Oh! The HORROR!
What is she doing…I mean “he”…I mean…”she”. Our sacrosanct frame of the beautiful and victimized Valerie Plame has been RUINED!!!!!
The last laugh (which is no laughing matter) is on YOU, however. You see, the lady in pink is one step ahead of YOU in understanding this whole situation — even if it may not be known to the pink lady herself.
You see, it saddens me to know that this whole situation is becoming one big joke. A tragic joke of gargantuan proportions. So I see the pink as really “black”. For nothing is taken seriously in the 4th Estate anymore. The “watch-dog” is a toy poodle that does tricks now and then.
This Jeanne Moos clip is reflective of the U.S. corporate media in general. Totally unwilling to look behind the reason why an ex-navy republican veteran would present herself this way.
No. God no! It must be framed as “antics” of a “special breed” of person. More cute than curiosity, even when the subject is not of the Anna Nicole Smith variety.
The irony is that the corporate media and the U.S. citizenry are being mocked by this pink lady. It is ONE. BIG. JOKE.
ONE. BIG. CHARADE.
So, dressing up in an outrageous costume is completely fitting for the times we live in. Why don’t Americans GET this irony?
6 Fucking years!!
6 FUCKING YEARS!!!!
and look where you’re at.
An investigation into the treasonous leaking of a CIA covert operative of your country — and the news is THE PINK LADY.
Don’t use her as a scapegoat.
She’s not the problem.
She’s merely reflective of where the United States of America is currently sitting right now. A joke to the world.
Don’t cringe!
What the hell are YOU going to do about it?!!!
At least she is actively voicing her dissent at the outrageousness of it all.
The official opposition in your country is unwilling to use a remedy which is a constitutional obligation in the current circumstances.
The official opposition in your country is making it easier for the right-wing nutjobs to do even more damage to THE WORLD.
The majority of Americans are UNREPRESENTED or severely UNDER-REPRESENTED in your democracy.
Think about that!
and you have the gall to criticize performance protest art which is probably more truthful about the current situation in the U.S. than anything else being presented by people who are playing the game.
Shame on you for using Midge Potts as a scapegoat to this miserable situation!
Pink or otherwise.
I strongly agree, and I’m happy to see this diary here.
My wife and I were snowed in on Friday morning, so we got to watch the whole hearing. I thought the little mini-drama with the pink lady perfectly placed over Mrs. Wilson’s right shoulder was interesting. Incidentally, I kept thinking, Man, that is one tough-looking woman! Never crossed my mind that it was a trans-gendered person, which is just an interesting sidelight.
I was surprised to see so much fierce debate on DKos about this person. My impression is that at least half of the people strongly opposed her appearance, on the ground that it detracted from the dire seriousness of the Waxman and Wilson show.
I’m on the side that strongly supported the mini-protest and was amused by it. I guess that puts me on the lefty side of all the centrist/realists at DKos, yet again.
I don’t know much about Code Pink, but they’ve definitely got my vote!
Oh…and as you say, Ms. Potts is a veteran. I’d say she has a damned right to protest however she pleases!
There are a lot of people on DKos with pickles up their you know what, it seems.
Midge is being used as a scapegoat for a political system that is sick — and I strongly disagree with the criticism that she has got at DKos.
While the pink lady has the right to do whatever she wants, her tactics were counter productive and detracted from Plame’s tesitimony that could be far more important to the effort to stop Bush’s War than dressing up and getting into a camera frame. I think it was grandstanding undertaken only because of the ridiculous culture of celebrity in our country. While I appreciate the exposure of the media’s worthless definition of what’s news, the pink lady is simply a poseur.
The Pink Lady was reminding us that impeachment is warranted — NOW!
We don’t need any more hearings. Bush broke constitutional law on at least one occasion and needs to be removed NOW before an attack against Iran is launched — thereby effectively neutralizing the dems.
She’s not a “poseur” — she’s part of a movement that wants real and effective action taken against the most criminal and dangerous administration in American history.
The dems policy of “impeachment is off the table” is OUTRAGEOUS. Posing in an outrageous costume for millions to see is only…fitting.
I respectfully disagree. My impression was that the pink lady really wanted to get the “impeach Bush” message on the air, not her own face, such as that is.
Also, “poseur” can’t possibly be the correct word. That’s just a 50-cent French version of “poser” and means someone pretending falsely to be something she’s not. My impression is that somebody like the pink lady, who is about as far out there as one can get, is the exact opposite of that. (I think you mean it in the sense of pretending to care about politics while really meaning to get on TV, and I just don’t see it that way.)
You are right about the poser part. I meant it exactly as you stated. I can see your point too. I’d defend her right to her political speech even though I disagree with the tactic.
Midge is very personable and the antics are very peaceful and telling. Impeach Bush Now – isn’t that what is needed and wanted? So she gets a spot from Jeanie on national tv, which is more than is usually gotten from the rotten corporate corpus.
