back but no phone so I’m at the library for a little bit to catch up on things. Don’t know when the phone will be back so I don’t know when I’ll really be back online.
Good to hear from you … At least you’ve got power, and hopefully you’ll get phone lines reconnected soon!
I’m glad you’re okay. I was a little worried when there was no cafe when I got up, but I wasn’t sure if I had just missed that you were going away or something.
As soon as I brave going into my husband’s work shed and seeking out the extension cord stash I will tame my plugins today. We went to the Christmas parade last night at 6:00 pm. It didn’t get over until 8:30, if I thought we could scrounge up just about anything and find it parade worthy in Wyoming I hadn’t seen anything yet until I experienced a small town Alabama homemade parade. Every damned tow truck within two counties was there with bells on!
Ooh, they’re very professional looking! I have this dinky little porch-ette that I just hate. I grew up in an old colonial with a huge porch and I really miss it.
As I keep saying to anyone who’ll listen, regarding my continuing homestead adventure: all I want is my own place to sit & watch the flowers grow. Size in this case is irrelevant, as long as it’s big enough for my ass!
That’s a pretty inviting threshold, MT! You’ve done a terrific job!
Glad to see everyone doing reasonably well here — gratified to know that life does, in fact, go on.
I’m certainly familiar with tricky-type rural powerline business & trust Andi will be back OL in a short while.
Happy BooDay plus1, FM! No doubt you’ll catch up on your rest today.
Makes me feel proud. Especially that they look professional SN. I was the flower delivery girl in high school and all of the “floral designers” wanted the punkette to understand that it takes a deep knowing and an amazing sense of style to DO FLOWER THINGS. Well, unless it was Mother’s Day or Valentines Day and then suddenly I was magically adequate to do a dozen roses but upon the next sunrise the magic fell off of me. I wanted to make pretty things like they did 24/7 and I watched everything they did and whenever they would lower themselves to showing me something I jumped right up to learn.
Brava, MT! That’s the way to go.
As for this punkette, I attempted flower-arranging professionally back in the day — lasted about three days. No capacity at all. Plus, the day started at 5:30 AM in Manhattan’s plant district. All for the best, methinks.
we have a dial tone 🙂
which means that I have no excuse to avoid my 3 p.m. conference call. 🙁
Good to see you back, Andi (despite the downside).
By any chance, is ‘The Cosmic Muffin’ the name of your utility company? Personally, I’d love writing out my monthly check that way ..
One of my pups is cracking me up. She’s going to come with a warning “Will Try to Run Household”. She always does things she’s not supposed to do and it’s like she can’t help it. She has the Dennis the Menace gene or something. All the dogs know that the kitchen is sort of off limits. You can come in here and lay next to me but no nosing food or counters or anything like that. I was unloading the dishwasher and went into the living room for something and here comes Miss Dennis. Apparently she was smelling the insides of the dishwasher and then the bottom basket got attached to her collar and she was careening through the house with it attached to her body, small plates flying. She’s deeply ashamed that she has been caught. She always gets caught. She has the worst Menace luck you can imagine, but it never deters her from the next adventure.
Sounds like CBtE.
You thought it was bad when it happened to you until it happens at you 🙂
I s’pose I was merciful to leave home at 17. Presto — no more adolescence!
I got a suitcase for my 18th birthday! Hint hint.
How long did it take for you to use it properly, SN?
Me, I got my big hint at 15 — a 21-year-old stepfather.
Twenty one? Yikes.
I moved out as directed and never came back except for short visits. We knew we had a home for 18 years and after that it was pay up bigtime or move out.
Given the choice between paying up at home or paying up outside, I’d definitely choose the latter.
Now, it seems many young folks can do neither. It’s too bad.
Yep, 21. My menopausal mother thought she’d found the fountain of youth. What she got was the son she never wanted — an unemployed actor looking to re-interpret Something For Everyone, his favorite film.
Alas, he was no Michael York (to say the least).
That’s the spirit!
😉
If my dog would just stay out of the kitchen I’d be a happy camper. Her legs are only 3 inches long but she stands up on her hind legs and noses things off the counter, she licks the dishes as I’m putting them into the dishwasher, she trips me as I’m going back and forth from counter to stove to sink during cooking. Grrrr.
‘Attention please, dammit!‘
She’s a total attention slut. The more she gets the more she wants. 🙂
I see — the breed known as the Conundrum.
I’m afraid the only remedy may be another one.
I was thinking the same thing, but I think my husband would have a fit. Two indoor cats, two dogs, a squawky lovebird. Stay tuned. 🙂
I’d just like to know how much time he spends in the kitchen.
🙂
Only long enough to snarf down the food and park himself in the lazy-boy. 🙂
Who could’ve guessed?
I turned down a jack russell terrier puppy last week because I fell for the ‘too many’ theory — what a fool I was! Don’t you give in to such ridiculous logic.
I’m afraid I’ve succumbed to the theory, too & allowed my brilliant Manx kitty to be taken for neutering by his caretaker.
‘Course, it’s quite a different deal when it’s about how many animals to house, not how many are tossed to the proverbial winds ..
are you the big Chihuly fan? I was doing some research for my upcoming trip to Vegas (a friend was supposed to get married but her idiot BF broke off the engagement, but I already made my reservations so I said “Screw it, I’m going anyway!”) and just found out there’s a Chihuly shop at the Bellagio! I know there’s no way in Hades I can afford any of the works, but I may stop there and pick up a book or two.
Actually not planning on doing any gambling…or not much at least — I’m looking forward to doing some photography, seeing a lot of the sights I didn’t get around to seeing my last trip a couple of years ago, and doing some people-watching; I’m always looking for story inspiration, and maybe I can set a portion of one of my chick-lit projects in Vegas. I’ll at least get some practice in description writing perhaps. At the very least, it’ll be an adventure, and I haven’t had a solo adventure in several months, which is probably why I’ve been so cranky…I need to stretch my wings occasionally or I start to peck at the bars of my cage…
I am a big Chihuly fan! The ceiling in the Bellagio lobby is a Chihuly creation, and I went to check it (and the gift shop) out when I was at YearlyKos. It is really cool.
Sounds like you’ll have a good time while you’re there. When are you going?
Did you make it to the NY Botanical Gardens show, CG?
I seem to remember your plan to go (in my typical fog).
and here are the photos. 🙂
Wow. Thanks for sharing those! Amazing.
