My laptop just overheated and shut-off, losing a very long piece I was writing about how to respond via funding, primaries, and strategy to the Democratic fold.
Martin Longman a contributing editor at the Washington Monthly.
He is also the founder of Booman Tribune and Progress Pond. He has a degree in philosophy from Western Michigan University.
My Gateway does the same thing. It doesn’t do it if I have it propped so that air can circulate under the machine. Though that might not help when patio blogging.
About four years ago I was writing a letter to a local (conservative but rational – since retired) columnist responding to his editorial. I had finished it, had no backup, and lost the whole damned Fracking thing. (Got to keep up with the modern curse words. That’s from Battlestar Galactica. You probably don’t know that. ;-} )
Anyway, I rewrote it when I calmed down, and never heard back from the columnist. Until, that is, I read his column the following Sunday. He wrapped his column around my letter, starting off with “This is the argument on the other side. It was best expressed by * * (me) * *.”
I’m still proud of that one. My rewrite was about a third as long as the original version, but captured all the critical information.
So after cursing, rewrite. It’ll probably be better written than the first was. [And you write well as is.]
Save the expletives and focus on the funding question. Start right now- NO FUNDS FOR DEMS UNTIL…….!
What will be lost if this doesn’t work? Nothing. What can be won if the loss of funding forces the dem controllers are forced to either change or leave– the Party!!!!!
It appears to be NOW or NEVER! Start now- Pledge – no funds until the party supports its supporters!
The party IS supporting its supporters. Or at least the ones who count.
That ain’t the progressives, hasn’t been since Truman’s time (if then), and it never will be again until there are major changes in the campaign financing and election laws… which will not happen in this age of the Republic.
With the exception of Soros, there is nobody in the progressive ranks who has a tenth of the money required to get the attention of anyone high enough in the ranks to make a difference in policy.
Pack the run bags, gas the vehicles, and map your escape route. It’s getting VERY close to that time.
On a lighter thought, better your laptop overheats and loses your post vs BooMan overheating and losing his mind. On the other hand, BooMan probably does grizzly quite well.
prove the DLCers, the Hillary crowd, and the Carville crowd right! YEAH! cut off Howard Dean’s nose to assuage your own egos!
Way to go!
Force the D’s to turn to big Business for dough, undermining all that Governor Dean and the Great Orange Satan® has started and built upon.
yeah, just like Paul Begala said…..to paraphrase…”The first setback these so-called “netroots” types suffer, and we’ll see them dry up and blow away. They are no movement, they are just loudmouthes.”
I feel better having told two Democratic requests for donations “No way in %^&*.” I’ll change my mind some day, not today.
I feel better having bookmarked a couple of efforts to find primary opponents to weak Dem candidates.
I also feel better having totally told off a friend, who said he was now “independent.” What do you want, another Alito? (That farm house in France might look even better if that happens.)
There are many ways to respond. But abandoning the pressure isn’t among them.

Podium Cooler
ok. I had a fan issue that was never resolved. Would overheat and then just blink off. Can’t tell you how much data and words I lost with that thing.
1st PC/laptop I ever bought from a retailer rather than direct from the manufacturer too…
you probably have a saved copy.
Have you managed to restart machine?
I wasn’t writing in Word. I was patio blogging and it is really hot in the Sun.
Other programs have auto-backup mechanisms. I write a lot in Xemacs. It auto-saves frequently. I have too many backups for many files.
Perhaps your program does the same…

It’s a message from the Cosmos.
Save your electrons; it’s not worth it.

Check the operation of the fan(s). I’ve had very good luck with Compaqs. Warranty?

Take your ball and go home.

The first setback??? It’s been six years of setbacks and we are still here!!!!!
