of the Christmas Party Season…but in the spirit of giving, some music that has come to my attention this past week…my apologies if you’ve seen it, but for those who haven’t…here ya go:
First, Eric Mongrain, a phenomonal young guitarist from Montreal: proving, beyond a doubt, that the guitar is a percussive instrument…
That’s wonderful Dada – very evocative of a hammer dulcimer. I’ve heard harps played very percussively as well.
Imogen ordered me two albums by Pink Martini, “Hang on Little Tomato” and “Sympathique,” that only arrived a few days ago. Eclectic isn’t even the half of it.
Somewhere between a 1930s Cuban dance orchestra, a classical chamber music ensemble, a Brasilian marching street band and Japanese film noir is the 12-piece Pink Martini.
Their main vocalist, China Forbes, has an amazing voice.
That last clip needs less Joe Cocker swaying and more Kim Basinger taking her clothes off. ;p
My FRT:
It’s A Good Day – Perry Como
Aganju (The Latin Project Remix) – Bebel Gilberto
Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch – The Temptations
Life of Leisure – Luscious Jackson
Over My Head (Cable Car) – The Fray
Blister in the Sun – Violent Femmes
Sexy M.F. – Prince
Vasoline – Stone Temple Pilots
Heaven Is – Def Leppard
Happy – The Rolling Stones
And I’m outta here, I have to go eat dinner and rest from my trip to Cleveland. Still exhausted. Hope you guys are all well, though! {{hugs to the pond}}
Yeah, I love it when I post something completely obscure that I’m sure no one but me and three other people has heard of . . . and I hear from one of those three other people. 🙂

Great!!!! Today is the coldest day so far this year and as I was driving home I was hearing warnings of snow and sleet for the area tonight. Further south it has already started. Of course if it happens, it will all melt by late tomorrow. LOL How are thing with you?
LOL I buy a lot of charity christmas cd’s every year and when an artist I realy like does one I have to have it. LOL Diana Krall’s christmas songs is fabulous!!!!
I tend to buy stuff that’s a bit “off the beaten path” rather than the latest remix of Bing Crosby or Kenny G or whatever. Just looking at the index to my collection, in and among The Beach Boys and Louis Armstrong I have the Canadian Brass’ first Christmas album, collections of Mexican and German carols, doo-wop, Uillean pipe, bluegrass, cathedral organ, novelty/comedy and of course A Charlie Brown Christmas.
Someday I hope to have a big enough collection to be able to put it on “random” on Thanksgiving and make it through to Christmas with only two or three repeats.
Sorry to about reality causing problems. I hope everyone is alright. I was wondering about your absences. Don’t be stranger. You know we worry when people get quiet.
Hi Froggies!!!!! I don’t have a random 10 tonight because I am loading 150 christmas cds into my computer so I can fill my ipod with holiday music. LOL This is only a small part of my christmas collection. I am sure I will buy more this year. I hope everyone had a fabulous day and that the weekend is even better!!!!!
I finally figured out how to adjust shuffle on Itunes so it’s less likely to play the same album or artist.
1 You’re so Vain Carly Simon
2 Silent House Dixie Chicks
3 Midnight Train to Georgia …. .Gladys Knight and the Pips
4 Free Your Mind — En Vogue
5 My Beautiful Reward — Bruce springsteen
6 Here in my Arms — Ella Fitzgerald
7 South of the Border …. Patsy Cline
8 I’ve got a Crush on You Frank Sinatra/Barbara Streisand
9 Maybe Angels … Sheryl Crow
10 Rocket Man … Elton John
But you know I love dogs better than any other animals so that is a compliment. My plans include lots of house work, redoing one of the design sitres completely and a big christmas party I am attending on Sunday.
LOL I guess I will be doing a lot of begging to get forgiven for that comment above. You know I luv ya like the sister I never had. I buy at least 10 new christmas cd’s a year. LOL
If I’d known I was going to be home tonight I would have invited people over to help me put up my tree. I should do it anyway, but I don’t feel like it. Maybe tomorrow.
It once was my life, Van Morrison
Down to the River to Pray, Alison Krauss
Blame in on Cain, Elvis Costello
Getting Better, the Beatles
Shelter from the Storm, Bob Dylan
Everything I know about the Blues, Delbert McClinton
Walk Away, Renee, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes
Is She Really Going Out With Him?, Joe Jackson
Cisco Kid, War
This Weight, Van Morrison
RF, andi, Knucklehead, and FM, I’ve got your entries into the Booday Backstory Meta-Story roughed out. They will begin to appear in bits and pieces starting tonight. Go to the link and then click on Meta-Story. Mary, yours will be tinkered with to fit.
Anybody else want in? Safest way to let me know is to go to the site and leave a comment.
Errands, dinner, then I’ll see who’s still around.
I noted your comment about putting up your tree to Teach. We don’t have a tree – again – and that’s beginning to look like a unfortunate pattern. We used to go get one every year sometime over Thanksgiving weekend.
His remark to me was that your tree was artificial, e.g. it being not a real tree I couldn’t use it as peer pressure.
Don’t you love having your Christmas tree thought of as peer pressure?
I confess that, the way things are going, I may end up with a no-tree Christmas. But I often think that and there’s only been one Christmas that I didn’t put up a tree.
My cousin used to have a T-shirt with a picture of Vivien Leigh as Scarlett that said “If I don’t find a dress for the party it’s curtains for me.”
It was a Christmas about 5 years ago. I had a lot of things going on in my life and, frankly, was depressed. I just didn’t put one up. I’m sure it was a cry for help 🙂
It was easy to miss — I should’ve put “frankly” in there. BTW, Carol Burnett coming down the stairs with the curtain rod across her shoulders is still the funniest sight gag ever, imo.
It sounds like maybe you should stick with the tree. I didn’t have one last year (my first year ever without) because I hadn’t been feeling that well, my son was away, and my parents have one — those all seemed like good reasons. Now I’m just feeling lazy, but maybe I should nip this thing in the bud before it becomes a bad habit. Still, even the thought of vacuuming the pine needles is enough to put me off. I’m torn.
I’ve added a bit to the Deliveryman section. I didn’t get as much done as I had hoped, because I had had a good idea for working andi, RF, and Knucklehead in to the story. But it took some re-writing. Anyway, you will soon have company.
I’ve got to call it a night, so I can get a tree in the morning.
I have chosen to take the high road and ignore the Ashley Wilkes comment. (What a loser!)

KS pointed out the Famous thing, it’s the Hudson’s – Marshall Field’s thing I guess. To me, Macy’s is NY, Famous is St. Louis, and Strawbridge’s is Philadelphia. And it shouldn’t change.
What’s everybody doing this weekend?
I think instead of sleeping or napping this weekend, I’ll just doze.
tonight?
🙂
I’m off … see ya. 🙂

and last, and surely not least…Joe Cocker: You can leave your hat on…
Enjoy!
I’m outta here
PAAARRRTAY TIME!!!

I do love these music list because I actually know most of the music. I guess it is a good thing I have such eclectic taste. LOL
Yeah, I love it when I post something completely obscure that I’m sure no one but me and three other people has heard of . . . and I hear from one of those three other people. 🙂
LOL You should see the kids at work when I start in on music and they are stunnned at what I listen to. LOL
woo hoo … have a good night guys!

Great!!!! Today is the coldest day so far this year and as I was driving home I was hearing warnings of snow and sleet for the area tonight. Further south it has already started. Of course if it happens, it will all melt by late tomorrow. LOL How are thing with you?
Storm clouds on the home front. I haven’t been on much lately because real life has been intruding far more than I wish it would.
I just did a count of my Christmas CD collection and it looks like I only have maybe 70 or so. And I was feeling pretty proud of myself, too.
Correction: Those are the ones I’ve ripped and have on my computer. Which means they’re the ones I listen to.
LOL I buy a lot of charity christmas cd’s every year and when an artist I realy like does one I have to have it. LOL Diana Krall’s christmas songs is fabulous!!!!

I have quite a starnge collection myself. Everything from jazz, pop, classical, country… you name it.
I am listening to Santa Baby by everclear right now. LOL
Next week we should do random Xmas 10.
Sounds great to me!!!
Sorry real life has been tough. Sending warm thoughts and lots of hugs!!!!
me too Omir!
Thanks, I can use all the warm thoughts and hugs I can get right at the moment. 🙂
That is what friends are for!!! The people here in the pond have gotten me through some tough times even when they didn’t know they were happening.
Warm thoughts and hugs from me too Omir.:)
HI Diane!!!
Hi refinish….I am watching “Polar express”, the Tom Hanks movie and it’s very good, I am transfixed…
I have never seen that one. I am listening to christmas music as I upload cd’s LOL
My warm thoughts would melt all the ice between here and the west coast Omir!

you just called me old … and a dog …
oh well.
big weekend plans refinish?
But you know I love dogs better than any other animals so that is a compliment. My plans include lots of house work, redoing one of the design sitres completely and a big christmas party I am attending on Sunday.
uh, ok.
I thought I was over the top for having about 40 Christmas CD’s. But now I don’t feel so bad.
LOL I guess I will be doing a lot of begging to get forgiven for that comment above. You know I luv ya like the sister I never had. I buy at least 10 new christmas cd’s a year. LOL
I just bought the new Bette Midler Christmas CD today. It was an impulse purchase while I was in the checkout line at Barnes and Noble.
I am planning on getting that this weekend. LOL
I’m listening to it right now and I like it. She’s got a duet with Johnny Mathis on it.
Well, you know I do love me some Bette Midler!!!! Of course I love it when Jewish Diva’s do Christmas cds.
I have barbar streisand’s christmas cd. and love it. I always buy teh diva cd’s as women usually have better voices than most male singers.
If I’d known I was going to be home tonight I would have invited people over to help me put up my tree. I should do it anyway, but I don’t feel like it. Maybe tomorrow.
LOL You have to have eggnog and treats for them if they are helping you decorate the tree.
yeah, that’s why I don’t feel like it. I’d have to go buy treats.
buy treats? Don’t you mean start cooking? LOL
and the “old” part?
ROTFLMAO!!!! Please don’t make this worse for me Teach. I dug a big hole and I am trying my damnedest to get back out of it.
How’s the delivery guy in the basement? I’m so relieved to have him transferred to your basement. It was getting expensive to feed him.
Well, if he is cute, Maybe I will stay in the hole. LOL
I think you will both be surprised where Leon Prignot shows up.
ROTFLMAO!!! of course I have to admit I hve no clue who that is, but I am afraid.
Leon is the deliveryman.
This a a drive-by 10, will be back later.

Great!!!!! I will check it out.
About your Christmas tree: real or notreal?
I have a feeling it is fake if she can keep waiting and if she buys treats instead of cooking. LOL
I don’t understand.
not real
why?
I noted your comment about putting up your tree to Teach. We don’t have a tree – again – and that’s beginning to look like a unfortunate pattern. We used to go get one every year sometime over Thanksgiving weekend.
His remark to me was that your tree was artificial, e.g. it being not a real tree I couldn’t use it as peer pressure.
Don’t you love having your Christmas tree thought of as peer pressure?
LOL!
I don’t want to be in the middle of anything. Although not wanting a tree is sort of … scrooge-like. oops did I say that? 🙂
I can’t remember, Did Scrooge have 8 cats?
I’m sure he did — in those days everybody had mousers didn’t they 🙂
Tomorrow morning we’ll go get a tree. How we’ll get it home in our Toyota Echo is another problem.
Stay turn for next week’s DogBlog. 86 pictures of our cats hanging from the tree, knocking it down, etc.
well, the key is to get a bunch of mice to keep the cats occupied then they won’t pay attention to the tree.
A mouse wouldn’t last two minutes with these cats.
I’m signing off to go work on the story.
It’s hard having two jobs. Particularly when the one you to work on doesn’t pay.
Teach is making this into an unfair fight, sorry I said anything about your tree!
No, don’t be sorry. I’m good at dirty fighting.
I give up. I’m not taking on the two of you.
How Ashley Wilkes of you.
Is it too late for me to jump in and say I’m leaning towards a no-tree Christmas? Or do you not give a damn?
Does whether or not I give a damn matter to you?
I confess that, the way things are going, I may end up with a no-tree Christmas. But I often think that and there’s only been one Christmas that I didn’t put up a tree.
Hey, you’re the one who invoked Gone With the Wind!
What one Christmas was it?
LOL I totally missed the “give a damn reference”.

I don’t do a real tree because I’m a very unreliable water-er. And I don’t want to burn down the house.
So I have an artificial tree.
I don’t mind putting it up and I love having it up but I hate taking it down and putting everything away.
Truly hope this is irrelevant to this year, maryb.
oh, this year it’s just pure laziness. It’s getting myself off my butt and dragging all the stuff up from the basement. Once I start it will be fine.
All this talk of Christmas trees is starting to make me feel guilty, like I should go downstairs and start now.
I don’t believe these holidays have anything to do with guilt, do they?
(‘Course, if that were true I’d have nothing to fear from descending nuts.)
Still Around?
yes?
I’ve added a bit to the Deliveryman section. I didn’t get as much done as I had hoped, because I had had a good idea for working andi, RF, and Knucklehead in to the story. But it took some re-writing. Anyway, you will soon have company.

I have chosen to take the high road and ignore the Ashley Wilkes comment. (What a loser!)
Taking the high road is SUCH an Ashley Wilkes thing to do 🙂
Personally, I always prefer it if the trees want me.
What tree wouldn’t want you?
Offhand, I’d say the palms are definitely hostile — though they’re probably just nervous.
If they’re coconut palms, don’t stand under them 🙂
Thankfully, this is winter & the nuts are all down. It’s just about the only indication of seasonal change I see.
I suppose the rest are staying up north. Har har.
They always provide their own ornaments.

It’s so embarrassing to be the center of attention. Oh, who am I kidding … 🙂
LOL I think we all like being the center of attention. I am probably going to bged shortly since I have been up since 3 am.
