CNN polled it:
Just 18 percent said they would support a pardon for Libby, the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, while 69 percent said they opposed the idea. Meanwhile, a narrow majority said they believe Cheney was part of a cover-up in the case.
Alan Greenspan’s wife held the results upside down when she read them:
Andrea Mitchell of NBC said on “Hardball” tonight [ed. note: last night] that polling “indicates that most people think, in fact, that he should be pardoned. Scooter Libby should be pardoned.”
Okay, that was a joke. Mitchell is peeved that Fitzgerald subpoenaed the guest list from her little ‘honor Gerald Ford’ cocktail frankfurter party in July 2003. She’s been up to her neck in the l’affaire Plame from the get-go. Here’s a little reminder about the cocktail frankfurter set:
According to society sources, Sally [Quinn] invited Hillary to a luncheon when the Clintons came to town in 1993. Sally stocked her guest list with her best buddies and prepared to usher the first lady into the capital’s social whirl. Apparently, Hillary didn’t accept. Miffed, Sally wrote a catty piece in the Post about Mrs. Clinton. Hillary made sure that Quinn rarely made it into the White House dinners or social events.
In return, Sally started talking trash about Hillary to her buddies, and her animus became a staple of the social scene. “There’s just something about her that pisses people off,” Quinn is quoted as saying in a New Yorker article about Hillary…
David Broder famously remarked to Sally Quinn, that Bill Clinton “came in here and trashed the place, and it’s not his place.” It never seemed to occur to Broder, Quinn, or the snobocrats, that Washington DC is not their “place” either. It is, or at least was meant to be, the American people’s “place.”
The cocktail frankfurter set continues to operate as a snobocracy…hopelessly out of touch…about 50 percentage points out of touch.
David Broder recently predicted that George W. Bush was poised to skyrocket in the polls. His prediction was about as accurate as Andrea Mitchell’s assertion. The ossification of the national media corp has reached the DEFCON2 level. It’s like something out of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre watching Andrea Mitchell brazenly lie on national television, all to help a man that tried to use her boss as a scapegoat as he obstructed justice for nearly four years.
Mitchell, Broder, Fred Hiatt, et al. are equally clueless about Iraq. Or they are just in the bag. They need to be swept away in a true populist uprising. No more.
