Andi, you’re the best. Thanks so much for sharing this image with me! My holiday’s now complete. Such a beautiful spot — I could wish for nothing better for myself. You folks are truly, incredibly fortunate (as we know already).
This is obviously last year, no?
Hey — if it comes with images I wouldn’t mind a bit.
You’re quite wonderful about sharing.
Speaking of last winter, here’s a reprise of my holiday greeting to the cafe’ (which you might’ve missed, iirc): the view from the freezer on Christmas Day, 2005. Last year’s snowfall was relatively light, too.
Thanks again for good wishes, Andi. You know they bolster me terrifically.
I’m actually tightening up travel plans currently, looking at January’s new moon. This gives me time to work out all the logistics. I may not make it to the old field — due to the circumstances of my departure vis-a-vis the landlords — but the mountains are big.
😉
Heading out to dinner with the diva now, will check in later if possible. See y’all later.
We definitely didn’t have those birds shit on your old landlord nearly enough. And it seems like it is a very good thing that the mountains are big enough that you only have to see what and who you want to see.
… or old tunes in a new format. How about a holiday random set of indeterminate number?
Here’s a set to start off.
Pretty Little Stranger / Joan Osborne / Pretty Little Stranger
Dead Roses / Joan Osborne / Pretty Little Stranger
Easy / Barenaked Ladies / Barenaked Ladies Are Me
Rule The World With Love / Barenaked Ladies / Barenaked Ladies Are Me
Hard To Thrill / J.J. Cale & Eric Clapton / The Road To Escondido
Don’t Cry Sister / J.J. Cale & Eric Clapton / The Road To Escondido
It’s Easy / J.J. Cale & Eric Clapton / The Road To Escondido
Please Don’t Tell Me How The Story Ends / Joan Osborne / Pretty Little Stranger
Sweet Baby James / James Taylor / Sweet Baby James
Merry Christmas, Jim! Good to see you. Hope you’ve enjoyed your holiday so far.
That’s a very nice set. I’ve been thinking of the opening verse from the final tune for a little while now, as a matter of visualization: .. the first of December was covered with snow ..
That CD got on ourI holiday wish list because I saw the Dixie Chicks and James Taylor perform it on YouTube. It took about an hour to download on dialup. Then I realized two things; I really needed that in CD, since I don’t listen to vinyl anymore, and I need to listen to more Dixie Chicks. Taking the Long Way is a great album.
I haven’t heard much of the Dixie Chicks’ music myself, alas — as my new acquisitions in recent years have actually been restricted to vinyl and/or friends’ charity (which tends toward the obscure).
I am still at work and am on my lunch break. Usually I have left for home at this time. LOL I am working till 9 pm and then have to be back here at 7 am in the morning. I keep thing…double time and a half to keep from going crazy. LOL
It’s been wet and chilly all day here in KY. I thought I’d grab a few minutes and check in before I had to go back out to the Christmasy things. What’s everybody up to?
The 8th is a records day and the 9th is when the kids return. Any day without kids in the building that the principal can’t call a meeting is almost a day of vacation except it is productive.
The second is a Professional Development Day for us, which means that the Principal will get her licks in for the beating she took on Friday. I’m not sure if you saw what I wrote about, but I posted the details in the happy hour lounge last Friday.
There were 36 of us this year, with all the family except seven that couldn’t show up. I got pictures of the inside of the farm house, but have to see how they turned out. I’m pooped!
Smoked, roasted, and fried turkey, 2 different hams, casseroles, potato salad, 6 different cakes and that doesn’t even start counting the munching stuff set out before we ate. I think this was the most food at a holiday get together we’ve had so far.
I’ve been out for a couple of days. How has you’re Xmas been?
SN there was so much I forgot to mention 2 different type of dressings and I don’t know what I forgot. I did good though I limited myself to only one really full plate and then two pieces of cake.
It was funny watching the smallest greatnieces (2, 3, & 3 1/2) and the middle nieces and nephew (12 & 14) who I can remember at those ages. That’s half the fun of the get togethers to me is seeing all the kids.
For a while there, yes. With 7 girls in their twenties and early thirties that sort of happens. And my brother had 3 during that time. Not physically of course.
OMG That sounds wonderful!!!!! I think the Christmas Eve dinner from last night will become a tradition and I will start cooking dishes to take over. I am actually looking forward to it. I know we are doing it again next year and I will make my homemade macaroni and cheese with 7 different kinds of gourmet cheese and a couple of desserts.
My grandmother used to leave tiny bowls of leftovers over the pilot light on her gas stove for days and then eat them. That was before there were horrible germs which thrived in temps between 40 and 140. I’m surprised she lived to be 95.
Wow!I’m impressed. That never works on my students. I also wanted to say that when Ryan gets the wrestling mask off and black eyes clear up, she’ll look great again. How’s the recovery coming?
LOL She had had a good one so far when I spoke with her this morning. She skipped my sil family dinner because mr brother and his…. didn’t come get her. When they stopped by afterwards to ask why she didn’t go she said I thought you would have got me to ride with you since it is raining and you live right next door. LOL Mom actually didn’t want to go so she used that as an excuse. They did stop by and ask if she wanted to go to the breakfast this morning at 8 am and she said she was waiting for me to call and would feel bad if she missed my call. My Mom is sneaky like that and I love her for it.
My nephew and his wife and my great niece were suppose to be coming in later today and I am sure Mom loved it when they got there. Mom likes my sil about as much as I do. LOL
Well, It is actually a good thing. She can live there rent free for the rest of her life. If she needs someone, they are there. My brother comes over to see her everyday when he is home but works out fo town 10 days and then home 4 and then gone 10. My sil only sees her when my brother is there unless mom is sick or something. LOL Mom is very independent and still expects them to call before they come over. You can see I get my fiestyness naturally. LOL
I get off work at 9 and will be home between 9 and 10. LOL I didn’t start till 12:15 so I have a ways to go yet. Then I get the joy of being back here at 7 am. LOL
Happy Christmas, FM. We assumed that you were overflowing with family this time of year. I had 29 in FM family Christmas pool. I’m sure someone was closer. The winner gets a hammock.
I hope ya’ll Xmas has been going good. The weather channel is predicting snow down here for tonight, but I’ll wait and see.
My batteries ran out before I could get everyone together for a group picture this year, and no one would loan me any batteries. They’ve never been big on group pictures. 🙂
It’s been a pretty quite Christmas. KS, her mother and me. Her local brother dropped by for dinner, but he’s got a bad cold, and had to head home early. Driving 75 miles in rain when you’re feeling crappy isn’t much fun. No kids here, so it’s a low key christmas.
75 miles is not quite what a call local and when people are sick I prefer they do not come to my house. LOL It is a throw back to when Don was alive and noone was allowed in the house if they were sick.
I had a coworker/friend die of AIDS in 1992. We had to lay down the law that no one with the slightest sniffle was allowed in. We’d take turns standing guard on the steps to his apartment. He was unable to turn people away, and some people just didn’t understand how vulnerable he was.
Yeppers!!!!! and you think you were tough? I became the biggest bitch on earth protecting Don from his so called friends. We were total opposites and while he had great taste in lovers his friends were pure crap!!! I didn’t like any of them. LOL Of course he didn’t like many of my friends but he at least did like a few of them.
I forgot to mention that 75 miles is nothing to this guy. I’ve seen him drive from near St. Louis to Malibu, CA and back over a 5 day extended weekend.
Hey Teach, hope you had a nice time. I love the story on the tribe members backgrounds. I took some shots of the 1/4 moon a few hrs. ago & spent some time inserting it into another shot I had. This is “Christmas Moon”
Yes Teach. they`re contrails although some people call them “chemtrails”
My grand-daughters were over also. Here`s Jackie, one of the little monsters. They are great little girls.
Then a friend from the “National Food Bank” which I`ve volunteered for for the past 15 yrs. dropped by to give me a hard Rock Cafe biker jacket.
The moon pic is a montage of 5 photos. The moon I took tonight. I have two layers from different photos taken months ago, of stars,[ 4 min. exposures]. A cactus stand taken in daylight, but converted to black & white, then a night time picture from my porch of the contrail at sunset. The sun had already gone down but the altitude of the contrail was still in sunlight. I had to insert the moon under the contrail but still see the tranparency of the contrail to see the moon through it. I do these photo montages as home-work, to sharpen photoshop skills & also get insight into mentally composing future shots.
Andi, you’re the best. Thanks so much for sharing this image with me! My holiday’s now complete. Such a beautiful spot — I could wish for nothing better for myself. You folks are truly, incredibly fortunate (as we know already).
This is obviously last year, no?
Yup, that was last december.
I figure the reason we don’t have broadband is so we won’t become insufferable about how lucky we are. 🙂
I love that picture — I can never take snow pictures; I just get fat blobs. If wishes were geography, I’d have you there right now.
Thanks again for good wishes, Andi. You know they bolster me terrifically.

I remember that picture and I still love it!
Glad I reposted it for you, SN!
I wasn’t lying, you know.
and so you can complain about dail up all the time. LOL

Merry Christmas, Jim! Good to see you. Hope you’ve enjoyed your holiday so far.

The Dixie Chicks are fabulous!!!! I have always liked their music but their latest album if the best ever!!!!
I am still at work and am on my lunch break. Usually I have left for home at this time. LOL I am working till 9 pm and then have to be back here at 7 am in the morning. I keep thing…double time and a half to keep from going crazy. LOL
I had to work holidays years ago in another job, and two weeks off beats the hell out working. Hang in there, RF!
I Volunteered so it is my fault. LOL
It’s been wet and chilly all day here in KY. I thought I’d grab a few minutes and check in before I had to go back out to the Christmasy things. What’s everybody up to?
Hey Teach,
Are you off until the 2nd or 3rd or like me the 8th or 9th?
Jim
Teachers only on the 2nd. Kids report on the 3rd. We lost a week due to the strike.
Enjoy your next week. I am off until the 8th. But I have a mountain of grading to get done and a science program to write in that time.
Sucking in my gut and feigning a southern accent, “I’ll think about it tomorrow.”
Jim
Jim, you really should find out exactly when you have to back, the 8th or the 9th.
I didn’t check in on the FBC last Friday. I just checked out your post: security, TV crews, principal MIA or deserting.
Enjoy what’s left of your time away from your school. It sounds like you and your kids need it.
Jim
Merry Xmas everyone!
There were 36 of us this year, with all the family except seven that couldn’t show up. I got pictures of the inside of the farm house, but have to see how they turned out. I’m pooped!
I hope everyone has had a great Xmas.
Glad you had a good time and I cannot wait to see the pictures!!!!!
Hi Refinish.
Let me put it this way. By the time we left, I was more than ready to go, but it was good.
How’re you today?
I am doing well. I am at work and bored out of my mind but the money is good. LOL I had a quiet morning at home designing and spoiling the Diva Dogs.
I knew you said you had to work today, but I would hope you’ll be home soon. It late already.
Hey FM and RF.
How much good food did you have, FM?
Smoked, roasted, and fried turkey, 2 different hams, casseroles, potato salad, 6 different cakes and that doesn’t even start counting the munching stuff set out before we ate. I think this was the most food at a holiday get together we’ve had so far.
I’ve been out for a couple of days. How has you’re Xmas been?
three different kinds of turkey? Holy cow. Did they pass out the pepto bismal afterwards?
SN there was so much I forgot to mention 2 different type of dressings and I don’t know what I forgot. I did good though I limited myself to only one really full plate and then two pieces of cake.
It was funny watching the smallest greatnieces (2, 3, & 3 1/2) and the middle nieces and nephew (12 & 14) who I can remember at those ages. That’s half the fun of the get togethers to me is seeing all the kids.
I remember one christmas my sisters and I had 7 two-year olds. Now they’re about 22. Between us we now have 27 kids between 8-25.
Lots of Twins or lots of sisters?
No twins. Just lots of fertile sisters.
My god ya’ll were spittin em out like an assembly line weren’t you. 🙂
For a while there, yes. With 7 girls in their twenties and early thirties that sort of happens. And my brother had 3 during that time. Not physically of course.
so birthing babies comes naturely in the family. LOL
My sister and I both had boys on 1/16/90 – about 6 hours apart.
I had Christmas Eve Stouffers lasagna night. 🙂
ROTFLMAO!!!! But stouffers is pretty good for store bought
Yer Right! 🙂
I like Stouffers “grandmas vegetable and rice bake.” yum. Just like a real grandma!
My grandmother was always too salty.
My grandmother used to leave tiny bowls of leftovers over the pilot light on her gas stove for days and then eat them. That was before there were horrible germs which thrived in temps between 40 and 140. I’m surprised she lived to be 95.
Hi second Nature!!!!!
You’re at work until 9! Do you get double time?
Double time and a half. LOL
Hey, SN. I loved the pictures. KS and I were looking at them and it seemed preety clear ya’ll were having a good time.
Being an educated pair, did you figure out how many more chins it’s possible for me to grow? Holy shit.
Anyone who touches that one is waiting for death right? LOL
I just want to know when it’s going to stop. This effexor makes me happy but I’ve gained 30 lbs on it.
We were struck by the smiles on all the faces.
I love being with them. They’re my favorite people and loads of fun.
It clear that you guys enjoy being togetner. I’ve seen way too many family pictures were it’s clear that the people didn’t any part of each other.
I told them to smile like the meant it or I’d give them chores to do. 🙂
Wow!I’m impressed. That never works on my students. I also wanted to say that when Ryan gets the wrestling mask off and black eyes clear up, she’ll look great again. How’s the recovery coming?
She’s doing great. The eyes have gone from blackish to a festive bright yellow and the nose has started to unswell. Is that a word?
The entire family is a beautiful family and you can tell they are a happy bunch. You should be proud.
Thanks, RF. Did your mom have a good holiday?
LOL She had had a good one so far when I spoke with her this morning. She skipped my sil family dinner because mr brother and his…. didn’t come get her. Oh my gosh, they live next door? That sounds like FamilyMan’s family. Too close for comfort.

She sounds like a cool lady. Please let me know if she needs anything – I’m only a short drive away.
I will. Thank you!!!!
Good answer Teach!
I get off work at 9 and will be home between 9 and 10. LOL I didn’t start till 12:15 so I have a ways to go yet. Then I get the joy of being back here at 7 am. LOL
I love it RF. Dedication. 🙂
dedication my ass. It’s called being poor. LOL
I hope you have something fun in mind for the extra money. Don’t go all sensible on us and pay a bill or something.
Trust me bills are exactly why I am doing this. LOL
Well, it’s not as much fun, but I’m sure the relief is worth it.
Yes it is.
Happy Christmas, FM. We assumed that you were overflowing with family this time of year. I had 29 in FM family Christmas pool. I’m sure someone was closer. The winner gets a hammock.

I hate to, but I’m so full and so tired, I think a nap is calling me.
Hope to see everyone a little later.
sweet dreams FamilyMan!!!!
It’s time for me let KS and her mom do some online genealogy, so I will catch with you later. Been nice visiting.
have a great evening!!!! remind me to give you some links for some stores that feature genealogy designs.
I get to finally leave work in 8 minutes and go home and feed the Diva Dogs there dinner and unwind. LOL
I am home, the dogs have been fed, the shoes and the even crazier santa hat are off and I am ready to relax!!!!
I’m glad to hear it, refinish! Hope your day wasn’t too arduous to justify the overtime.
It wasn’t too bad. I only had one customer all day who was a total jerk so that is not too bad. LOL
Sounds like a little Christmas miracle, just for you.
🙂
Hi there Wildernice wench, I finally found you for your ornament.
Hey Teach, hope you had a nice time. I love the story on the tribe members backgrounds. I took some shots of the 1/4 moon a few hrs. ago & spent some time inserting it into another shot I had. This is “Christmas Moon”
Hi, KnuckleHead, Merry Christmas! Great picture. What are the white and red streaks?
They must be jet trails.
Yes Teach. they`re contrails although some people call them “chemtrails”

Kidspeak said it was a cactus. Anyway. NIce job. The picture is striking. It’s very late so, good night and I’ll talk to you soon, I’m sure.
