Happy Monday. LOL I am probably one of the only Americans who has no clue who won the super bowl. LOL I watched cartoons and worked on designs instead. You can see some examples in yesterdays cafe.
If you live in Indiana, you had to have the game on or be forced to leave the state. And as someone who has put up with years of harassment about being from such a podunk place from my Chicago relatives, I can tell you that I enjoyed the outcome immensely.
Ok, I’m embarrassed to say, it’s 26 ABOVE zero here. What can I say – I think I’m becoming Southernized! Don’t tell Family Man if he ever shows his face around here again.
I rooted for the Colts because, though they were favored, I figured a real colt would be totally torn apart by a real bear, so in my mind the colts were the underdogs.
Good morning Andi. Mornin’ Ask. Mornin’ Refinish. I just got in from feeding my critters. It was 5 below zero when I went out and now it’s up to 3 below. Today is ‘nose-hair freezing cold’. If you’ve never been outside in below zero, having your nose hairs freeze every time you breathe is quite the experience.
I have just stopped in to tell you that I will be taking my leave of this site for a while. This latest storm has left me cold and I think that it best that I scoot for a while.
I hope that you will e-mail me from time-to-time and I promise that any e-mail request for a picture of Andrew will be duly rewarded!
Soup, Please lurk but stop in to let us know how things are going here in the cafe. I consider this area my safety net for the world. I can come here and relax and chat with friends and leave the politics(for the most part) out on the blog.
Honestly, for quite awhile now I’ve thought of the FBC as separate from the rest of the site. I usually will try to read the diaries and recommend them, but I am very careful choosing which ones to comment in. Until this last week when I was sort of sucked in.
I’ll probably stick to the FBC for a good long while now – because it brightens my day.
just going to be me, FM and a bucket of fresh ice cream?
Sorry to see so many folks leaving…I still can’t figure out what all the brouhaha was about…
Anyway, spouse is finally getting out of here to try and get all his paperwork done so he can get his ass back to work this week…I’m trying to decide what the heck to tackle while he’s gone; I work much better when he’s not around to get in the way.
Hi SN. It’s better. Looks like I couldn’t have come down with a migraine at a better time. That is if there is a better time to come down with one.
I’ve been reading through the weekend post and nothing surprising to me. I would have at least thought someone would have called a smarty pants, but alas no. I just I’ll just have to stick with back wood redneck. 🙂
I feel the same was as this is my blog home. It reminds me of when my siblings and I were young and we used to have knock down drag out fights. It’s funny thought the more we grew the fights were less and a kind of understanding took place.
So far everybody is doing fine. How are you doing on house hunting at the moment. I hope good.
I`m really sorry to tell all of you great people here today , & I know it`s really cold where you are, but it`s 80 degrees here in Malibu & I`m going to enjoy it for all of you. It will be hard, but what`s a little suffering for such a nice crowd.
I don’t think this thread is going to catch fire, but I’m going to be gone for the next couple of hours to appointments – so I might be late opening a happy hour. YOu guys could just start drinking here in the middle of Andi’s stream.
I think I need to take up that hobby. My father in heaven (not THAT one) sitting up in that big Mo’s bar in the sky, would be shaking his head at his sober daughter.
You’re right, but as I tell Omir, lying under the tap and drinking is the height of drinking and slacking. A slacker can always find an easier way to do things. 🙂
One of the new arrivals here, & with another little camera, a cactus area in the back of the house. The tall cactus I planted about 10 years ago when it was a single stalk. The other “Fuzzy Pears” I give away by the dozens every year. They are growing in the patch of flowering [now] Rosemary, which is used in our [her] cooking. The last one is “First Bath, from earlier.
Yes, they`re just like “Prickly Pear” cactus. The jelly is made up from the fruit which are red “pears”. I eat them raw, after carefully “shaving” them.
I`ll send a pic of them if you want. I know I have them in my files.
I haven’t seen those in a long time. When I lived in San Antonio we had some outside on our lawn. Never made jelly or ate any of them though. I would appreciate the picture, it’s been so long I forgot what they looked like.
“freeze the balls off a brass monkey.”
In the old pirate days, cannon balls were set in a rack next to each cannon. These racks, made of brass were called, monkeys.
When it was very cold the brass would contract, & the balls would roll free on the deck. Hence the expression.
That was just my contribution for you to achieve one of your goals.
If more people were involved you`d get your 15. I don`t know why other people are not jumping in to help.
You are all two young to know the likely origins of “colder than a well-digger’s ass”.
The phrase, according to my cousins who grew up in Alaska, is
“Colder than a well-digger’s ass in the Klondike“. Term from the gold rush days.
And, by their lights, that meant below something a bit above freezing and downward. Wells being dug by hand in those days (of course), you didn’t dig a well in the winter. by their standards, I’m guessing not all that cold for us here in the heart of the heart of the country. Now, by LaLa land standards, out where Knucklehead resides, that would be brutally cold.
(Knucklehead, your Northland blood has been thinned by years of spending too much time in the sun! Result: memory deficits for northern-speak)
Good morning, Andi.
You’re early as usual.
Happy Monday. LOL I am probably one of the only Americans who has no clue who won the super bowl. LOL I watched cartoons and worked on designs instead. You can see some examples in yesterdays cafe.
Good morning!
You’re not alone, rf. But the TV is on now, so someone is bound to spill the secret soon.
LOL Mine is on but on the cartoon network and I doubt they will mention it.
If you live in Indiana, you had to have the game on or be forced to leave the state. And as someone who has put up with years of harassment about being from such a podunk place from my Chicago relatives, I can tell you that I enjoyed the outcome immensely.
Morning Miss Andi!!! I am glad the game came out the way you wanted. The last game I wastched was 8 years ago. LOL
Yay Colts. Boo cold weather. Boo for litter boxes. Boo for Monday. Yay for sunshine. Yay for hot coffee.
Well, now I know what animal won but still don’t know what city. LOL Morning Second Nature. Great news about your son and his trip.
Wrong son – that was CG’s. 🙂
Morning to you too. Hope you’re feeling renewed.
Damn I know that and I guess the coffee just hasn’t kicked in yet. LOL
But hey, I’ll accept those congrats for the CB! He did good.
Well, congrats from me as well. He was on an outward bound type of trip, wasn’t he?
Yes, and in an unforgiving desert climate. With the worst ice storms Texas has seen in how many years, refinish?
Not sure how many years as I have only lived here 3, but it was the worst I have ever seen here.
Congrats. I know you are proud of him.
Mornin’, SN. I also am glad the Colts won. I really like Peyton Manning’s commercials and that’s actually why I rooted for the Colts. Deep, huh?
As for litterboxes, as a crazy person who is up to 11 cats, I’m with ya there, sister.
I know that you’re somewhat south of me, how cold is it in Natureland?
Ok, I’m embarrassed to say, it’s 26 ABOVE zero here. What can I say – I think I’m becoming Southernized! Don’t tell Family Man if he ever shows his face around here again.
I rooted for the Colts because, though they were favored, I figured a real colt would be totally torn apart by a real bear, so in my mind the colts were the underdogs.
Yay colts! Boo coughs! Yay for cappuccino! Boo that I have to go make it now… 🙂
And yay to be home again today.
Good morning Andi. Mornin’ Ask. Mornin’ Refinish. I just got in from feeding my critters. It was 5 below zero when I went out and now it’s up to 3 below. Today is ‘nose-hair freezing cold’. Hi Nag. I have been in weather like that before and hope never to experience it again. LOL
School are on a two-hour delay so the kids can see how cold they are.
The dogs are currently holding a sweepstakes to see who can pee the fastest and get back to grab the best spot around the stove.
So you can actually test out that theory of warm water freezing faster than cold water.
because I’m not about to go outside to confirm the results.
I just realized that I’d freeze to death if I had to pee outside.
busted before you could die.
Or you would learn to pee faster. LOL
I will check back later as I have a doctor’s appointmnet this am.
I have just stopped in to tell you that I will be taking my leave of this site for a while. This latest storm has left me cold and I think that it best that I scoot for a while.
I hope that you will e-mail me from time-to-time and I promise that any e-mail request for a picture of Andrew will be duly rewarded!
Plus, I still need to meet so many of you!
I’m most likely going into lurk mode myself for the same reasons or leaving entirely, unsure at this time.
sayonara!
I hope you won’t leave but just lurk — there are a lot of great diaries that get posted here that deserve to be read.

I hope you’ll stop by the FBC every now and grace us with some pictures of the various milestones in Andrew’s life.
And if you decide to pursue that library science degree, I hope it goes well.
Teacher Toni, please lurki and come back as an active participant when you can. You know the cafe is always a safe haven or has been to me.
just going to be me, FM and a bucket of fresh ice cream?

Hi Cali
Luckily I miss most of it this weekend. The bucket of ice cream sounds good though.
Hope you have a good day and week.
I missed most of the upraor and have ignored the fallout as much as possible. LOL
Honey, I ain’t going nowhere!!!!
That’s good to hear Refinish. 🙂
Welcome back, stranger man. How’s that big ole head of yours?
Thank you. This is my blog home or at least I feel like it is.
I hope you and FMom are doing okay. Pet George and cat for me and give them an extra treat.
I feel the same was as this is my blog home. It reminds me of when my siblings and I were young and we used to have knock down drag out fights. It’s funny thought the more we grew the fights were less and a kind of understanding took place.

Hi Head
Thanks for going throught he suffering for us. We’ll be thinking of ya and you know what we want. Pictures!
Take care

Who ever said we stopped drinking? 🙂
I think I need to take up that hobby. My father in heaven (not THAT one) sitting up in that big Mo’s bar in the sky, would be shaking his head at his sober daughter.
I think I’ve got a few friends up in that bar saving a seat for me. I keep telling them it will take a few more years. 🙂
you are a slacker and being drunk is a hell of a lot of work.
You’re right, but as I tell Omir, lying under the tap and drinking is the height of drinking and slacking. A slacker can always find an easier way to do things. 🙂
if the place catches fire, I’ll just douse it with the stream.

Great pictures Head.
Are the “fuzzy pears” the one they make jelly out of?
Yes, they`re just like “Prickly Pear” cactus. The jelly is made up from the fruit which are red “pears”. I eat them raw, after carefully “shaving” them.

It’s a mere 72° cooler here so don’t expect me to be impressed.
It was a windy 7 degrees here this morning, yes, 7 degrees. Descriptions of witches’ appendages were rampant.
Down here I think it would have to do more with a well diggers……
Just saying. 🙂
I don’t get it but I’m a little thick today.
to know the phrase.
Thanks Andi, I keep forgetting I date my age now and then. 🙂
Yeah, I’ve never heard that one.
I feel good. I’ve educated on another cold as saying. 🙂
“freeze the balls off a brass monkey.”

I’ve got a questions.
When I hit recent comments I only get about 15 recent comments. Is there someway to get more than 15 recent comments?
not if there`s only 8, but I don`t know really
Thanks Head.
Another mystery I guess.
That was just my contribution for you to achieve one of your goals.
If more people were involved you`d get your 15. I don`t know why other people are not jumping in to help.
I guess it just goes with slow and fast days for the recent comments. Thanks for the contribution.

lol!!!! I guess the phrase “colder than a witch’s T” came from dunking them in water in the winter.
I wonder how many saying world wide there are for it being colds as?
I myself can only thing of 2 or 3.
Maybe there is a book in that. LOL
Well I had grandparents who were old enough but then again if they said this phrase it would have been in yiddish.
Hey Kidspeak, where did I show Memory lapse, I forget.
Happy hour is open. Iffn ya’ll care.
