“I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians … the A.C.L.U., People for the American Way, all of them who have tried to secularize America, I point the finger in their face and say, ‘You helped this happen.'”
— Jerry Falwell, September 13th, 2001, on The 700 Club
Maybe there is a God.
if there is a hell he is there with reagan, all the popes, and hitler.
burning.
It is too bad that the hatred he spewed didn’t die instead.
He started out as a race-baiter and segregationist. More proof that Repub ethics nowadays are, at their base, the Southern and Midwestern white lower- and middle-class reaction against blacks and civil rights and economic empowerment.
Of course, he branched out on gays and women. But this was where he got his first ducats.
reported that his “ministries” made 200 mil a year! Now who will benefit from all that dross?
he disrespected.
Bad enough we’re going to hear the bleat of every propaganda media outlet saying how much of a great American he was all week long.
I know what he is and was. And I will not refrain from saying so.
“They say you shouldn’t say nothing about the dead unless it’s good. He’s dead. Good.”
And that is all. Next.
Well, I am sorry for his family. Having attended a funeral for my wife’s father recently, and my sister-in-law’s father, it’s a hard time.
there’s a f’kg large difference between your family and the Falwell family.
I hope all the spirits of those whose beatings, fire bombings and even lynchings he encouraged are keeping him company right now.
Maybe so. But his grandchildren at least have my sympathy.
As for Falwell, himself, I have no respect for the life he led, the lies he told, or the hatred he inspired in others. Unfortunately, that legacy will survive his personal death.
It will be some time before at least one of them shakes off the BS.
He has a family, and they are not bad people. He is dead, and is now just a slab of dead protein. His wife and/or children deserve our sympathy.
More importantly, we at BoomanTribune DO NOT want to be featured in the “Left WINGNUTS celebrate Jerry Falwell’s death with unseemly gloating.” Please, a little respect.
He never got around to showing respect to me or anyone who looks like me. I respond in kind.
My concern right now are for other families experiencing death and loss who don’t have lots of assets of “famous” friends.
That should read, “… or ‘famous’ friends.”
how do you know if his family are good people or bad people?
i think it is disrespectful to stay silent when people who are evil bastards who caused a lot of suffering die….this is the correct time to tell the truth and say it loud and clear….the wingnuts wont have anything nice to say about us no matter what.
i dont want him to rest in peace either….im hoping he is suffering….i dont believe in that stuff but he did and if he was right about heaven and hell i hope he is in hell.
Because most people are reasonably nice, and I assume so until proven otherwise.
I prefer not to spew venom on dead slabs of protein. Makes us look like loons.
the dead slab of meat that was Jerry Falwell.
I think most of us are inveighing against the HARM he did to millions of people here in the United States and elsewhere. It’s his actions that have caused so many people pain.
The kind of fundamentalist and racist propaganda that gets black men beaten to death in Jamaica for cross-dressing in public and dragged to death in Texas.
White people smile up in black people’s faces all the time. We just watch and see what they do and say before we figure out whether they’re our friends or not. Even with word of mouth.
It don’t take that long for us to get a fricking clue. Even on TV.
reagan was nice
i asked how you know they are good?
At that point, he had no use for you whatsoever.
That bat shyt is a front. Deep down is what people need. And deep down Reagan was an empty shell and Falwell was a full slop jar.
People should be remembered for what they did, and be held accountable for their actions.
This is not a dude that we want to memorialize.
I’m sorry for his family. I’m sorry that his passing is causing grief for many people.
I’m more sorry he ever lived.
I won’t miss him. But I think I’ll force myself to watch the 700 Club today to see how Crazy Pat spins this one and exploits the man’s death for profit. Let’s see. Maybe God sacrificed ol’ Jerry to punish us for not praying enough to stop the Infidel Homosexuals and maybe because you neglected to send in that extra $100 last month God is smiting us by depriving us of such a prophetic Leader. Oh, and don’t forget – hurricane season starts up soon. Gotta send in those pledges to prevent imminent disaster.
Let us pray…
to paraphrase Mark Twain:
I won’t attend the funeral, but I’ll send a nice letter saying I approved of it.

Y’know what. folks?
It doesn’t make a LICK of difference whether he is alive and effectively active or dead and thus inactive.
Not a lick.
It changes nothing.
There are others who will gladly step right into his shoes.
Many others.
The actors change, but the play goes right on about its business.
Forget about him.
He has.
AG
The ones who are celebrating are the ones who can’t wait to fill his shoes. Too unseemly to display publicly.
AG
it won’t help our side any for the other side to be able to point to nasty comments about a person that just died.
let’s at least show him the respect of the recently departed, and the respect of his collar.
you know if someon says “good riddance,” then michelle malking will point and say “see???the left is evil and mean and wacko!!”
at least wait a couple days. or at least bring up salient points, like when he said that gays and unmarried women and the aclu caused 9/11.
i am listening to tucker “i hardly knew her” carlson on msnbc now, and a representative from liberty university could not answer (and in fact dodged) the very question about falwell’s blaming secularists for 9/11.
let’s stick to the facts, and not be snide.
at least not until a couple days from now.
it’s the thurman munson rule of improv: never make fun of someone on the day they die.
The Thurman Munson rule: if you make fun of Thurman Munson (now or in the future) I will a)cry, and b)hunt you down and beat your ass.
I am not much on the idea of limiting my speech because of what Michelle Malkin might say.
No matter what we do, no matter what we say, it doesn’t matter because if we don’t say anything, the Right will just make shit up. So you might as well express your bad, fabulous self!
Y’know, every day for the last… quarter century or more… that sorry waste of oxygen was doing his dead level best, in the name of some twisted ideas of his own, to see to it that I, everyone I ever cared about, and every idea that made any kind of life worth having, was either stomped on or stomped out…
And now that he’s gone to oblivion I’m supposed to say nice things about him?
The only two regrets I have are (1) he appears to have died quickly and painlessly, probably while comatose, and (2) I wasn’t there to help….
Compromise: In his honor, tonight, I shall drink several glasses of icewater, because he can’t. And then, in honor of all the victims of jerry and his fellow travelers who may now be resting easier, I have a bottle of 18 year MacAllan. Slainte’ to the deserving, and justice to jerry. Like it or not.
Best News I have had in a long time!!!!!!!!!!!!
Makes no difference. He’ll just pass the empire on down to his sons. I have this huge curiosity though about people who are so damned sure they are living the way their god intended, and I wish I could witness whatever it is that awaits them on the other side….that moment when everything they preached about either comes true….or not.
Satan and his lover Saadam and Jerry Falwell. awesome.
Now there’s a threesome. Ack. I’ll be trying to erase that image from my mind now.
Just as long as there are no Jerry Falwell sitings a la Elvis.
Poor Jerry. Now he won’t get to see the damnation and torture of all the infidels he so looked forward to.
Well actually maybe he will: Hell probably had TV before anybody else did.
Sucha sad man. A living example of how the more pious a person’s outward image, the more twisted their insides. I hope the God forgives him, if there is one. I wonder what his last words were as he died:
‘I’m dying? Damn Faggots and Jews! ..arrghhhh…….’
So I’m sitting at a bar this afternoon, (it’s my job, OK?!) and a customer checks his telephone newswire and says: “Jerry Falwell found unconcious.”
Naturally I quipped, “Jerry Fallwell found concious would be the Big News.”
As my gay, son-of-a-fundie-preacher friend says, “Buh-bye, asshole.”
Condolences to his family and friends. But I have to tell you, I will not miss his presence on the national stage regarding political matters. So much hate in one man.
Jerry Falwell will be surprised the afterlife is neither heaven nor hell, just different, and that it is populated with all those wonderful people he made a career and life out of hating. Maybe he’ll learn something so that when it comes to choose his next life he doesn’t choose one so evil as his most recent.
ye be judged. Now why would I say that about such a man? Because man is mostly a product of his enviornment, the times he lived in and the foolishness of his day. Having spent his years “in devotion to the Lord”, or should I say having spent his years in devotion to what he thought the Lord wanted.
Ok, so let’s assume for instance Jerry’s heart was true and that a five second conversation with God would in fact set Jerry straight. Don’t you think that amount of guilt might, well “blow” Jerry’s mind?
