I just have to express what I know to be true in this diary entry. I can’t say why I know it, but usually when I have a strong gut feeling about something, it pans out.
I have long maintained that The GWOT is a hoax to provide cover for domestic centralization of power and aggressive war. I’m sure there is a part of most readers who agrees with this, whether or not they feel the threat is real. There is no doubt there is corruption and crass political maneuvering. I just feel that was the plan from the start.
I also feel this way about Iraq. If the goal is permanent occupation, we’re doing a heckuva job. I strongly maintain that the Iraqis are our Palestinians: a group trapped by geography to be forever abused by us in order to maintain access to natural resources and some delusional model for securing our nation. We are going no where soon, unless we elect Kucinich, and we all know that won’t happen.
But we know about this stuff, I wanna talk tactics. I want to talk about protection rackets and grand theater.
I strongly believe that the US (tons of evidence) effectively created or supported the majority of the virulent Islamicist movements around the world during the last throws of Communism and then took them to be our own enemy merely to justify prolonging the era of excess for the benefit of the military industrial complex.
The idea of running both sides of a conflict that is fear-inducing to your own public is not new, and has certainly been used by many nations in the past.
Here’s a few pop cultural examples to illustrate this tactic.
First is ‘The American Way’, a serial and graphic novel where the US govt stages combat between American and Communist super heros in order to boost American spirit during the Cold War. Fake Commies would threaten but are ultimately defeated by US heroes. This was a deception to lift the nation’s spirit, but the tactic is the same as the GWOT: run both sides of a conflict of your creation in order to manipulate the populace.

Another, more perfect example (perhaps intentionally so) is in, of all places, the Star Wars saga. The latest 2 movies deal with the genesis of aptly named ‘Clone Wars’. Basically, a really nasty gent takes over the Democratically governed universe and converts it into his own Empire by manufacturing the space-age equivalent of the GWOT. His agents ally with the military industrial complex to provoke a revolt against the Democratic government so that he (a Senator) can step in to defeat them, claiming more and more special authority to fight the rebellion of his own creation. Sound familiar?
That is why we cannot buy into the GWOT on the terms presented. I have no doubt that there are now many Islamicist groups well out of our control and that is the genius of this tactic: it is self-fulfilling prophecy. While we may not have been under any sustained threat post-9/11, it is growing more and more likely each day our policies unfold that we will have a real armageddon on our hands.
