Robert, by Ink – do you mean public dissemination of an idea? I think that comes slowly, as changes in the natural world move at the speed of glaciers. Being human is an exercise in patience. Online response can seem to take forever and yet sometimes be astonishingly quick.
What exists online is shared energy. We probably need a new word for it.
My wife is in her first semester back at school, in a program that is rated #1 in the country. Needless to say, weekeneds end up being me taking care of both kids, cleaning the house, doing laundry, buying groceries, and everything else that neither of us had the opportunity to do during the week.
BUT, it also gives me a chance to watch Tarheel basketball, like today!
Hi Andi, ask, boran2 (and anyone else who just snuck in!).
We have power! I’m still excited about it.
And CBtE is driving me crazy. He has homework he needs to do, then he can go hang out with friends, but he’d rather spend a couple of hours arguing about it than doing it. Guess he likes it here with the ‘pointless homework’ and the ‘stupid’ mom. then.
Thanks, b2.It was annoying to get home and still have to wait 2 more hours for it to come back on, but at least it’s back. Apparently, our neighborhood was the only one to lose power at all, so at least they got to it quickly.
Good Morning. How is everyone? Indian summer is gone in Northeast Wisconsin too. But I think we got away easy. We only got a little over an inch of snow, some wind, and no ice. But I always reserve the right to complain about the cold weather. I’ve earned it living in Wisconsin for over 50 years. Oh yeah – home Packer game tomorrow. Those are the days I appreciate being able to watch the game in my nice warm living room.
He Blue Redhead. You’re probably gone by now, but welcome to the cafe. I don’t think I’ve seen you stop in before — at least since you de-lurked the other night 🙂
I guess this is my official cafe delurking. I have my dishes done for the month, and the clothes are in the dryer. Time for a hot bath, with soothing music and lots of candles. And perhaps a book to read if the mood strikes.
I’m glad Andi and everyone got power because I slept late and then forgot to check to see if there was a cafe. But here it is. Good morning. I’m heading out to Starbucks for coffee.
Actually, looks like Ms GR and I are headed up to see SallyCat, fabooj, and some others this afternoon, and then to the theater this evening with a friend we made this past political season. Not sure about tomorrow, but I might try to make our pickup baseball game. How about you?
Back so soon — what, there weren’t six people in front of you each one with orders that were so increasing complicated that you could see the baristas planning their retirements.
I usually try to jump the line at Peet’s by going to the line to buy coffee beans. But then I end up behind the person that orders a mix of half regular, half decaf, and wants the coffee in two half-pound bags, one ground for a drip maker and the other whole bean. In the end, I would’ve been better off waiting behind the double decaf latte with a twist crowd.
My dad was just telling me that my uncle woke up in the middle of the night on Thursday and thought — wow – -look at all that lightning! But it was really the transformer blowing 🙂
It would help if it would warm up and melt the ice out of the trees — every time Ameren gets some people up, others go down because yet another branch comes down. There’s a lot of week branches left over from the summer’s storm.
No diary. My Italian Shoe diary was the most photo diarying I’ll ever do — and wouldn’t have done that if I hadn’t known Izzy would get a kick out of it.
I don’t know. Maybe during the bleak days of winter I’ll post a few in the cafe.
I see — it’s worth it to do a diary for Izzy but not for me. That’s okay, I don’t mind; I’m a middle child — I’m used to knowing that no one really cares about me.
(this episode in guilt brought to your courtesy all those wonderful lessons from Mom)
His father was angry about his own childhood or something and no matter what my husband wanted for Christmas he got something else. He wasn’t used to people close to him giving him gifts that he would want. I promised him that as my husband he would get things that he wanted to get, so he’s having a second childhood sort of. How bizarre though to know that if you expressed desire for something you would not get it, he said he used to try to figure out how to manipulate things in a way that he might get something he wanted.
That’s sad but it’s great that you get to make up for it.
I had a very doting aunt who, except for the horse that I desperately wanted, got me pretty much everything I wanted (which was fairly easy because mostly what I wanted was books, books, and more books).
Hi everyone, including Blue RN, Mary, Kansas, Indianadem, CG, and that’s all I can remember but hi and good morning to you all.
I am cold here too in socal…I know it’s nothing like some other elsewhere’s, but it is for me and I am bundled up sitting by the heater, drinking coffee and eating an applefritter.
I wish people would post some snow pics. as I do love to see it, brings back all my east coast memories. I’ve had to resort to searching google to get a good one for wallpaper.
That’s more like it, thanks, sorry I am so late to see this…thanks DADa too, I saw that pic the other day.
Now I would like some scenes of country roads and trees…lol…
Yes and it doesn’t have to be east coast snow, any snow will do. I spent a long time on the weatherbug photos yesterday just to get my fix.
here’s one I took a couple days ago for WW…hope it helps sate your appetite for snow. Got another 4-5″ last night and snow showers continuing today…about 20ºF at the moment. Suspect you’d grow tired of it before may comes along…:{)
My son will like this pic, he is an old truck fanatic. I do too, and thanks Andi too for the pic…great I have copied and saved all of them and I can look…whenever I want.
I wouldn’t mind more if anyone has them.
Hey we should have a snow day diary, with lots of pics. eh.
I don’t know how you work at home. I’ve spent the last hour cleaning my workspace so that I can get started working. At my office I could care less how tidy or clean my desk is. At home … I could procrastinate for hours. But at least my house would be clean.
How do you get ink from something that only exists online? I mean, paper newspapers are a thing of the past, right?
: )
virtual ink is so much easier to wipe off.
We probably need a new word for it.
uhmmm, no? Yes. Maybe?
Why, you remove the “l” from “link,” of course.
Wow. This is far too deep for this early in the morning. I just came in looking for coffee…
Good morning Andi and Rob.
I’m so glad it’s weekend!
Me, too. Workweeks that end of Wednesday are a lot better.
There are just too few of those…
My wife is in her first semester back at school, in a program that is rated #1 in the country. Needless to say, weekeneds end up being me taking care of both kids, cleaning the house, doing laundry, buying groceries, and everything else that neither of us had the opportunity to do during the week.

Good morning all. I would probably still be asleep had not the boran2 boy climbed on me to ask for one of his missing gameboy cartridges.
Hi Andi, ask, boran2 (and anyone else who just snuck in!).

Is it Monday yet?
I’m glad to hear that you have power, CG.
Thanks, b2.It was annoying to get home and still have to wait 2 more hours for it to come back on, but at least it’s back. Apparently, our neighborhood was the only one to lose power at all, so at least they got to it quickly.
Nah, I’m an expert at no power living now. We went to the booktore. 🙂
Luckily, the weather isn’t too cold yet.
I’m cracking up. You mean the stupid Daddy will turn into Stupid Dad?
Crackin’ up.
Hmm…perhaps you’d like to borrow him for some comic relief? 🙂
It’s really a wonder that moms haven’t declared a TGIM to equal the business world’s TGIF.
I spy you. 🙂
Is she being an IndyLurker again? 🙂
Our fav little lurker. I hope she’s well and warm.
Hi kansas! Good to see you here. You too, Indy 😉
Hey, Indianadem! Good to see you, too.
Ooops, hi everybody! I’m housecleaning; I was just stopping by earlier to dispense 4s as quiet greetings. 🙂
You mean not everone looks forward to Monday mornings? 🙂
Gee, you have homework wars at your house too? I thought we were unique 😉
Good morning everybody. Our midwestern indian summer blew away yesterday, but at least the sun is shining.

Or maybe I just haven’t been here when you have.
I guess this is my official cafe delurking. I have my dishes done for the month, and the clothes are in the dryer. Time for a hot bath, with soothing music and lots of candles. And perhaps a book to read if the mood strikes.
You’re probably laughing at all of us lower midwesterners complaining about snow and ice 🙂
Hi Blue Redhead! Welcome to the cafe.
I’m glad Andi and everyone got power because I slept late and then forgot to check to see if there was a cafe. But here it is. Good morning. I’m heading out to Starbucks for coffee.
Did you see the news about the horrid conditions on I-70 last night? Thousands stuck in the cold. Take them some lattes.
lucy-belly? lucy-ears? no-lucy-in-sight?
We got “Where’s Lucy?”
I could have sworn I answered this earlier, but the comment is nowhere in sight. Like Lucy. God only knows where it really ended up.
Off to clean bathrooms. Glam life.
Happy day to all.
I’m back. Yes, I did see that. It looked just horrible.
I thought about buying them lattes but the cost of the helicopter to get the lattes to them was prohibitive 🙂
Hey, Mary – stay warm out there. I here it’s pretty cold. It’s what passes for bitter cold here, too – 39 degrees, on the way up to about 60.
It’s 26 degrees here — but the sun is shining and there’s not much wind so it isn’t too bad.
39 degrees where you are? How can you stand it 🙂
What are your plans this weekend?
Actually, looks like Ms GR and I are headed up to see SallyCat, fabooj, and some others this afternoon, and then to the theater this evening with a friend we made this past political season. Not sure about tomorrow, but I might try to make our pickup baseball game. How about you?
aww, you get to meet fabooj? I wanted to meet her at YearlyKos but never did. Sounds like fun.
I’ve got an organizational project at home that will keep me inside and warm. Going out tonight — probabaly to a movie. Don’t know what yet.
Tomorrow is not planned yet.
Back so soon — what, there weren’t six people in front of you each one with orders that were so increasing complicated that you could see the baristas planning their retirements.

I’m an eternal sucker of the other lane always moves faster.
Isn’t choosing a lane a real life application of game theory? I’m not so good at that game either.
They opened the new Starbucks that’s only 8 blocks away. But I drove because of the ice on the sidewalks still.
People must have been sticking to basics today.
It’s so pretty out with all the ice covering the trees. Too bad it’s so dangerous.
My sister got power back last night though.
as a member in good-standing of the juiced-and-happy-about-it.
But it IS beautiful.
Hmmm — neither will kansas. Separated at birth? (yes I know, it would have been a very long labor)
With all the rain and then the cold, the woods were just full of frost flowers this morning. I’m gonna make knucklehead really jealous.
I liked your hoar frost photo this week.
Maybe I’ll get a digital camera for christmas. That would make things easier. Actually remembering to take the picture is the next hurdle.
Over Thanksgiving I received 2 CDs full of pictures from Italy. I’m still looking at them.
Are you going to going to share the Italy pictures with us? A diary would be nice but having them posted over time in the cafe would be good too.
No diary. My Italian Shoe diary was the most photo diarying I’ll ever do — and wouldn’t have done that if I hadn’t known Izzy would get a kick out of it.
I don’t know. Maybe during the bleak days of winter I’ll post a few in the cafe.

(this episode in guilt brought to your courtesy all those wonderful lessons from Mom)
but guilt only works on me for some topics and photos isn’t one of them.
that guilt ever works on you. Now I’m going to have to conduct some undisclosed experiments to figure out when it does.
Hey, I’ll have you know that I just got upgraded to a cell phone with a camera.
and have you actually used it?
I’m not here, and I never saw that question.
wants mommy or needs mommy. Then I got my husband’s Christmas list….whew 🙂
for birthdays or holidays years ago because making lists was just too much damn trouble.
His father was angry about his own childhood or something and no matter what my husband wanted for Christmas he got something else. He wasn’t used to people close to him giving him gifts that he would want. I promised him that as my husband he would get things that he wanted to get, so he’s having a second childhood sort of. Hi Diane. You want pictures too? sigh. Maybe katiebird will show up and post some pictures. She has more snow than me anyway.
Its not east coast snow, but will it do for now?
That’s more like it, thanks, sorry I am so late to see this…thanks DADa too, I saw that pic the other day.

Here’s one for you.
ah, my favorite Ansel Adamsy picture 🙂
Yeah I’m convinced I was inhabited when I took that picture.
This one’s a bit more Xmas cardish. My brother’s old truck; a relic from the days when trucks had real character 😉
My son will like this pic, he is an old truck fanatic. I do too, and thanks Andi too for the pic…great I have copied and saved all of them and I can look…whenever I want.
I wouldn’t mind more if anyone has them.

Two more from the photofair here and here
I’ve moved left Andi.
I don’t know how you work at home. I’ve spent the last hour cleaning my workspace so that I can get started working. At my office I could care less how tidy or clean my desk is. At home … I could procrastinate for hours. But at least my house would be clean.
I’ve been doing it since 1989 so I’ve had plenty of time to develop my work habits and work space.
I’ve just been doing that, too. I guess we were separated at birth. Poor mom.
Mom always liked you better. Cuz you got all the talent.
Ha. But you’ll support her in her old age.
anybody got a LINK to Omir’s Robo-Rater handy?…seems I’ve lost mine…?????
thanks
