Can someone unload the watermelon from the back of this thing?
Say hello to the newest member of the Frog Pond
My answer to the question: My parents and I got stuck at the top of an observation tower at an amusement park in Dallas, Texas just as night fell and fireworks across the city erupted in all directions. It was breathtaking.
that’s better
Hiya Manny. I’ll take 27 daiquiris please.
My most remembered 4th was when my youngest daughter was 10 y.o. and visiting me for the summer. We went to a small state park that had a small lake. Around the lake were booths and entertainment. People had chairs and blankets spread all around. Just before the fireworks everyone heads to the edge of the lake. When the fireworks started they were so close that your body shook when they exploded. They just seemed to keep going on and on, and when they finished, my daughter told me it was the best time she ever had.
Hope you’re having a good 4th.
thanks for sharing that memory, now about those 27 daiquiris š
Although we don’t see your temperatures, it’s hot here. I’ve got to have something to cool off with. š
AQ warm welcome
cruz, that brought the biggest smile to my face! I loved the one guy who pretty much tackled him to collect the free hug. Good stuff.
Hi Manny! I saw this a while ago and saved it for the welcome wagon, but since I always see it late, and there is always more than a hundred comments, never had the chance to plug it without getting lost.
There is a whole bunch of the abrazos gratis and free hugs at Youtube (it seems there is a movement that does it) Glad you liked it.
Now I am off to watch Argentina Paraguay!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ah yes, Copa América, I’ve been watching too.
Was at a Oaxacan restaurant a couple of weeks ago during the Copa Oro championship – let’s just say that it was a somber ending to the evening.
Absolutely wonderful. Thanks for posting it.
((((hugs!))))
You welcome SN!! It is interesting to see how strangers interact sometimes. This world can be a wonderfull place sometimes :0)
tough call manny….maybe the one, many years ago, at the county fair along the banks of lake cumberland, in kentucky, after a day of fishing w/ my bro and late grandfather…dunking the clown in the dunk-tank, 4 out of 4 with a baseball, got an extra throw for sinking him…missed on #5….used to have a pretty good arm…:{)
or the one coming back from a long and tedious road trip…driving the 2 lane, back roads into town….watching the fireworks from all the little towns around as l drove by, and getting back in time to see the finale from the local display as l drove into home…a spectacular homecoming as it were [pulled over and watched]….perhaps my favorite of all.
paz y bendición en este día de fiesta mi amigo

sounds wonderful – back at my hometown they still do the old-time carnival games, which I love. Simplistic yet without all the noise that drowns out the appreciation of what we have around us.
have a fantastic day
mt. rushmore…approach
clik for lg. v.
enjoy yawl!
later….gotta go do a bit of celebratory inbibing…:{)

Hello Manny, Family Man, ..I hope everyone has a day today that you will look back on with joy and happiness..and now could I get more than a few of those watermelon daiquiris please pretty please.
hi ink! the same wish goes for you. we’re having a quiet day today indoors – supposed to be up to 112. I considered going to the fireworks tonight, but I’m just not feeling up to it after everything that’s been going on politically.
Nothing will keep those daiquiris away, though! š
Hi ink. Hope you’re having a good day and holiday.
I’m having a very quiet day at home and I’m liking it. š
Given my health problems I’ve spent the last few years playing hermit on the 4th but have enjoyed it actually….I usually take the time to read the Declaration of Independence and look up some history stuff relating to the 4th-like drafts of Constitution were written on hemp paper…anyway so far today has been nice and quiet but I’m still waiting for an infusion of those daiquiris.
I think the way most are bought up, that the holiday means eating and fireworks. That’s really good on what you do for the 4th.
Sorry to hear about your health problems. Maybe that infusion of daiquiris will get you to feeling better.
Sorry, I have none to offer. The result of, shall we say, an unusual upbringing. (A strange, tortured tale for another day.) The older I get, the more I see how much I/we missed.
We’ll have to make sure our son has some.
Just make sure you don’t light an M-80 when it’s in his front pocket. I saw on CNN that that’s a bad idea. Who knew?
Hmm, sounds like good advice.
to interrupt their breaking news coverage of the WWE wrestler saga.
Home-owned fireworks are outlawed here for obvious reasons but it sounds like the commercial displays are going to march forwards. I’m sure fire crews will be getting plenty of workouts tonight and tomorrow. There’s just something about sparklers š
Hiya Boran and SN.
Boran any time off with the family is a good time, but I do think SN has a good point. š
Yes, you’re right.
We’re going out to see the neighbor’s fireworks later on.
With the “extreme drought” here, they’ve banned all fireworks. First time I can remember the town not having a display.
hi b2 – i’ve always been partial to trailblazers and from what you’ve shared in the past, you’re making sure the boran-boy is getting a great fill of memories to share with others someday.
off topic, but today must be ’80s flick rerun-day’ – the Lost Boys, Goonies, Back to the Future Marathon – it’s very strange.
We’ve been watching some strange retro stuff too as it’s been raining on and off here.
Hi B2-I had none to offer either and like you said for a less than stellar childhood and adulthood also…then again for me not having a standout 4th of July was the least of my problems.
Yep, there are more important things.
Hi Folks!!!!
Happy Fourth of July
One of my favorite 4th of July’s was in 1976. America was celebrating being 200 years old and I was 17. There was a big parade- well at least for Tarboro, North Carolina- there were floats and people dressed as Betsy Ross, all the different founding fathers, and of course Uncle Sam.
Since we lived right off main street we had a cookout with lots of friends so we could watch the parade. Mom barbecued chicken, cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and of course we had all the fixins. LOL There was potato salad, coleslaw, potatoes cooked in red sauce, and strawberry short cake or chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert. I remember Mom had the Coke plant deliver an ice chest on a stand with 3 cases of cokes- in bottles thank you- delivered so things would be easier. The adults were drinking gin rickies with cherries and just enough of the cherry juice added to make it look like pink lemonade to the nosy neighbors.
That night we all drove over the high school foot ball field to watch the bicentennial pageant and fireworks. The costumes had been ordered from New York and were stunning. The performances were great or at least we thought so. Instead of having the high school band play(thank goodness as I would have had to been in uniform), they had hired a professional band. They had scenes from history performed by some of the best actors in our community theatre groups and songs for us all to join in.
The evening ended with a fireworks display that lasted at least an hour and was considered to be one of the best anyone had seen. We were all in the stands with our sparklers and singing and cheering and celebrating Freedom as that was only known in America.
I also wanted to share my two podcast I did today.

Taking Back Texas Episode 6
hi refi! thanks for your story, I felt like I was there, right down to the pink ‘lemonade’ š
Sorry I missed this thread yesterday. I was telling my friends yesterday that one of my favorite childhood memories was also in 1976. It was the country’s 200th b-day and my 10th b-day. My parents took me to the parade and bought me ice cream and the fireworks were fabulous. My 16th b-day was also killer, but that is a story for another time.
hi K! Happy belated birthday. Hope the summer is treating you and Kamakid well.
Hey Manny,
Here`s last night`s glare over the battlements.
This is from my yard looking down on Paradise Cove.
The fireworks are set off from a barge anchored in the cove.
Hey Head.
Nice setting and picture.
helloooo knucklehead – great pic. I’m visualizing a giant owl peering through a wood knot, searching for prey.
Thanks FM & Manny.
I have dozens of these.
I figured out how to get consistent results when shooting them.
Very cool!
