The Pledge
I believe in the immediate withdrawal of all foreign combat troops from the nation of Iraq. I believe in using my blog, in whole or in part, as a tool toward this end.

Good luck. I’d like to translate the million blogs into millions of letters to congresspersons. If enough of us get involved, perhaps Congress will be persuaded this president has to be impeached
Being for Peace would naturally mean being anti- all wars. Not only this present war. And I don’t mean this as a criticism, only as a logical reason for any efforts.
Peace ;o)
Again, not a criticism, but this comment by Nanette, back in February says it all for me. I do understand though that the Congress, democrats included, is not anti- all war. Hell, most aren’t even anti-Iraq war, and they are prone to dismissing the real anti-war message. They’ve already dismissed the message sent in the elections that gave them the power they now hold.
Anyway, here’s Nanette’s comment.
Thanks
“I am anti-war. Not only anti this war, but anti all wars. HOWEVER… I will not coalesce with people and groups around being “anti-war” – well, not primarily.
I coalition with people who are pro social justice, pro environmental justice, pro human rights, pro human dignity, pro anti-racism, pro anti-imperialism and exceptionalism, and things such as this… with the knowledge that being pro these things necessitates also being anti war, and working to find and build solutions and alternatives. Changers.
The reverse isn’t true, however… you can be as anti this or the next war as you like, and still not give a hoot about any of that other stuff. That’s one place where many divisions arise, in my opinion.
Anyway, I think the divisions are perfectly fine. I believe the party operative blogs will be one vehicle (or group of vehicles) heading in one direction, following the routes they wish to go, making inroads in the party and so on and that those who have other views or goals will move in directions that they feel they need to go. And that’s okay”.
I can understand some people not liking the idea. But it supports a position that is a baby step towards the best goal. (No war ever!) And I could never say that I was completely and totally against all war. I think going to war agasinst the Nazis was justified by their aggression and their inhumane treatment of those they conquered. No amount of being “against all wars” would have stopped that.
Contrast that with the flip-flop of ethical positions concerning Iraq. If you are for most of those other social issues than it is logical to be against the Iraq invasion and occupation. This coalition is an implied statement of support for those social issues listed above to a certain extent.
But that is just my humble opinion.
It took me a couple of minutes to find this post since it had disappeared from the “recent list”. Yer welcome Stephen D., and thank you!
