The Froggy Bottom Cafe has a long and happy career at Booman Tribune but the time has come for it to retire.
Thanks to everyone who made this one of the best places to hang out on intertubes.

This is a sad moment for me. I have so many great memories of the Cafe. The fabulous people I have met, the laughs, the tears, and the love that has been shared in the cafe has been a mainstay in my life for quite awhile. I love you all and hope we will stay in contact.

It’s been a really great place and I’ve met people that have enriched and expanded my life. We’ll keep in touch IRL through email and maybe even futon-sleeping.
Hopefully there will be more open threads – maybe one that keeps getting bumped back to the top and we’ll fill those up with trivial chatter.

I say we share some of our favorite memories here in the cafe today to remember the good times had by all. One of the funniest nights of my life here was the night I did live blogging for the Olympic curling for those who could not watch. Curling has to be the most boring sports on the face of the earth so I was of course making snide comments the entire time. LOL
Oh yeah – I remember that! Wasn’t there also some discussion about spandex and speedskaters? 🙂
LOL yes there was and it went on to talk about swimmers and gymnist. LOL
When are the winter olympics coming around again? We’ll have to resurrect the live blogging!

Hail and farewell to the Froggy Bottom. I shared a lot of good times here with a lot of great people, too many of whom I haven’t seen in ages. I’m sorry to see the doors close. Take care all of you, and I’ll see you in the Welcome Wagon from time to time.
Perhaps, if no one objects, I’ll put the cafe in a book somewhere so that it can live on in fiction.
For old times sake, tea of the day: Flowery Yunnan–A thick dark Yunan made from high quality “flowery” tea leaves and a sweet earthy flavor.

Cafe Closing, what happened?
It had just run its course.
HI diane, It just seemed it’s time had come. Not a lot of interest of late and it seemed to have played itself out. There will be cafes once in awhile but not an everyday event.
Hi refinish and Andi, well what a surprise…..maybe now would be a good time to convert the world thread to a “cafe”, that way all of you who enjoy the camaraderie, can still have it in a way, with no effort required to put it up and so on.
Oh we will be around and who knows when a surprise cafe will appear to add some laughter into any day.
at least for this cafe. 🙂

I have enjoyed the photos and the designs. And I have so admired the sharing of life moments and events – they have helped me in so many ways.

This is such sad news, the morning cafe has become such a regular part of getting ready in the morning for me.
How about the occasional ‘ad-hoc’ cafe? If anyone feels like a chat in the morning (or afternoon, for that matter), just put one up!

Just wanted to pop in and say thanks to everyone who has helped out with the cafes and lounges. The marmot suffers from a serious addiction to the white peach tobacco in the hookah, so I’m sure it’ll get lit every once in a while.

Louv’s book justifies the trio, He argues that many things that are wrong in education are because our kids today are disconnected from their natural world.

Oh cry. I come in and out of the cafe and I am sad that it is leaving. I hope that we still have an occasional cafe. Thank you everyone for making the cafe and creating a cool community zone.

I stopped in to see who’s retiring and find it’s the cafe itself! It will be missed. I haven’t been here much lately but it’s nice to know the old places are still around. Ah, well, everything changes. See you all on the open threadss.
Many of us had the keys to the froggybottom suit but 99 out of 100 times it was Andi that put them up and organized everyone and found replacements when someone had to drop out and the cafe was rocking with 5 or 6 cafes a day. Without Andi the cafe would have died at least a year ago.

Speaking just for me, I felt it was time to restructure. The lounges/cafes have always been designed to be a living room so members could chat about non-political things, but also to serve as the welcome mat for new members.
Trying to maintain a twice-daily cafe has gotten more difficult with a shrinking number of people to serve as hosts. We’ve left the door open to the possibility of having a cafe here or there, but wanted to shift away from the expectation that there would be one all the time 24/7-365.
There will be a weekly cafe/lounge for sure on Wednesdays and beyond that it’s sort of an open door. BooMan’s idea for the World/Open thread to automatically refresh is an idea worth exploring, imo.
Hope that helps to clarify it, no one is quitting the site (that I know of), it was just time to relinquish the responsibility and focus on new things.
Thanks for this explanation. Also wonder about making cafe hosting less exclusive and more cooperative might be a solution.
Here’s a couple of ideas for recurring cafe-like things:
