Nah I guess I’ve got enough to do between the eating and sleeping.
I’ve finally figured out why we never got snow down here. The leaves are still on the yard. I’ve got to give it a reason to snow, so if I fianlly get the leaves up then it will snow.
I’m afraid I’ll have to remain a coffee shop virgin. Maybe I should go to B’ham and get me some….. ah coffee. π
As well you should. They might let you off the hook but not me. You’ve been scarce around here, CG and I, for one, don’t like it. Mostly I’m jealous that you have a life.
I have mixed feelings about it. When I bought his plane ticket last week, I started having some anxiety about him getting on the plane and going halfway across the country by himself and actually having to be responsible for himself without me there (my baby!). And I was a little surprised to feel that way…I want him to be more mature, but it feels a little funny to begin letting go at the same time.
And then he acts like a surly 14 year-old, and I think, “ten more days, and I get a break from all this arguing and grumpiness.” And then we have fun doing something together as simple as trying on silly hats while picking out hiking boots, and I know I’ll miss him. All over the map, I am. π
He’ll be gone for 28 days, but I fly out for the last 3 days for a parent seminar and then I’ll fly back with him.
I keep running into more people who had children or friends who did OB, and I haven’t heard anything negative yet. I think it will be good for him…he’s excited, if a little nervous.
Owen spent a summer in Costa Rica when he was fifteen and I missed him terribly. He came back an even more interesting person than he already was, but different somehow in a way I couldn’t put my finger on. More mature. Less mine.
Wade Edwards did an OB thing and even though he was already a remarkable young man it had a great impact on him.
I guess it’s sort of a shift from having memories and experiences that are mostly shared family history to our kids having their own experiences and becoming more themselves. A necessary one, but it does feel a little funny to be pushing the baby I could hardly bear to set down the first week he was here out into the world by himself. I guess it’s growth for both of us. π
My mom called me this morning to tell me she had read about Wade Edwards doing OB. I have got to read that book!
How is Ryan doing? And Colin? And Ben? When do they all head back to school?
I’ve been thinking about you today. Just saw the local ottawa news and they’re reporting on colorado … see, we don’t have any snow so we have to go away to at least talk about it.
Hope you and Bu are warm and are stocked up w/ supplies so you can snuggle in. {{{d}}}

Hi everyone! A belated Feliz Navidad (y Prospero Año Nuevo)
the tunes are cooler than our weather. It’s 50 outside but all the mountains surrounding the city are white with snow. Apparently we stole it from other parts of the country. Hope that the food materializes quickly! If all else fails, make some hot chocolate on the stove with fresh cinnamon. mmmmm
must be on overdose. They didn’t come up in the shuffle. I got to see them a couple of weeks ago tho, they were great (as always)! I took a cousin to her first show and now she’s hooked.
You guys will have to party for me. My son has had a filling that leaked. He has a very small mouth and all of his permanent will have to be bonded so that his teeth don’t decay, plus he will have to have at least four permanently removed in April. It took me forever and a day to find a orthodontist/dentist who works on special needs children and also who uses more than giggle gas to do things like a root canal (which is what my son needs right now). A lot of special kids have been traumatized by so many medical procedures needing to be done on them and my son is no different and he is terrified of dentists due to his past fillings. I found the dental doctor but he is very popular of course because he is so damned good….everybody wants their child going to him. He can’t get Joshua in until the fourth so we go with Ibuprofen and Anbesol. Then today one of his new titanium rods came unattached in his back. He was complaining that his ribs were hurting so I checked his back as I have been instructed and a rod is protruding very close to the skin……it will be a surgery some time within a week in San Antonio or maybe Birmingham depending on what the doctors can arrange, I’m still waiting for the nurse who is head of the Titanium Rib study to return my message. I had hoped that maybe I was just imagining things but my husband came home from work and looked at his back and said, “Nope, it has come apart.” I just feel licked to beat all hell today.
If he has to go to Birmingham, could he get dental care there? I’ve heard good things about Jonathan Curtis, a pedi dentist in Cahaba Valley or Cahaba Heights, who has experience with special needs kids. Oh, why am I telling you this? I’m sure your person is closer and more accessible.
Hope you can get some rest before the coming storm of activity, in any case, MT.
but what you propose may be how we have to go. They won’t do surgery on the children when they have ongoing dental infections, it can cause further serious health problems. His dental troubles and back troubles may have to be dealt with almost in unison and if we end up in Birmingham the name dropping could be of more benefit than you may imagine. Thank You.
Well, he’s pretty newly minted, but had special training in NY dealing with special needs kids as part of his pediatric specialty. Can’t vouch for him personally, but via family/academic connections, hear he’s good and because new, relatively easier to get appointments.
Hope whatever happens is that which is easier on you and on him! Travel for medical stuff is never pleasant.

Play the Game — Queen

I remember seeing the video to “Asshole” a couple of years ago (right around election time, come to think of it) but I didn’t realize that it was done by Jim’s Big Ego. I don’t know much about Jim and his work but I love his song “Stress”:
I’m Addicted to stress
that’s the way that i get things done
if I’m not under pressure then i sleep too long
and i hang around like a bum
i think I’m going nowhere and that makes me nervous
everybody’s out to get me but i feel all right
everybody’s out to get me but i feel all right
everybody’s out to get me but i feel all right
Everybody’s thinking ’bout me its the little things that get you
its the little things that get you when you weren’t paying attention
its the little things that get you
its the little things that get you when you weren’t paying attention
song of his is “Prince Charming”; that was one of the songs I looked up the lyrics to today. Opening passage:
I think you better cut all that hair off
throw it out the window
climb down from that tower
flip the wicked witch the finger
ain’t no use to wait for him to get you
he’s out chasing his own demons
not like you can really blame him

Love that “flip the wicked witch the finger” line… π

is a bit overdue – sorry!
What’s everyone doing this weekend? Do y’all have big plans for New Years, or are you hanging at home and chillaxing (as CBtY would say)?
I guess the cabin gang was having too much fun for you to worry about little ol’ us. LOL
I was actually out seeing The Good Shepherd and eating gyros…BTW, it’s a good movie.
and long?
Very – 3 hours.
And I have to day, how believable is the idea that a guy could have a wife that looks like Angelina Jolie and have no interest in her?
Not believable. Is that the one about the cia.
It is. It was good, but that part was just too much to believe.
Once it comes out on DVD I might go ahead and rent it.
Not believable at all. I’d be interested in her.
Watch out Brad. π
Yeah, I’m sure. π
Long nap?
Yep. I’m hoping to get caught up soon with the naps.
How’s your day gone so far?
Let’s see: dog park, cleaning the house, taking down Christmas stuff, lunch at the boy’s place of employment, nap, laundry…
Just the usual.
Gosh you lead such an exciting life. All I do is eat and sleep. π
I will gladly share these tasks with you, FM.
Come on up and I’ll take you to your first coffee shop. I love coffee shop virgins. They’re so fun to deflower.
Nah I guess I’ve got enough to do between the eating and sleeping.

You could get a lot of interesting stuff in B’ham I’ll bet.
Killed for one thing. You have to watch out in those cities.
I’d just stay home if I were you, FM. A delicate flower such as yourself needs to be careful.
I think you’re right. I’m too fragile for the big city. π
Clearly, your claims of not having a life are vastly exaggerated.
I agree. I don’t see how much more excitement she could take. π
Your jealousy is flattering.
Second Nature is cuter than Brad. He better watch out.
That’s what I was saying.
LOL You know I am just kidding with you darling!!!!
I know. Just feeling gguilty about posting the cafe and then disappearing for a while… π
How was your day? Do you have to work long tomorrow?
As well you should. They might let you off the hook but not me. You’ve been scarce around here, CG and I, for one, don’t like it. Mostly I’m jealous that you have a life.
I’ve been missing all of you too. And lately it feels like my life has had a lttle too much teenage drama and angst in it… π
And speaking of having a life, I’m jealous that you had Thai food the other day…
It was reeealllly good. π
ARe you getting sad about the elder leaving soon? How long will he be gone?
I have mixed feelings about it. When I bought his plane ticket last week, I started having some anxiety about him getting on the plane and going halfway across the country by himself and actually having to be responsible for himself without me there (my baby!). The weather folks are talking of about a foot of snow with 30 mph winds for the weekend. Thankfully, we’re stocked with groceries, etc.
Fog, then light snow, about a half inch, and no wind, so visibility 4-5 miles.
The layer of snow has improved the view, no more black fields between here and the horizon.
Racoon tracks in the fresh snow on the steps to the front deck.
Chickadees, nuthatches, bluejays, and downy woodpeckers at the bird feeder on the 2nd story deck.
Humanoid slurping a Sleeman’s Orig Dark Ale.
looks like this:
car’s buried…again…time to join you in a New Belgium 2 Below, NDD
I thought your cat was buried again.
That’s exactly what I thought, too, and I have my reading glasses on.
I’ve been thinking about you today. Just saw the local ottawa news and they’re reporting on colorado … see, we don’t have any snow so we have to go away to at least talk about it.

we just broke a 93 year old Dec snowfall record in town…and it ain’t over…brrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
and there are no cats at casa d…strictly a “dog” house…:{)
… ’cause he’d be buried! π
And this three legged orange thing showed up and if only the dogs behaved so well……sigh.
A fine brew NDD … π

Oh geez. Poor Josh. Poor mom.

Sending you warm wishes, MT, for healing, for strength & for the very best outcome possible.
Did you opt for the second shower?
Hello, dear luscious one. Alas, I didn’t — a wee diva-drama intervened. Then supper & then, thank Gaia, cooler temperatures with sunset.
How are things at the Nature Chalet this evening?
Very quiet, very quiet. The Mr. went to visit his sister in Charleston. The older boy is out cavorting and my daughter went back home because she’s on call for tomorrow. Then the exciting night of…well, watching TV planned for new year’s eve.
Speaking of tv, thanks for your front-page take on tonight’s death-watch. I’m glad I’ve avoided the coverage.
Sounds like you’ve had a very pleasant, mellow day! I sure wouldn’t complain, myself.
It also seems like Ryan’s doing ok.
Maybe later Teach will post a true Random 10 for the first time – I finally succumbed and got him an ipod for his birthday. He’s been hinting for weeks and weeks.
We’re still suffering that huge jet lag of traveling from central to eastern time zone, and staying up all night last night while being punished (for our absence), by lonely animals romping like a herd of dinosaurs. It’s one of the few times I wish we had wall-to-wall carpeting.
So, I’m off to take a short nap before supper.
When was his birthday??????
I believe it is Jan. 01.
I guess we will do a New Years Day for Teach!!!!

And do it in the light of tonight`s moon.
Another great picture Head. Oh and thanks for the offer of help last night with the photo programs. I think mine will do what you were talking about, but I’ve just got to learn it.
Very cool.
Thank you for another absolutely gorgeous moon-vision, Knucklehead! These are terrific.
At the risk of everyone having already seen this one, I`ll repost it, for NDD
Wow .. ..
Thanks for the repost! I hadn’t seen it either. What a beautiful shot! (The kind I’ve always longed to take, up in the woods. Didn’t have the equipment for it, though.)
I do have to disclose that the image is comprised of two images, that I put together.
Hi WW.
Are you and Mom rockin & rolling’?
Goodness no, we’re not! I refer to Mother Nature (a relation of SN’s — as well as everyone else!).
Our pond-mates in Winter-Land seem to be weathering the weather very well. How are you?
I rather like the thought of you and your mother rockin’ and rollin’. π
Trust me, SN, our rockin’ & rollin’ ain’t pretty. More like a danse macabre, actually.
π
I’m doing fine, just trying to get caught up.
I keep seeing the snow pictures and wishing it was here, but to no avail.
How’re ya doing down there?
Finishing out my sentence, I think. Thanks for asking!
I see you’re headed to bed soon. Hope to spend a bit more time in your wondrous presence before long!
Well I’m getting hungry again, and I guess I’ll go to sleep after eating.
Everybody have a good night in the pond.
G’night FM! Pleasant dreams…
open here.
