One little known tidbit from Yearly Kos is that Fmr. Sen. Mike Gravel got his gold Cadillac towed from outside the hotel. His burly aide blamed it on the Secret Service and was annoyed that Hyatt management didn’t seem to have a clue who the hell Gravel was or that he was running for president.
I think that’s a lot more interesting than the trollish soldier who stalked Wesley Clark and spammed the vets’ conference..
Another thing I learned about Gravel: he thinks our tax system “sucks”. He told me that very loudly over the sound system at the Teamster’s dinner. I think it’s very cool of the Teamster’s to buy a bunch of netroots peace activists a burger and a beer. But I’m not sure I can really understand this country anymore.
The Teamsteers want the figure out what the hell is going on with all those bloggers, so they invite a few of us to beer and burgers and try to figure us out. Hopefully we’ll learn to work together for common causes in the future.
Gravel can say and do whatever he wants, he knows he isn’t going to win. That flat tax idea is way out of right wing, and a really bad idea. He has already said that he doesn’t have to worry about implementing his ideas. Speaking of it was pretty amusing of him to say that he would do his own blogging.
What does John Edwards think he is doing when he says that his wife is going to be his hired blogger? A) he can’t pay his wife, B) the first lady had a lot on her plate and won’t really have time to do her own blogging. Is he admitting that he doesn’t really think much of his change of winning, if so what is he running for this time?
I’m not sure which Teamsters were your hosts, but Local 705 came out against the war in Iraq long before it ever started. The first time I ever heard Greg Palast speak it was at Teamster City in Chicago.
So let us see. I realize that it is really rather humorless but what the hell- Chi town must have been real nice but how about those dems? Really hit it out of the park. Fuck FISA, screw the public, to hell with the constitution, Lets focus on the importatnt things.
While i scribble this I am watching a rerun of the nempoodle bullshits about how we all are going to Mobilize the world regarding Darfur along with the rest of the bullshit. I wonder just how long it will take to “get this in gear”!!! HA! another joke.
Romed burned this past week and we all failed. so, screw the govt, scre the world, and screw the blogs. It is obviously all a game.
What was that movie- Oh yeah- War Games!!!!!!!!!!!!
tic tac ………….
A gold Cadillac?!! Ick.
Interestingly enough, BooMan, the Teamsters was the group that splurged at ykos 2006 for those 64mb flash drives. I still use mine today.
Oh, so THAT’S what the joke was about at the Saturday night keynote gathering (when someone kept announcing that a gold Cadillac was parked illegally and was about to be towed).
There was some discussion about the alliance between netroots and big labor on Sunday at the brunch (which was a question-comment-open thread session with Markos, Hunter, and a number of other prominent bloggers and open mics in the audience). On some issues, the progressive netroots and the big unions are very much in agreement — but on some issues such as energy policy and environment, as Adam Siegal (?)pointed out, labor is usually on the other side. I don’t think the differences are insurmountable, however. And coalitions aren’t always unanimous on all issues — democracy is kinda like that.
We’ve still got a long way to go.
But it was really great to get to meet so many other people!
