It was a nice day, a little chilly but not bitter. I did Christmas shopping in small spurts of 1/2 hour here and there today and in between came home and put up a Christmas tree. I’m not quite finished, but I’m kind of pooped.
Here at the house I don’t put up a tree. I have a s-i-l who loves to do that stuff. I don’t do any Xmas shopping either. I’ve always felt it’s better to receive than give. š
He said he did fine on the ones he had been graded on. He’s in Florida for the weekend – no, not having fun. Working for his stepfather I think he said.
I told you, you had better watch out. If I was you I would go outside and ask the squirrels very politely if they have it. If that doesn’t work, just dig deeper.
LOL No I did not make it out shopping today. I have been working on one of my design sites all day. Here is a new design I just finished. It is actually a re-do of an old one.
It took many years and creating very bad credit for myself to realize how stupid I was to try credit cards. I am slowly getting thigs back in order or was untill things went goofy this year. LOL
is from iTunes — I highly recommend “A Dave Brubeck Christmas”. Got lots of others, but they’re on the other computer so I’ll have to wait till I move off the damn couch…
We’re finally heading out shortly — hitting Penney’s to pick up a shirt for me and socks for the homeless drop-in center (when it’s wet they really appreciate having clean dry socks for the clients), then dinner at TGI Friday’s (they’ve got some good non-alcoholic drinks IIRC). Been basically taking it slow today — will get back into the swing of things next week…
Thanks!!! Check out the store and tell me if the layout looks better. I concolidated into a few categories and now am redoing descriptions and designs.
No. We decided against it after all. My biggest concern is that we’ll at my m-i-l’s for Christmas. That’s 5 days with 8 wired cats, 6 of whom are young enough to cause real damage. Plus the nice neighbor lady who feeds our cats and cleans the boxes while we’re gone would have to water the tree.
Nah do the belated Xmas thing. The ones you don’t want just put another card on them and tell the people you’re giving them to Fed-Ex was late. Works for me.
Have you ever had a Collins Fruitcake? (That’s a brand of fruitcake, not code for a peculiarly perverse sex act.) KS says they make a delicious fruitcake.
It’s a bit of a drive, I’m afraid. But KS does genealogical research and a branch of her family settled in SW Indiana. She some even intermarried with F’s. She needs to go back on a courthouse and cemetery run. We’ll let you know when she’ll be wandering around nearby.
I bought 3 antique menorahs many years ago when a bf parents announced theyw ere coming for hanukkah. It was one of the years when hanukkah & christmas were at the same time. I took all t5he christmas stuff out of the dining room and redorated it completely. I even had a rabi teach me some of the prayers and give me instructions about kosher kitchens. The last night of hanukkah I gave one of the menorahs to his mother even though she hated my guts. LOL One of the ones I had was a huge one that was silver with lions at the base and the star of David.
I was living in SF at the time and went up to the Russian hill area where the Jewish community center is and went to the antique stores. They always had incredible ones. The rabi also helped me by telling me which stores were the best for finding that type of thing. He thought at first I was converting and then when I explained why I was doing all of it, he was even more helpful. He thought accepting each other’s cultures was important. I guess I was lucky and found a liberal rabi. LOL I know there are quite a few of them but I know that some would never have helped me at all… sort of like the bible thumping preachers we have. LOL
I saw a collection of Judeica at and antique mall a few years back. The silver menorahs were stunning. They where from a time when religious symbols and artistic expression merged. They were also from wealthy families, of course.
Long ago in the land of Judea there was a Syrian king, Antiochus. The king ordered the Jewish people to reject their G-d, their religion, their customs and their beliefs and to worship the Greek gods. There were some who did as they were told, but many refused. One who refused was Judah Maccabee
Judah and his four brothers formed an army and chose as their name the word “Maccabee”, which means hammer. After three years of fighting, the Maccabees were finally successful in driving the Syrians out of Israel and reclaimed the Temple in Jerusalem. The Maccabees wanted to clean the building and to remove the hated Greek symbols and statues. On the 25th day of the month of Kislev, the job was finished and the temple was rededicated
When Judah and his followers finished cleaning the temple, they wanted to light the eternal light, known as the N’er Tamid, which is present in every Jewish house of worship. Once lit, the oil lamp should never be extinguished
Only a tiny jug of oil was found with only enough for a single day. The oil lamp was filled and lit. Then a miracle occurred as the tiny amount of oil stayed lit not for one day, but for eight days
Jews celebrate Chanukah to mark the victory over the Syrians and the rededication of the Jerusalem Temple. The Festival of the Lights, Chanukah, lasts for eight days to commemorate the miracle of the oil. The word Chanukah means “rededication”
I bet your Mom is a hoot!!!! I will say I am lucky that even growing up in a small town in N.C. I was able to experience a lot of different cultures and religions. Also any that were not in town, I was able to learn about if I wanted to. I have always been curious and wanted to know a little about everything.
I just got a call from a friend of mine and he got a really good deal on tickets for fly to FL. He and the family are waiting for the shuttle launch. He called me to check up on the NASA web site to see if anything had changed.
He told me to go outside and check to see if I could see anything. I doubt it, but I’m going to give it a try.
Nope he got tickets for $75 from MI to FL. He has two kids and he wanted them to see it. Plus his sister lives there, so no hotel. He’s always finding great deals for travel. Don’t know how he does it.
New segment of the BooDay Backstory Project is online. It is a first draft, so be kind about my horrible typing. It is called “Patricia” and can be found on the Meta-Story link. RF and KnuckleHead will soon appear. Andi, Second Nature, and FM to follow.
If anyone else wants to join in, just let me know.
Nice clean lounge and there’s Moxie! What’s everybody up to today?
I’ll take my usual 27. I don’t know, make them jello shooters this time.
I guess tonight it’s just me and George. Of course George is more up town than I am, so I guess he have a highfaluting drink.
And thanks for the picture keres.
Hi FM, is it formal tonight?
Only if you want it to be. You know George he always likes his tux.
How are you doing with the weather up there?
It was a nice day, a little chilly but not bitter. I did Christmas shopping in small spurts of 1/2 hour here and there today and in between came home and put up a Christmas tree. I’m not quite finished, but I’m kind of pooped.
Here at the house I don’t put up a tree. I have a s-i-l who loves to do that stuff. I don’t do any Xmas shopping either. I’ve always felt it’s better to receive than give. š
I meant to ask. Did anyone find out how Psi did on his exams?
He said he did fine on the ones he had been graded on. He’s in Florida for the weekend – no, not having fun. Working for his stepfather I think he said.
Geeze he needs to be down in the Bahamas letting off steam and enjoying himself.
We’ll corrupt him sooner or later. š
I was out talking to George and the squirrels yesterday and I told the squirrels what you thought of them Mary. I would be careful if I was you.
LOL! I always KNEW there was a reason they could leap tall trees in one bound. š
I can’t find my Christmas star for the top of the tree š
I told you, you had better watch out. If I was you I would go outside and ask the squirrels very politely if they have it. If that doesn’t work, just dig deeper.
I’ve got to go and start dinner.
Back in a minute.
Evening, pondies! Anybody around or is everybody busy consuming at the nearest mall?
Hi teach!!!!
What’s up, RF? Listening to a new Christmas cd?
LOL No I did not make it out shopping today. I have been working on one of my design sites all day. Here is a new design I just finished. It is actually a re-do of an old one.
SUPPORT THE TROOPS
Nice shirt. Have you tried iTunes for Christmas cds? I haven’t looked, but the must have some on there.
Thank you!! I saw some on there last night but will wait till my bonus comes in before I do any shopping. LOL
Why wait? That is what Amex is for. Buy now and pay in a month, when you’ve got your bonus. Do your patriotic duty and consume!
I do not have any credit cards at all. I have no control. If I can not pay cash, I do not get it.
Good move, then. But the poor banks are going to suffer.
I was in bamking for 13 years. trust me they ain’t suffering at all. LOL
Refinish you are a very very smart man.
It took many years and creating very bad credit for myself to realize how stupid I was to try credit cards. I am slowly getting thigs back in order or was untill things went goofy this year. LOL
I haven’t had them for years either. If you can’t pay for it with cash, you don’t need it.
is from iTunes — I highly recommend “A Dave Brubeck Christmas”. Got lots of others, but they’re on the other computer so I’ll have to wait till I move off the damn couch…

Good shirt Refinish.
Thanks!!! Check out the store and tell me if the layout looks better. I concolidated into a few categories and now am redoing descriptions and designs.
I like it, but I liked the last one too.
well, the seperate web site for the store will be coming back soon but I need to figure out somethings about layout before I try that again. LOL
I’m looking for the star for the top of my tree. I can’t find it š
Did you get a tree today?
The squirrels took it. LOL
Such a reasonable decision … Mr. Scrooge. š
I wonder if Psi’ll show up so we can shift the heat onto him.
He’s in Florida. Although I suppose they have internet connections in Florida and he could show up. WW manages to find us š
They have it in florida but look out for chat rooms if Foley is home for the holidays. LOL Of course, Psi is too old for him.
He’s probably to busy working.
I bet he shows up. He’ll need a break from
the sun and surf, the wet tee-shirt contests, the binge drinking, and anonymous beach sexstudying.Hi Teach.
Been doing your shopping?
Not a thing. Do you think I need to start?
I have not started either but I have cut my christmas list down to 1 person and two dogs. LOL
Nah do the belated Xmas thing. The ones you don’t want just put another card on them and tell the people you’re giving them to Fed-Ex was late. Works for me.
You mean the nasty fruit cakes that could be used to build houses?
You know I’ve never not liked fruit cake. Of course the last one I remember eating was my Grandmothers and everything she ever cooked was good.
My mother makes a cake that is a type of fruitcake that is fabulous. It is called a friendship cake and taste out of this world!!!!
Speaking of menorahs, my mother makes something called a “Jewish Apple Cake” that is very tasty. I think the recipe calls for circumcised apples.
ROTFLMAO!!!!
You are a comic’s dream audience, RF!
I’ve done that so much, I don’t seem to get many presents anymore.
It does have its drawbacks. š
I bet not. If you sent me a claxton fruitcake I would mark you off my list. LOL
Have you ever had a Collins Fruitcake? (That’s a brand of fruitcake, not code for a peculiarly perverse sex act.) KS says they make a delicious fruitcake.
Collins Street Bakery in Corsicana
Never had one, but I will try any type of food once. LOL
I wouldn’t know, but KS is right picky about baked goods.
instead of christmas since it comes first.
So got last year’s wax all cleaned up off the menorah?
Mazel Tov, andi! (I hope I spelled that correctly.)
but what are you congratulating me for?
surviving the cold. LOL
Damn. I meant to exuberantly express a general sense of holiday joy.
in the spirit offered.
We’re having our family celebration next Saturday. You can come over and be exuberant in person. š
Anything traditional?
potato kugel (in place of latkes), beef brisket, corned beef, pastrami, lokshen kugel, and of course, hanukkah gelt.
No Chinese?
only if the first night is on a wednesday
Umm, if you could see and hear me, you’d see a quizzical look on my face, and hear me muttering,”Wednesday? Chinese food? Wednesday?”
ROTFLMAO!!!!
wednesday is the traditional jews go out for chinese night.
OMG, I do love you Andi!!! You remind me so much of these two ladies i use to work with.
that I could bring you the happy reminder of jews eating moo goo gai pan. š
I use to go out for Chineese food with one of them all the time and when you said that I realized we always went on Wednesday. LOL
what time should I be there?
I want to go too. Wait I don’t go anywhere. Andi send care packages.
We have got to figure out some way to get you to travel FamilyMan.
Around 5 will be fine. You can bring extra applesauce.
It’s a bit of a drive, I’m afraid. But KS does genealogical research and a branch of her family settled in SW Indiana. She some even intermarried with F’s. She needs to go back on a courthouse and cemetery run. We’ll let you know when she’ll be wandering around nearby.
My b-i-l did a big research on my family and it’s pretty interesting.
Where in sw indiana?
just for Miss Andi.
Happy Chanukah
I gave my antique menorahs away when I broke up with a boyfriend years ago. LOL
I like the old menorah’s better than the modern one. When I was a kid we had a huge silver one with lions on it.

That sounds almost exactly like the one we had when I was kid.

The modern ones make me think of getting stoned instead of tradition. LOL
Seems like many of the modern ones are so devoid of any symbols remotely Jewish that they look like stripped down candleabras.
and ugly to boot. Some of the modern ones look like building blocks glued together.
I saw a collection of Judeica at and antique mall a few years back. The silver menorahs were stunning. They where from a time when religious symbols and artistic expression merged. They were also from wealthy families, of course.
dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay …
wait — why isn’t everyone singing with me?
The harmony was so close you couldn’t tell it was multiple voices.
I saw a little baby outfit with “Driedel Boy” on it in a shop window today.
Dreidel Babe would have been more appropriate — and unisex
You know it I think it did say Dreidel Baby. All I could picture was this poor, dizzy little kid spinning around on his Huggies.
But seriously folks, are we talking Lions of Judan here?
Long ago in the land of Judea there was a Syrian king, Antiochus. The king ordered the Jewish people to reject their G-d, their religion, their customs and their beliefs and to worship the Greek gods. There were some who did as they were told, but many refused. One who refused was Judah Maccabee

The Maccabee’s , the oil jar. All the Sunday school lessons are coming back to me now.
The reason the oil had to last 8 days was the process took that long to make new that was fitting for the temple.
The Jewish people never seem to have oil.
I think you should come next week to the Hanukkah celebration and tell the story there. My mother will adore you.
LOLO Especially when she learned I was raised Southern Baptist. LOL
wouldn’t phases her a moment — she know that resistance is futile.
I bet your Mom is a hoot!!!! I will say I am lucky that even growing up in a small town in N.C. I was able to experience a lot of different cultures and religions. Also any that were not in town, I was able to learn about if I wanted to. I have always been curious and wanted to know a little about everything.

I opened a new cafe — just thought I’d let you know, although you can keep commenting in this one as long as you want. š
Happy Hanukkah Andi.
It actually doesn’t start until sundown Friday but practice makes perfect.
I just got a call from a friend of mine and he got a really good deal on tickets for fly to FL. He and the family are waiting for the shuttle launch. He called me to check up on the NASA web site to see if anything had changed.

They’re flying to Fl on the space shuttle?
Some people’s life styles are so excessive
Must be a bush supporter if they can afford those tickets. LOL

Patricia? Who’s Patricia?
She’s a honest-to-god fictional character who will help tie the stories together.
I really like the BooDay Backstory Project. You’ve done a really good job on it.
I hope you still feel that way when you read your part.
Oh I will. How many ways can you say extremely handsome, very intelligent and potbellied. š
New cafe here.
