The House is debating HR1, a bill to enact almost all of the 9/11 Commission recommendations. A little over forty years ago they were using firehoses and german shepherds on blacks in Mississippi that wanted to vote. Today, the chairman of the House Homeland Security committee is Bennie Thompson. He’s a black man from Mississippi. He is presiding over the debate on this bill. John Murtha is acting as speaker. And the Republicans are acting with extreme resentment and anger at the sudden change in power. I can hardly explain how satisfying it is to watch this on television. This is what we were working for. This is excellent.

Sen Kennedy. They are showing fire fight footage from Iraq. I have mixed feelings about it, they never show a soldier who took one in the head….I think it’s sort of war porn. One of the soldiers though told another soldier to not get on his ass. I didn’t see the screen so I don’t know why but the CNN anchor apologized for the bad language because the soldiers weren’t watching their language under the stressful situation. Bawahahahaha! She hasn’t heard anything yet…..it’s the footage that she didn’t hear that would really fry her hair for sure. Maybe they do need to show it though, maybe people should really hear how soldiers under life or death stress really talk.
I liked the zingers put in by Gary Ackerman (NY) such as:
“cleaning up the mess made of our national security”
“inept policy the Bush administration pursued and the previous Congress rubber-stamped”
a strategy which is “thoughtful and insightful,” — and which “does not depend on the word freedom to transform cultures”
is “not faith-baised,”
“not a policy in which we simply announce and then hope and pray that it works.”
“infringement on our civil rights;”
and regarding Iraq:
“our recklessness in tearing down the structures of law and order,”
“our unconscionable passivity,”
“our idiotic disengagement.”
yeah, I enjoyed that.
Rep. Thompson was on C-SPAN this morning (Washington Journal). Definitely worth watching off the website if you missed it.

not the least of which is the prominent role for my new Congresswoman Kirsten Gillibrand in sponsoring H.R. 1.
this is for him…
I couldn’t access your front-page posting — every time I clicked on it, it took me to a page telling me I need a Windows Media License, and I’m trying to keep my Macs as free of Window$ pollution as possible. Any way you can correct that?
Thanks muchly…
