We won again at trivia. This time we won a special prize as well as the regular $25. Did you know that the Red Bull sports drink was made in Austria? Neither did we. What’s on your mind?

from Imus-mania over at the Orange Place…Stanley Cup Playoffs start tomorrow!
One more Imus item though — Gwen Knapp of the SF Chronicle is concerned that powerful women such as Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi are not speaking out about the sexist nature of Imus’ statement.
Hi Cali. I just read the Knapp article.
The problem, as I see it, is that this world still isn’t willing to accept advocating for women, as women. While I think that racism is still terribly pervasive and oppressive, one of the main reasons that we, as a society, can rail against it is that racism affects men. Men of color, and their supporters, can argue that men should not be treated in a degraded fashion. Women, otoh, are largely defined by by men. And men define women as existing solely for men’s use. One cannot “degrade” what is “by nature” meant for use (and abuse).
The sad thing is that Imus will go back after his 2 weeks away and likely have a spike in his numbers. He has a history of these statements. This event will end up benefitting him, bringing increased attention in essentially the same way that Rush, Coulter and Howard Stern draw attention, and large incomes.
Don’t bet on it. There is a rising tide of power in this medium. First there was that little experiment re: Ann Coulter. Yesterday, P & G pulled out of Imus, and others may follow. These are great experiments in people power between elections. My bet is that Imus won’t be back.
I don’t know. I heard this morning that his advertisers are pulling their ads from his show, and I get the feeling the network won’t be rewarding that with a salary increase for Imus.
