If I’d remember to take my iron tablet more than once a week I might stay awake more than an hour at a time. I keep missing stuff because I’m sleeping. Unless — do you think I’m turning into you?
I do have a big bushy mustache, but wax usually takes care of it. Youch!
Have you seen The 40 Year Old Virgin? Not A 40 year old virgin, but the movie? There’s a scene in there where Steve Carell gets his chest waxed and it starts to bleed. He actually did that – it wasn’t makeup. I had to cover my eyes.
You know, I’m deep into gardening. And really, there is no need to rake up leaves. Especially not in a lawn that size. With all that acreage, don’t you have a riding mower? If so, just run the mower across those crispy things and pulverize them. Great mulch! No raking!
Yep I’ve got a riding mower and one of those leaf catchers you pull behind. I’m just trying to hit the apex of laziness by waiting for all the leaves to fall. 🙂
Leaf catcher? Were you listening? No way! You leave those itty bitty leaf pieces right there where the
FSM intended them to be. Frankly, your neighbor’s land looks like it is in dire need of a little organic matter. You don’t want your lawn to look like that, do you? Over-fertilized and balder with each passing year?
Thanks Andi. I’m trying to figure out how to do a dusk picture of the pond because the moon sets right at the end of the pond. I have to figure out the setting and all. That already sounds like work. 🙁
That looks very much like my back yard. It’s really hard to tell where not to step, if you know what I mean. No one has done poop duty for several days.
Howdy, y’all. Hope everyone’s enjoying a lovely evening. It’s been rather cloudy all day here & I now feel a cool breeze; needless to say, I’m a happy camper.
Love those images up above, FM. What a lovely tree you have as your neighbor!
I’d definitely agree that you should wait ’til all the leaves fall before raking. Take the long view — they just keep fallin’!
Not even at night? Gee. It’s rare that we do completely without a fire in the Kaaterskills ’til we reach August.
(Lest ye wonder why the tropics are my misery.)
In any case, my offer of temporary digs up there is so definite that I’m already receiving instructions on how to negotiate my ally’s driveway. I don’t even have a car yet!
Absolutely, my dear — lest I evaporate completely!
I’ve been assisting Mom after recent widowhood & will spend Christmas with her for the first time in 20 years. Hope to head home soon after New Year’s & breathe again, get my own thing back on track.
‘Course, I don’t like to count my chickens, but I can’t see any other direction but northward ASAP.
🙂
I thank you for all good wishes & positive feeling.
Bonus: I’ll likely be back OL rather quickly after return — armed with my trusty little camera in a brand new location. No more leaky trailer!
Can’t wait to get my hands on my camera again, really. Bonus: the place where I’ll (probably) be staying has a beautiful view of the mountains, much different than the ones I’ve shared before, much wider.
I’ve gotten pix from that homestead of my boy-kitty today. He’s apparently wider, too.
What a great name!
I think ‘tortellini’ would be good, too.
😉
My kitties’ names tend to change as they age & develop. I once recalled all the names I’d given my eldest cat & came up with at least 16 — just about a new one per year.
This past summer my current boy-toy was still rather svelte — basically lived outdoors in daytime, running about like a lunatic for hours on end. Now he lives indoors, ergo his new shape. We’ll sure change that as soon as we can!
You know it! & no more 6 other cats, like the farmhouse he’s at now.
We’ll just see if we can scare up his mom — she’s on the loose in the woods up there, unfortunately.
Then again, maybe there will be 6 others..
Ah well, there’s nothing to be done ’til I’m back in my element.
Time for me to crash, as I threatened downthread. Have an enjoyable night, Miss O! Thanks again for so many good wishes.
I think I was back there in the late 80`s. I`ve got a few things up in the air right now, but I might be back for a meeting of the minds within the next two years. One of my brothers who`s in “international affairs” will be coming back to North America within a year, so I think that will be the deciding factor.
Thank you both very much! We’ll see how it goes — but positive vibrations can only smooth the way.
I can only hope the weather here is relatively merciful ’til I’m on my way! Lord almighty, humans certainly weren’t intended to live here after they paved the swamps.
I’m currently reading Joan Didion’s Miami. It’s very informative — & offers a bit of clarification as to why I’m instinctively averse to this area, beyond the infernal weather. It’s the ‘heart of darkness’ indeed, dada (as you’ve aptly put it before).
Fully understood, dada. The most comfortable southern locale for me has been Asheville, NC & environs, a relatively progressive community; I spent about 7 years there, off & on — but ultimately had to return to New York, without question.
It was falling victim to its own hype by then, in any case. As so many places have.
I should say that Asheville was my home base for most of seven years, aside of a year in NY.
As progressive as the town prided itself on being, it was still deeply segregated; ‘people of color’ were generally invisible. Ergo the ultimate realization that it couldn’t be ‘home’; it was too self-contradictory.
about that negative vibe: indeed, indeed. For me, it’s a sense that the apparent veils a continual violence, much as the infrastructure rests on thin earth.
It’s making me ill, frankly, in many senses. As I say, the northward return is super-crucial.
(As I’m now starting to blabber, it’s probably bedtime!)
So a guy walks into a bar and starts talking about something completely different.
First off, hey to all the night owls on EST.
I heard an interesting show on BBC4 tonight. It’s a show I listen to regularly called “In Our Time.” It’s an discussion among three guests and the host about selected topics of intellectual history. Sounds boring, but there you have it. I enjoy it most weeks. (For another opinion, Kidspeak refers to it as my “English Twit” show and requests that I listen to it with earphones when she’s in the room.)
Anyhow, this week’s show was about Anarchism. Here’s the link. Give it try if you like. The site also has a link to the show’s archives.
How is everybody doing?
Hi SN. How’s it going for you today?
If I’d remember to take my iron tablet more than once a week I might stay awake more than an hour at a time. I keep missing stuff because I’m sleeping. Unless — do you think I’m turning into you?
One way to find out. Look into the mirror and if you have a big bushy mustache, then there’s a good chance you are. Otherwise, I wouldn’t worry. 🙂
Iron won’t help her with the bushy mustache. Sounds like a hormone therapy is in order.
Are we talking hormone thearpy for SN to grow a mustache?
I do have a big bushy mustache, but wax usually takes care of it. Youch!
Have you seen The 40 Year Old Virgin? Not A 40 year old virgin, but the movie? There’s a scene in there where Steve Carell gets his chest waxed and it starts to bleed. He actually did that – it wasn’t makeup. I had to cover my eyes.
I’m being Happy that Monday is almost over.
And just think once Monday is over, you get to look forward to Tuesday. Oh the joy of working. 🙂
I don’t have Tuesday to look forward to – it’s here.
Lounge time already? I’m glad this place is casual cuz I’m still in my pj’s.
Morning all.
Morning keres.
There’s something to be said for drinking in your PJ’s, but what it is, I’m not sure.
Hi, you all. I am NOT ready to have Monday over with. Now, having a week from Monday, that would be good.
Hi KS. A week from Monday would be good too. 🙂
I was outside with George and saw all the leaves I have to get up somehow. Here’s my yard.
Here’s my neighbors yard and mine. You can sort of tell whose yard is whose.
And finally a picture of the pond.
Right click on all images and hit view pictures to enlarge.
You know, I’m deep into gardening. And really, there is no need to rake up leaves. Especially not in a lawn that size. With all that acreage, don’t you have a riding mower? If so, just run the mower across those crispy things and pulverize them. Great mulch! No raking!

I like the sound of that. I’m leaving the leaves there as a natural fertilizer.
Now what’s your outlook on dirty clothes. 🙂
The leaves look nice. I like them.
Anything that has to do with not doing lawn work, I like too. 🙂
It’s a really pretty picture of the pond, too.
Thanks Andi. I’m trying to figure out how to do a dusk picture of the pond because the moon sets right at the end of the pond. I have to figure out the setting and all. That already sounds like work. 🙁
Mine has a setting in the “scene” mode called dusk/dawn that works pretty well. Or just set it on auto and disable the flash and use a tripod.
I think I’ll give that a try tonight. When I took George out last night, I was thinking how pretty it was.
That looks very much like my back yard. It’s really hard to tell where not to step, if you know what I mean. No one has done poop duty for several days.
Yes but it’s still better than being in the house. 😉
I am rearranging my house. And no, it is not fun.
But it’ll be cool when you’re done – just like a new house!
Rearranging the house is never fun. I’ve got a sister that moves her living room around at least once a month. Don’t see how she does it.
Is her husband blind? Because that’s just mean if he is. 🙂
Nope but the poor guy does the majority of the moving. I think that’s one reason they put in wood floors awhile back. Easier to slide stuff. 🙂
I like my house unarranged but I probably wouldn’t object to a do-over for my some chunks of my life.
George is whinning to go out again.
Back in a minute.
I guess we know who the people come to see here. Family Man leaves and the place clears out in a hurry. 🙂
to make and eat dinner and when I came back the joint was empty. Could be we’re back on the 30 minute cycle.
I beat your 30 minutes by 24 minutes. Hah!
What did you have for dinner?
You were too fast — you threw the whole cycle off.
Pasta salad with grilled tuna.
that sounds good Andi 🙂
Did you get any pictures of the roses?
I just uploaded them and I’m looking now … 🙂
I should be expecting some email pretty soon, eh?
I’m trying to select one now … so if it’s not there before you go to bed, it’ll be there in the morning. 🙂
I’ll won’t bother you so you can concentrate.
I’m even watching tv … 😉
Howdy, y’all. Hope everyone’s enjoying a lovely evening. It’s been rather cloudy all day here & I now feel a cool breeze; needless to say, I’m a happy camper.
Love those images up above, FM. What a lovely tree you have as your neighbor!

🙂
How lovely to bump into you this eveing. 🙂
Absolutely likewise, Miss O! How goes it?
Happy to hear you are experiencing the gentle breeze. 🙂
There’s generally a breeze here in the evening, but it’s usually got the approximate temperature of dog’s breath. Tonight it’s a bit more refreshing.
So you’ve kicked out your infections all the way & can now function optimally?
how about you?
I’m doin’ ok, thank you — though I’m obviously a bit slow on the comment uptake.
🙂
sometimes it’s hard to keep up w/ the comment whirlwind … but it looks as though it’s winding down. 🙂
Glad the weather has cooled off, relatively speaking. It’s warm enough here that we let the stove go out.
Glad to hear it, Andi! This means you’re seeing those 50s temperatures, no?
I’ve always enjoyed the realization that I don’t need a daytime fire any more — ’round about Memorial Day.
Yep, 50s — very pleasant. I’m happy to say that we rarely use the stove after early march.
and the dishes are done too … 🙂
that’s really nice — I hadn’t seen one before and it was not at all what I expecting.
I just finished the dishes too and now that I’ve got your flower, I’m heading off to bed.
Night.
who’s still up?
Not even at night? Gee. It’s rare that we do completely without a fire in the Kaaterskills ’til we reach August.
(Lest ye wonder why the tropics are my misery.)
In any case, my offer of temporary digs up there is so definite that I’m already receiving instructions on how to negotiate my ally’s driveway. I don’t even have a car yet!
We have a really well insulated house so it keep the daytime heat in.
I’m glad to hear that the move home is looking good.
And now this geezer is really heading off to bed.
Night.
Have a good night, Andi!
I’m soon to be joinin’ the Pond-Geezer Bedtime Society myself, I’m afraid.
this is good news! you’re returning to the wilderness?
Absolutely, my dear — lest I evaporate completely!
I’ve been assisting Mom after recent widowhood & will spend Christmas with her for the first time in 20 years. Hope to head home soon after New Year’s & breathe again, get my own thing back on track.

🙂
I thank you for all good wishes & positive feeling.
Bonus: I’ll likely be back OL rather quickly after return — armed with my trusty little camera in a brand new location. No more leaky trailer!
having you share your wonderful vista w/ us again … 🙂
Can’t wait to get my hands on my camera again, really. Bonus: the place where I’ll (probably) be staying has a beautiful view of the mountains, much different than the ones I’ve shared before, much wider.
I’ve gotten pix from that homestead of my boy-kitty today. He’s apparently wider, too.
🙂
more of him to love, and all that right … 😉
I named my little guy Noods — short for Noodle b/c he was super skinny when he was younger … but now he’s older and more like a tortellini … 🙂
I’m sure he’s looking forward to an outdoor existence as much as his mistress … 😉

Sleep well and pleasant dreams!
Hi O, Andi, FM, if he’s still around…but we need to talk ’bout those chitlin’s man…
wuzup
How are you fairing tonight — any breezes out your way?
fairly calm now…but more forecast for tomorrow…chinooks are starting early, it would appear
how’s the ice capitol of the world…aka O-town doin’?
We may get a bit of sun tomorrow …
Wanna see the lights on parliament hill?
web cam … kinda blurry tho 🙂
Cool cam Olivia. I went traveling on it for a bit. Old haunts, ya know.
I`ve been to every camsite listed except the Yukon, if there is one.
How are you doing tonight?
Do you ever get back this way to visit?
I think I was back there in the late 80`s. I`ve got a few things up in the air right now, but I might be back for a meeting of the minds within the next two years. One of my brothers who`s in “international affairs” will be coming back to North America within a year, so I think that will be the deciding factor.
we don’t need to talk about chitlins — ever.
the latest Mundane Missive…and I totally agree, w/ your assessment
gaaaaaaaaaaa!
and that’s why I don’t want to talk about ’em — it’ll make it all the sooner that I can forget I’ve seen ’em.
Good to see you. I seem to be missing you here lately.
we seem to operate on diff schedules
good news on the poss of a return to your homeland I see…hope it works out!
Thank you! I do believe it’s crucial that I do. I’m shrivelin’ like a woodland flower in a metal ashtray.
just aren’t made for the tropics
nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to stay
hope this all comes together smoothly for you. be sending pos thoughts in your direction
Thank you both very much! We’ll see how it goes — but positive vibrations can only smooth the way.
I can only hope the weather here is relatively merciful ’til I’m on my way! Lord almighty, humans certainly weren’t intended to live here after they paved the swamps.

but the few times I’ve been in Miami, I’ve gotten a real negative vibe….it’s a very strange place from my perspective
I have a lot of problems w/ comfort levels pretty much anywhere in the south tho…not just climate wise
Fully understood, dada. The most comfortable southern locale for me has been Asheville, NC & environs, a relatively progressive community; I spent about 7 years there, off & on — but ultimately had to return to New York, without question.

unfortunately, the south has never recovered from the civil war, imo.
might never do, given the direction of things.
Omir rec’d a very interesting book today about the divisions in the US…that it’s 9 + – very distinct cultures/sub-cultures/nations
can’t loc the link, but I think I’ll search it out and ck out a copy.
I’ll see if I can’t scout out that comment, likewise. Sounds like a good read.
Everything ok by you? Sorry I’ve neglected to ask. I’ve become such a nasty ol’ curmudgeon.
about that negative vibe: indeed, indeed. For me, it’s a sense that the apparent veils a continual violence, much as the infrastructure rests on thin earth.
It’s making me ill, frankly, in many senses. As I say, the northward return is super-crucial.
(As I’m now starting to blabber, it’s probably bedtime!)
for a restful sleep, pleasant dreams, and a quick return to your wilderness
be well
peace and blessings
Thanks, dada. I return your blessings, as you know.
So a guy walks into a bar and starts talking about something completely different.

Hey, Teach — sorry to catch you on the way out. (I should’ve picked The Long Goodbye as my UID.)
I’ve heard the show before, some time long, long ago. Rather enjoyed it myself.
Ah well, I’d best get to bed (she repeated). Hope to see you soon.
Night, WW.
