Spring has sprung the grass has ris’ and the boidies are out in full force: choosing mates, building nests, picking out china patterns, etc.
The Tasmanian Silvereye (Zosterops lateralis lateralis) migrates back from it’s winter on the mainland. The 200 kilometer crossing is a pretty impressive feat for such a small bird (although nowhere near as impressive as hummingbirds crossing the Gulf of Mexico). It’s been suggested that they island hop – which would make the greatest stretch about 60 kilometers (40 miles).
