May the 4’s be with you
Sorry I’m late…I’ve had a houseful of sick people and been Christmas shopping to boot!
Whatcha’ all doing?
waitin for you and getting ready for a Holiday Party. Did you finish your shopping?
We’re doing one family thing tomorrow, so we finished shopping for that today.
I’m still working on the rest, though. And it’s hard this year. The boys keep changing their minds about what they want. How about you? Are you all done?
No, I have a few more to get. The hard ones. But I’m finished with most. There’s a little spice shop near my house and I discovered that they put together gift boxes — and they’ll do it to a theme so you can specify, for instance spices for Mexican cooking or Thai cooking. So lots of people are getting gift boxes of spices. I was pretty excited when I came up with that idea.
I’m almost done shopping since it’s mainly for my little in-town family here and we scaled way back from previous years. But I’m trying to figure out how and when to wrap them with 2 cats and a dog.
Well, not actually with the cats and the dog.
So you’re going to a War on Christmas Party?
Better a War-on than a Moron…Christmas party, that is.
Happy Hannukah! The sun has set. Start partying.
Yes, it’s a war on Christmas party. But it’s also a War on Hannukah party.
I’m already familiar with the War on Hanukkah — it’s when all that’s left on the 8th day are pencils with your name on them.
Woo hoo!
Happy Chanukah Menorah
Very stylish — I think I like this one even better than this morning’s.
Thank you!!!!
Get any nice cloud shots this week?
I’m in a slump … must be all the rain … and today I was looking at my climbing hydrangea — Andi, it’s budding and growing new green leaves b/c it’s so warm here. I’m worried my plants are going to be in for a supreme shock and will end up dying.
I have absolutely no gardening advice but based on the Xmas rose, I’d say indoor flowers are a very decent substitute.
(I counted up my “postable” frost flower pics today and it looks like I’ve got 4, maybe five more fridays worth.)
I’ve found indoor flowers die just as fast as outdoor flower on me. The only difference is I can see he indoor ones dying and occasionally see the outdoor one going down. I prefer outdoor dead flowers myself. π
I can`t wait to see some more of those “frost flowers”. They`re pretty amazing. Some of the examples I found on last month`s link, were very strange, as if they were extruded from the pores of the wood they formed from.
I’m posting them in the friday morning cafes (there’s one this morning and one last week if you didn’t see them).

Aren’t those the Chosen Surfers?
Of course they are!
Brilliant. They rock!
Gosh, that’s making me hungry. I haven’t eaten since breakfast.
If you save some room you can come to our Hanukkah gathering tomorrow and have pastrami and potato kugel (a replacement for potato latkes without as much fat and endless hours over the stove).
Sounds delish. Is it at your place?
Anyway, there are way too many people for anybody’s place. We rent a clubhouse up in Indy and have it there.
Make sure you arrive late and park behind everyone else so you don’t get boxed in.
There goes the cholesterol level.

Blues show, it’s HERE 3 hrs. mp3…click the listen icon to hear the whole program…operator errors, distractions, equipment fu*k ups, busted segues, cold impaired raspy voice, in all its live radio glory…it was a ‘bitch’ of a show…but I’m shameless.
Enjoy!
Later
That blues show is a Saturday night staple around here.
it’s time for the first of Omir’s two Christmas Random Tens! (Sadly, I don’t have any Chanukah music in my collection, and only one klezmer CD.)
Do You Hear What I Hear? – The Roches
Christmas In July – Brave Combo
Little St. Nick – The Beach Boys
Hark The Herald Angels Sing – Eric Rigler
Poli’ahu: The Snow Goddess of Mauna Kea – Keola Beamer
Donde vas Zagala Hermosa – Coro de la Catedral de Mexico
Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy – Rochester Pops
Frosty the Snowman – Canadian Brass
O Come All Ye Faithful – Chet Atkins
Blue Christmas – Elvis Presley
I have the Canadian Brass doing “Dreydl”, and two different versions of Adam Sandler’s “Chanukah Song”…that’s about it for my Chanukah collection, sorry to say.
I’ll save the Christmas Random for next week…
I’ve got something like 1000 Christmas MP3s in my collection. I think I can come up with two Random 10 lists. π
I don’t have any Adam Sandler that I can think of, although I might like to get a copy of “Ode To My Car” if I can ever find it. It’s pretty bleeping funny.
Come to think of it, are there any novelty Chanukah songs other than The Chanukah Song? I’ll have to go look through The Mad Music Archive’s collection of Doctor Demento playlists. They’ll show up there if they’ll show up anywhere.
Omir you have 1000 Xmas songs? I didn’t know there were that many made.
Yeah, and I feel like a piker. Someone — refinish, I think — was telling me they had about three times that many.
but if you want to play it really loose, you could throw in Weird Al Yankovic’s “Pretty Fly for a Rabbi”…
LOL . . . I was thinking about that one. There are plenty of Jewish novelties — Two Live Jew, for instance, and some of Allen Sherman’s stuff — but again, not much for Chanukah. Doctor D has some songs with titles like “Hanukkah Homeboy” and “Hanukkah Rocks” but they didn’t make much of an impression on me (or at least not as much as Adam Sandler’s Chanukah Song did, I suppose).
Andi, I wish you & your family a very, very happy Chanukah (going with Omir’s spelling). May you all enjoy every moment of the celebration!
Similarly, I wish a wonderful holiday to all those of the Jewish faith who may be lurking/de-lurking. Enjoy!
1. Oh Little Town of bethlehem – Emmy Lou Harris
2.Joy To The World – The Supremes
3.Let It Snow -Diana Krall
8.Hark The Herald Angels Sing – Mariah Carey
I hope everyone had a great day!!!! We had our holiday party for the team at work today and the food was great and my secret Santa got me two beautiful teddy bears.
Okay, here is my mini rant. I have a Holiday party tonight for the Democratic Party for my county. I stopped by there on the way home as I was not sure what time it started. The party is in a bar that can only be described as a funking dump!!! If we are planning on being a winning party, we actually have to start acting like one. I would not go to bar like the one tonight to take use the bathroom much less for a party.
I do want to Wish Anid and her loved ones and any others of the Jewish faith a love filled first night of Hannakah!!! May the joy, love and happiness of the seaon help you redidicate your life to your faith and your passions.
I can well understand your frustration, refinish.
‘Course, if you were in NYC I’d say that funking dump is most likely the latest, hottest hangout for the glitterati, since the neighborhood is on the verge of gentrification. Ergo, the dump would be an excellent choice.
However, since you’re not in that type of bizarre & I know you’re of excellent taste, the choice is mystifying. Are there bar-dancers too?
No!!!! It is a local dive where men who just got off work are drinking their weeks pay up before going home. I am sure that over half the precinct chairs will not be there because of the type of place it is. Trendy bars and new joints I can handle. This is a dive!!!! The best way to describe it is think of a lower class bar where dreams have been smashed to hell and have no chance of being resurected. The highschool football star who is now fat and bald is reliving his glory years while the former head cheerleader who has lost her teeth( from her husband hitting her) is still flirting as if her tits hadn’t sagged to the floor after the 5th child.
On that horrible note, I am leaving to make an appearance at the party and I am sure I will be home soon!!!!
Well, here’s to you & your admirable sense of commitment! Be sure to bring a handkerchief dotted with fragrance. Iirc, these places smell the way they feel.
there are a million stories in the naked city, and half of them are in that place — that sounds like a writer’s dream… π
Good luck and have a good (or at least tolerable) time…
RF!! You’ve got all the lyrics right there, for a best-selling hit C & W song!! You’re a genius – (except, of course, for the tits comments, not the best idea).
RF, you have brought out the worst(?) in me:
Verse 3 & 4:
ROTFLMAO!!!!!! I Love IT!!!!!!
A little late…
Bad Religion – Turn On The Light
Streetlight Manifesto – That’ll Be The Day
Reggie & The Full Effect – Better For You
NoFX – Don’t Call Me White
Staind – Warm Safe Place
Iron Maiden – Where Eagles Dare
Bad Religion – Struck A Nerve
Meiko Kaji – Urami Bushi
Sonata Arctica – Mary Lou
Billy Joel – All For Leyna
That looks like quite a nice collection, Psi.
How are you?
I’m a little tired (got 7 combined hours of sleep yesterday – 3 after crashing, 4 at night), but I feel a bit relaxed. Just been learning a lot of stuff about my new position at the bank. π Yourself?
Hi Psi and WW.
Psi 7 hours of sleep at your age should get you through the week. My God what’s happened to he youth of he world. π
I got 1 hour of sleep Tuesday night/Wednesday morning, the night before a final exam…even that’s difficult for me to handle!
Yep just as I thought. Todays youth is I want, I want, I want. I guess you wanted at least a good 8 hours sleep before the test. What ever happened to doing shooters studying all night and going to the test. Oh wait. I think that the reason I didn’t finish college.
Actually Psi if no one has old you this, I’m pretty proud of you. With all your college, work and politicking you have a more than full load. Good for you!
Thanks…although it ain’t much to be proud of. I’m sure my grades suffered a bit this semester because of all the other things I was doing. Oh well, such is life.
Hey look buddy, I’m looking to one day saying I know that CEO that just made 100 million in stocks. If you need a tutor let me know. Do you study well in bars? π
Mr. PF is a perfectionist.
Slow down, Young One.
Your right SN. I should have know better. But the studying in the bar still stands. π
How much studying can you get done slurping jello shots off of some young thang’s belly?
A lot if the crip notes are written on her stomach. π
Never thought of it that way. You can tell I never went to college.
I just wanted to quell you’re worrying that I would get boxed in tomorrow since it doesn’t matter because I go early to help Mom (that is, to stop here from driving herself crazy worrying about nothing) and stay until everybody leaves and clean up. It’s my one ‘be a good daughter’ event of the year.
Care packages Andi, we do take care packages. π
I don’t think pastrami travel well.
vacuum sealed and packed in dry ice.
Heck Andi you saw on my b what we eat down here. A little aged meat don’t matter. π
Having seen what you folks eat down there, I know that sending you good pastrami would be a waste. π
Now Andi you should know we waste nothing. I mean I can go into a local store around here and get pickeled pigs feet or snouts. My goodness you northerners are so picky. π
Feel free to eat whatever you like. Just don’t post photos of it, PLEASE!
Just for you SN I won’t post anymore picture of southern food.
However, there are many foods around the country that most wouldn’t eat. What does Ohio have?
That makes for a very long day. But I guess if it’s just once a year you can suck it up.
How does leftover kugel travel?
what leftover kugel?
my grandma used to make noodle kugel. I loved it, and just saying it made me happy.
I love noodle kugel but it’s even worse (cholesterol wise) than potato kugel. Did she make sweet kugel with raisins and cinnamon?
Yep, she did. But I liked her rice pudding even better. I make it for dinner when it’s just the kids and me.
I’m not too big on rice pudding but then again I don’t think I’ve ever had rice pudding that wasn’t in a cafeteria so I probably haven’t had the real deal.
Yeah, I am a perfectionist. Sometimes, it makes life a little difficult. π
How did i guess?
Psi I see nothing wrong with being a perfectionist. But I’ve always believed moderation is the key. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve never been a moderte person, but that what I’ve strived to be.
I look at it that if every single day of your life you want to go for perfection, then go for it. If every single day of you life you want to slack, then do it. However, in that one life you have, make yourself and the ones you love happy. Sometimes finding that is the hardest thing you can do.
You’re being very sentimental. Are you dying?
Far from it I hope. Just been thinking of times past.
Are you going to see the girls over Christmas?
Nope. I’ve sent some em and I’m just waiting for replies.
Sorry to hear that. I’m suffering from a shortage of daughters myself, but I have a couple of spare sons I can send you.
Do they like to do lawn work?
Less than you do. But they’re funny and they do impressions.
Beautifully said, FM. Very inspired.
Thank you WW. Sometimes I’m am profound. π
Naturally. Magical individuals generally are.
π
WW you are one of the most magical people I’ve ever know. If weather wisdom could make your home in the wilderness a reality, it would be yours.
What a gracious thing to say! Thank you & bless your heart, FM.
I sincerely hope we’ll share that stroll through the snow soon after that.
WW there is nothing more than a stroll through the snow with you that I would love more. Do you know what Gluwine (sp) is? Some of my happiest memories were in Germany during winter volksmarching in the snow and stopping for gluewine. I think that would be a wonderful thing.
I’ll certainly have to look it up & check it out! Unfortunately, my only knowledge of Germany is genetic.
π
Thanks again for sharing lovely thoughts, FM.
No matter. I think the snow walk would be nice. WW I really do hope you can get back home to where you love and have the life you want. To tell you the truth you know where I’ve always wanted to life. Alaska. Even when I was in high school I wanted to live up there. Now I’m at the age where it’s a dream, but I still would.
You’re a dutiful son to take care of FMom – but after that…ALASKA!
SN you are one most wonderful people I’ve ever known. To hope that someone’s wish come true is a wonderful thing.
(((fm)))
Psi, I not messing around here. We all fail. It’s a sad fact of human nature that we all fail. I worry about driven young people. How will they deal with the inevitable failures of life? I have no answer for this question because you will have to find your own.
Now, let’s party!
I always seem to be called from the monitor after I’ve said hello to you, Psi. Apologies.
I’m well, thanks. Glad to see you’re chillin’ out (or whatever you kids say these days) & you’ve gotten a little more rest.
Klezmania – Oystralia
Kinky Friedman – They Ain’t Makin’ Jews Like Jesus Anymore
Kitka – Ma Navu
Alex Dobkin – Jovanno
Barbra Strisand – A Sleeping Bee
Bette Midler – Do You Want To Dance?
Ethel (Zim)Merman – There’s No Business Like Show Busness
David Lee Roth – Just A Gigolo
Mel Torme – What is This Thing Called Love?
Neil Diamond – Cracklin’ Rosie
OMG – Ethel (Zim)Merman and Mel Torme? Are you my mother?
No. But I do like both Merman and Torme in extremely small doses. I have Merman’s Anything you can do, I can do better duet with Miss Piggy, and it’s a hoot. And who could resist an occassional flirtation with “The Velvet Fog.”
My mother, had more of an Engelbert Humperdink/Roger Whittacker thing happening when I was growing up. I think I got the worst deal of we two. π
was seeing Mel Torme and George Shearing together at the Mountain Winery in Saratoga…it was one of his family’s traditions, and totally unexpected since he’s usually such a big rock fan. Delightful time…

That last song brings back memories of working overtime doing order entry back in the 1980’s… π
About to settle in and watch “Countdown” (say, where did Iowa Victory Gardener disappear to?), then head out for dinner and holiday light viewing… π
I’m looking forward to IVG’s return, myself. Hope it won’t be long.
Sounds like you’re in for a very pleasant evening, Cali (though images of Bush et al do tend to mitigate an evening’s pleasure, imho). Did you happen to keep the black-suited lockstep? Rather chilling.
In any case, there’s positive news on Senator Johnson, also.
Evening, Folks! Happy Chanukah to those who incline that way. To those who splintered off and joined the Judean, why aren’t you to celebrating your holidays by laying your credit cards on the mercantile altars at the local malls?
Have I mentioned that I’m a bit drunk on cough syrup? And there was a lot to read. I mean you folks wrote a lot.
there won’t be a lot to read because we won’t write a lot?
<Burroughsian snarl>
Hope you got the good stuff, Teach.
</Burroughsian snarl>
My credit card actually caught fire, so I had to stop using it.
and buy myself some underwear…but I paid cash…
When I was a kid, there were some tight years. I remember underwear and socks as presents on Christmas. I wasn’t happy. I got it trouble when I went over my friends house. They had really cashed it. They kept bugging about what I got. I didn’t want to tell them. Finally, I got fed up and decided to show them. Their mother walked in with the hot chocolate as I was mooning them in my new underwear.
We always got underwear and socks too, and a new hat and gloves, and, just for fun, crayons.
in case you all would like a nice clean place to trash.
