May the 4’s be with you
Newbies, Lurkers, and Splashers the water in the pond is great so just jump on in. Plus free beer!
Hey FM, hope slacking is treating you well. It’s been so long since I’ve had time to slack I think I’ve forgotten how.
Hi Kelly. It’s really good to see you.
Forget how to slack?!?! You need some remedial training right away. 🙂
I don’t do TV, but the Lord of the Rings Special Edition trilogy box set is at the top of my movies list at the moment.
Those were great movies.
How’ve you been?
Hey,
Swamped. Completely and utterly swamped. I’ve got two more WebMage books under contract now, one on singificantly expedited deadling. I’ve been making all the arrangements for those while finishing up the YA I was working on–I’m sending a 1,000 page package to my agent tomorrow with the YA stuff and a replacement for a manuscript lost when one of the editors who’s been looking at another couple of books left his publisher. And that’s generally how life’s been going. I’ve tried to lurk at least once in a while, but haven’t had much time even for that, and I’ve got to go plunge back in now that the giant print job is done. Hope life is treating you well.
Sounds incredibly busy! FamilyMan will be horrified!
Things keep moving along here too. 🙂
Things keep moving along here too. 🙂
Good to hear. And good to say hi to the frog folk even if I’m doing this very hit and run.
webmage wasn’t going to be an ongoing series! 🙁
(And congrats on selling two more books.)
I’m sorry, they waved money at me. I’m a starving artist. It was hard to resist. So far it’s going forward as a series of discrete stand-alone novels. My internal model is something like the Flinx and Pip books rather than say the Wheel of Time. I don’t want you to finish a book and feel you have to read the next one, though I’d like you to want to. Can I console you with rumors that Elenor Arnason is writing again?
That’s a pretty good consolation. If you get her to actually publish something, maybe I’ll forgive you. 😉
I think my favorite prime time show is Grey’s Anatomy. Favorite overall is The Daily Show and Colbert Report.
I also love Family Guy and American Dad…shows how immature I am.
CBtY loves Family Guy. I am a bad parent for ever letting him see it, aren’t I?
Then I am a horrible Mom too because my kids got me in to watching it. It all started with the Simpsons…
Sunday night, the black hole of cartoon watching. 🙂
I like Family Guy and American Dad too. 🙂
How’s it going SN. Don’t answer that because I’ve got to start dinner.
Back in a little while.
Hmm…favorite tv:
Deadwood
Rome
Grey’s Anatomy
Futurama
A couple of favorite movies:
Princess Bride
The Piano
Singing in the Rain
And as you can see, my taste in tv and movies could probably provide hours of psychoanalytical entertainment.
How are you this evening, FM?
Ahh I love the princess bride as well! Now I wish there was an edit function on these posts…
Favorite quote from that movie:
“There’s a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, it would be pity to damage yours.” (roughly off the top of my head)
Sounds accurate to me! My favorite is when they’re climbing up the cliffs at the beginning and Inigo is waiting at the top and he says ‘slow going?’
“This may come as a surprise to you, but it’s not as easy as it looks.”
That is one wonderful movie, and an endless source of quotes. I found a T-shirt last year at a science ficiton convention I wish I’d bought:
That convention is coming up week after next. I’ll have to see if that shirt is still available.
I hope you can find it there!
We’ve watched that movie so many times we know all the words…sort of like some people are with The Big Lebowski…
Science fiction cons are great for wonderful T-shirts. Some are so obscure no one but other fans would understand them, but some are excellent everyday wear. Last year I got a Ben Franklin shirt with his quote about liberty and security across the front, and a Zen Pirate T-shirt with “Yin-Yarrrrr!” on the front and “Embrace Tao or Walk the Plank!” on the back.
There are so many great lines in that movie. And Billy Crystal and Carol Kane were great in that too.
This is one of my favorite scenes:
:::pops out of lurk mode:::
Scrubs is my favorite tv show. Absolutely fricking hilarious!
As far as movies go right now…
The life aquatic with Steve Zissou (woohoo for netflix!)
A Scanner Darkly (hubby brought it home and was very surprised at how good it was)
I tried to watch The Life Aquatic and I kept drifting in and out of sleep. From what I remember about the experience it was pretty similar to smoking pot and nothing made any sense but it seemed like everyone else understood it but me. Probably missed some crucial element during my little naps.
I think you are probably right about having to be in the right frame of mind for that movie lol. I mainly watched it for Willam Defoe, he literally stole every scene he was in…lots of dry humor in it as well.
Hi cake – I’m glad you delurked!
Scrubs is another good one.
Current TV
. Veronica Mars
. Mythbusters
Old TV
. Buffy the Vampire Slayer
. Farscape
Really Old TV
. Barney Miller
. Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman
I have nightmares about her whiney voice and big teeth. I do remember sort of liking it though – although I was verrrrrry young and hardly remember it at all! 😉
Yeah right around Ben’s age so yes, just a kiddie.
It was wonderfully bizarre and funny.
(tee-hee)
Are you going to let her get away with that, SN?
I don’t have to say a thing. She knows if she jokes about my advanced age i just have to remind her that she’ll always be older than me!
is isn’t just a tot? Why, I have discerned from your very actions say that he is still a baby.
When I let him out of his Onesie he looks positively teenagerish. He got his braces off and looks very handsome – but more importantly he can eat Twizzlers again.
Ah the wonderful interval between the removal of the braces and the wearing of the retainer.
But you left out…
Current TV – Dr. Who.
Old TV – Dr. Who.
Really Old TV – Dr. Who.
I had SUCH a major crush on Steve Landesberg; he was the guy who played Dietrich (the philosopher detective). He was sort of nerdy looking, but I think that’s what attracted me the most…. 🙂
Movies: TRON at the top of the list, mainly because (a) it was one of the early examples of computer animation, and (b) Jeff Bridges was a freakin’ babe! Just laid down some disposable income on two out of print DVDs that I love: Yellow Submarine and the original “Fantasia”.
Current TV: “Countdown” of course; “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” is a guilty pleasure (spouse and I love sob stories!), and most of whatever’s on ESPN.
Favorite movie is a different question from what I think the best movie is.
Best Movie: The Godfather
Favorite Movie: The Big Lebowski
Favorite broadcast tv show: tie M*A*S*H, Cheers, Seinfeld.
Favorite cable tv show: Deadwood.
Hi all!
Favorite movie: too many to narrow down to one. Off the top of my head: Fargo, Being John Malkovich, The Blair Witch Project, just about all of Woody Allen’s old movies, A Beautiful Mind, Million Dollar Baby, and lots of others that don’t come to mind.
Favorite TV Show: American Idol. That’s right, I said it. It’s the zeitgeist, baby. And the beginning of the season, where they show the worst singers, is gold.
Welcome! Sorry it’s a slow night for your first comment. Really, we’re much more fun usually. Really. I swear.
Who got voted off tonight? Was it that Sanjaya kid with the horrible voice?
