And no, I did NOT pull another all-nighter; was in bed shortly after the Sharks’ horrendous game last night (lost 8-0 to Phoenix; if Olivia comes in she can commiserate), so got about 6 hours or so of shut-eye before I woke up and decided to get out of bed. Spouse making a recycling center run today, so maybe I can go through some of the old magazines and decide if there’s anything worth keeping then bag the rest; the big recycling center up in Palo Alto takes just about everything including styrofoam, plastic bags, batteries, phone books and magazines — the local one in Sunnyvale pretty much does just cardboard, newsprint and mixed paper, so it’s worth the extra few miles.
Can’t believe it’s the last day of 2006 — it’s been pretty much a mixed bag this year, good (our trip to the Northwest, the BooTrib get-together in SoCal) and bad (the assorted health and personal/marital crises). But 2007 is already looking a bit better — spouse may be back at work by mid-January (though he’ll need a few days of retraining first), my “Operation Incredible Shrinking Woman” is progressing, and I’m feeling a little more confident about the future of this country and the future of this household…

since I started it before New Year’s, it’s probably got a better shot at working — in the past I’ve made New Year’s resolutions in February…for Chinese New Year. 😉
Actually I just came up with the title for the “project” within the last week — sort of makes it a bit more fun and a bit less work…

Most definitely not going to Times Square tonight. curly and I will head out to friends on Long Island. A quiet dinner with all of 6 people.
Yeah I think I’m past the age of large crowds. Just bringing in the New Year with friends and family sounds good. You and curly enjoy yourselves.
The last (and only) time I did the large crowd thing was the 2000 new year’s eve. I hated it and that wasn’t even a large large crowd.
I used to love large crowds when I was younger, but 4 times in NO for Mardi Gras and 3 times in Munich for Octoberfest and various other things, I’ve sort of gotten to the point where I’ve seen enough. Geezerhood, ain’t it great. 🙂
Never done the large crowd thing for New Year’s. A meal with friends would be nice, but even that is usually out for us. We will likely either be asleep by midnight (that is truly showing geezerhood, I think), or listening to BBC dramas while also doing other things. We live a life of excitement and drama at every turn.

I’ve an exciting day of writing letters of recommendation and housecleaning planned. Plus keeping spouse away from his computer as much as possible.
The letters and housecleaning will be kind of boring, but you could make a game out of keeping Teach away from the computer. BTW why do you want to keep him away from the computer?
He’s almost become frozen to his chair and keyboard. And I realize its asking a great deal, but I would like to have our kitchen redo finished before the 14th year of the start of that remodeling. . .not that we’ll do anything about that today.

Actually, I’m almost equally to blame. At least 49% worth. We are an example of what’s called “assortative mating”: similar in good and not so good habits.
getting along on all the wrong things is certainly part of what has made our marriage last.

it’s harder to keep my spouse away from the computer — if I’m on the laptop he’ll hop on the desktop, and vice versa. And if I get the new laptop I’m hoping for (rumors are that Apple’s going to release a 12-inch MacBookPro at the upcoming MacWorld, which would be the perfect size for traveling, school, etc.), we’ll be a three-computer household; I’ll reformat the iBook to be his personal laptop, then we’ll each have one for when we’re traveling together — pack along the Airport Express and we can even set up a small WiFi network in our hotel room… 😉

Seems like a gloomy sort of day but it’s still nice and warm so I’ll try to get Hopeful to the dog park before it rains. She chewed up my card reader last night while I was organizing the office, so I’ll have to buy another one today. On the plus side, her anus can now upload my photos!
Can someone look at the second photo in the “more photos” section and tell me if this young woman can possibly weigh 155 lbs? I’ve already fired off a LTE about the disconnect between what the article says and what the photos say.

Well, she is 6’1″ but her friend is 6’2″ and weighs supposedly less, but manages to have some meat on her bones and not look like a crack whore. Sorry, I just hate how they make young girls look.
I agree with you. Most of the models look like skeletons.
Her feet are size 18.
They were filled with cement at an early age to keep the wind from blowing her off the planet!
She may once have been 155 at 6/1″, but she surely isn’t in that photo. That’s before the ad agency had her lose at least another 30, I’d bet.
She reminds me of some of the anorexic gals I used to work with who wore many layers of clothing well before that was stylish, to hide how thin they were.

We’re having the cake tonight (along with our Indian feast), and tomorrow I’m trying out a creme brulee french toast recipe made with Challah bread and Cointreau (in lieu of Grand Marnier).

Good morning and happy new years froggies! It has been one hell of a year and tonight may be a microcosm of that. Got invited by the maybe man at the last minute of course to a musical event but it’s sold out.
I guess what I’ve learned recently is that there are a handful of occasions that really are special that I need to plan ahead for. Too sick and/or crazed to realize this until now. Oh well better late than never…
LOL Happy New Years Soup!!!! I just finished rebuilding a section of the fence that the Diva dogs kocked loose. Who ever built this fence must have learned building from a republican. The damn fence is put together with mainly finishing nails which have no holding power at all. They are typically used to hold molding in place not a fence board!!!
I realized the fence was broken yet again when Bette kept running in here and right back out and Reba was never with her. When I got to the back door Reba was no where to be seen but when I called she was trying to force herself back through the opening she created to get out. Getting out was much easier as the boards swing out not in. LOL If I could have gotten hold of the camera fast enough you would be seeing a picture of her stuck. LOL She got herself through finally and I locked them inside while I did repair work.
I am on my way to the store to lay in supplies for tonight. I would have done this earlier but in Texas you can not buy wine till after 12 on Sundays. I guess the minsters were tired of their congrgations showing up drunk. LOL

I will have to check it out. New Years celebraqtion has officially started for me. I am eating sushi for lunch that I watched them make at the store. For tonight, I have double creme brie, smoked gouda,goat cheese with pepper, pastor picon with caraway sees, peppered salamie,proschuto, blue cheese and to drink Kendal Jackson Reserve Chardonay. For dessert, a mini sacher cake. LOL I also got some eggnog so I can make a white russian with egg nog since I did not have one christmas. LOL Luckily I do not go to work till 4 pm tomorrow.
Close enough to party time to open a celebratory cafe.
