As Chancellor Palpatine once said: “It’s treason then.”
Walter B. Jones, the Congressman from North Carolina who gave us the term “Freedom Fries” has introduced new legislation in the House which would require Bush to get Congressional authorization for any attack on Iran:
Now members of Congress have launched their own pre-emptive strike on the Administration, introducing legislation requiring the President to gain Congressional approval for any attack on Iran. The effort is spearheaded by Rep. Walter Jones, a North Carolina Republican who’s emerged as a leading critic of the war in Iraq and a harsh opponent of confrontation with Iran. Jones has assembled a diverse coalition of lawmakers, ranging from conservative Republicans to liberal Democrats, who believe it’s time to teach the Administration a lesson in government 101.
“Our constitution states that–while the Commander in Chief has the power to conduct wars–only Congress has the power to authorize war,” Jones said at a press conference today. “It’s time for Congress to meet its Constitutional responsibility…This legislation makes it crystal clear that no previous resolution passed by Congress authorizes such a use of force [against Iran].”
Such a basic expression of the separation of powers should be obvious. But with the Bush Administration, one never knows. So H.J. Res 14 spells it out. “This resolution says a strong message that Congress won’t stand idly by and it won’t get railroaded into another war that will only make America and the world less safe,” said Rep. Marty Meehan. “A lot of people in Congress are fearful that this war will expand,” added Rep. Ron Paul. Containing an expansion of the war, said Rep. Neil Abercrombie, is “the most important issue this Congress will face aside from Iraq.”
My, how times have changed since certain people were calling for a boycott of all things French. What a blow that must have been. I hear from a reputable source that there was much gnashing of teeth and wailing in the streets of Paris, misery the likes of which has rarely been seen before. And all that because France wouldn’t vote for a UN resolution giving our Dear Leader the UN Security Council’s blessing to bomb, mutilate and generally destroy Iraq in the name of freedom. The gall of some people.
So, Mr. O’Reilly, now that it’s Iran that Congressman Jones want to keep President Bush from liberating, I have only one question for you. When do you plan to call for a boycott of the treasonous State of North Carolina?
We’ll be waiting ….

Then all his crazy fans will stay away and we can live in peace here in the Tar Heel State!
Ya know?
I expect that he’ll make his announcement shortly.
So if they pass the bill and Bush launches a war with Iran without permission, will he then finally be undoubtedly qualified for impeachment? Or will he veto it? Or maybe just add a signing statement saying “Neener, neener, you can’t make me?”
How pathetic is it that Congress is reduced to passing additional laws to make sure the guy who swore to uphold constitution does just that?
At least they are starting to do something. Amazing what a few election reversals of fortune will do.
But of course, all the pro-Bush pundits are continuing to call everything Congress is doing is politically motivated and aimed at the 2008 elections. Apparently they’re still missing the point that their man is intent on starting a world war even though he’s pretty well destroyed our military, and won’t stop no matter what anybody tells him…but at least some of the Republican reps have noticed there’s a crazy man in the White House.
The pundits always think everything is politically motivated.
Thier utter disdain for the intelligence of the American people always astounds me.
Congressman Walter Jones has a bunch of military bases in his district, including Camp Lejeune Marine Corps base. The two constituencies that elect a Congressman from his district are military families and farmers.
So what O’Reilly would be advocating is the boycotting of tobacco farmers and the Marine Corps.
I can see it now: O’Reilly calling for a boycott of the Marines Toys for Tots program.
that’s ‘the Gaul of some people’.
You’re so punny!
when will North Carolina…and the rest of red belt America…call for a boycott of Bill O’Reilly?
ASnd you know what…???
I can feel it comin”.
“Y’know, Hilda…that guy doesn’t sound so good to me anymore. Know what I mean?”
“Yes, dear…”
As long as he has enough ratings to get money and does not step too far over the FATM Line (The Frothing At The Mouth Line), he’ll still work.
Once even the most hypnotized of sleeple awawken to the evil spirits that speak through him…he’s outta there.
