Sounds like a good idea to me: LINK
This is a blogswarm dedicated to the separation of church and state, which will be held Easter Weekend, April 6-8, 2007.
At the bottom of this page you will find a link to First Freedom First, an organization dedicated to the same cause. FFF is NOT a “sponsor” of this blogswarm. They’ve just been incredibly helpful on church/state issues and we give them as much support as we can.
While they are not a sponsor, FFF is the central clearinghouse of information on Separation of Church and State issues. If you go to their website and click on “resources” you’ll find articles, book recommendations, etc. So if you don’t know what to blog about that weekend, you won’t be stuck after a visit there.
Once you have posted, send an email with the URL of the post to bluegalsblog AT gmail DOT com and I will post the link here.
You may also email me with any questions.
Thank you.
It’s obnoxious to schedule this for Easter weekend.
why?
Yes, why is it more obnoxious than any other time?
Theocratic Christians do not believe in my kind of Christianity and I doubt many people would believe in their vision of America under God if it were spelled out for them. So, I have no problem with people focusing attention on their strange and frankly dangerous views during the Easter weekend.
Oh come on. Spare me the disingenuousness. Scheduling an event like this on Easter weekend is like scheduling an anti-Israel event on Yom Kippur or an anti-Arab event on Eid. It is a deliberate attempt to provoke, to belittle, to mock, and to besmirch. It is juvenile, and it is intolerant, and it is nasty.
As a liberal Christian, I’m just as opposed to so-called “theocratic Christians” as anybody. But events like this always spill over with lots of ill-conceived bigotry against all Christians. And don’t pretend that doesn’t happen. Just read Daily Kos for about five minutes any day, and especially during Holy Week.
Arminius, you always overreact to shit and then wind up apologizing.
State and Church. The Finance Subcommittee on blah-blah-blah vs. the stations of the cross.
Apples and oranges. Or…they should be.
If you’re secure in your faith, what’s the problem?
If you want the government to stay the hell out of your church, why not point it out today?
BooMan, you also always overreact to shit, such as the content on Mobetta and Marisacat, but the difference is that you never apologize.
You say “The Finance Subcommittee on blah-blah-blah vs. the stations of the cross.” Huh? No idea what you’re talking about.
I think you’re really obtuse not to grasp my point.
I’m not especially worked up about this. I just pointed out matter of factly that it’s obnoxious to schedule something like this on Easter. The timing is obviously meant to be provocative. That might help to mobilize anti-Christian forces, but I don’t think it’s a very smart way to make progress on the issues being promoted. In other words, I don’t think it’s effective politics. You can disagree. But I don’t appreciate being insulted. I didn’t say anything within light years of requiring an apology. But you did.
whatever.
