New day, new cafe.
Good morning everyone!
Not that I’m prejudiced or anything, but I think “mom’s Taxi” is reason #67 of “Why Pets are better than Children”.
I think it’s also on the “Why Cucumbers are better than Men” list, but I’m not sure about the ranking.
Okay – you got quite some lists there, close to x-rated, I’d say 😉
I remember my mom having a copy of the latter back in the late 70’s, so it can hardly be X-rated. Probably more like PG-13.
btw, I used to have a ‘cucumbers are better than men’ poster in my room…where did I go wrong? 🙂
I was happy enough to do it (CBtE wanted to stay at the new school for lunch and part of the afternoon Saturday, which added an extra trip, plus none of the baseball game times coincided with anything else), but boy it’s exhausting.
Next week all I have to do is attend the ball games, because it’s their dad’s weekend. Oh, and listen to him whine about driving them everywhere they need to go.
And then there are times when their superiority is questionable.
Such as tomorrow, when I’m taking Luna with me to finish the Greens’ mural at the University. Let’s hope her lack of fingers deter her from “finger painting” anything, including herself.
Must remember to bring lots of water and towels.
Good morning, CG – and Andi & keres in the old cafe!
Cool, gray morning in NY.
Morning ask. You’ll have to look at the last lounge to see how my day went.
On the plus side, the weather was georgous. On the minus side, I spent most of the day in a tunnel (painting a portion).
All this talk of cucumbers and tunnels.
Good morning! Back from the Berkshires?
Off – I got distracted by e-mails.
Yes, back last night – had a great walk in a nature preserve yesterday (Saturday was rainy/cloudy – we went bowling).
My system is still working on its overnight backup and it makes everything freaking slow so this is a drive-by ‘hello’ and ‘see ya’.
Seems appropriate for a Monday, doesn’t it?
Did you have a nice weekend? Irt’s freezing here this morning; even the heater came on today.
Crystal clear and in the fifties! Wow, it’s the first time I’ve been able to stay outside for more than 5 minutes all summer. Keeping my fingers crossed that the heat is over.
On another topic: I missed the Emmy’s but heard that they censored Sally Field for saying if mothers ruled the world there wouldn’t be any goddamn wars.
Glad it finally cooled down where you are – a few days of rain now would be even better, I guess.
FOX network at its best, I suppose.
Glad you’re having cooler weather. It’s downright chilly here.
Cool and nice. I’m leaving those windows open.
Morning, boran!
Yes, it is absolutely lovely today – the clouds are gone and we’re up to 59 now.
Hi boran!
My dial-up connection is incredibly cranky so I’m not going to be hanging around much. And I’m out of town Wednesday and Thursday. Hope everyone has a pleasant next few days.
Good morning, Andi!
Sorry about the cranky connection – always annoying.
Have a good trip!
I’m sorry your connection is cranky. And I’m sorry you’re traveling the next few days too – I know how much you like doing that.
I have to go into the office for a few hours tomorrow, and I’m dreading it.
Good morning all, another lovely cool day here.
without Andi to lead off with the fist cafe comment of the day…
Good morning on YAHD!
Just saw this now, I thought I was first to post this morning. Maybe she’ll come by.
I think we were almost posting simultaneously.
Good morning, everyone!
We made it to YADH.
Hi ask!
YAHD, and I actually have to go in to the office for a few hours today (a meeting and lunch with the team of folks I’m working with over the next month). What re you up to on this fine Spetember day?
My sympathies for the need for an office trip.
I’m planning a slacking day today, enjoy the weather – go down to the pier and read a book.
That sounds like a nice wayto spend the day.
My office trip does have the benefit of seeing some of my old colleagues from previous jobs – some of whom I haven’t seen since early 2005. That part will be fun.
Getting out of the house early and wearing office clothes, not so much. 🙂
Seeing old colleagues (if they are of the good kind) will more than make up for the attire requirements.
Enjoy!
Good morning all. Another nice cool day here in the Valley. I must stop and get a photo of the mist rising off the Hudson tomorrow.
Good morning, boran!
And the forecast is for another week of sun. Great fall weather.
Hi ask! That sounds good to me.
Hi boran!
Howz it goin’, CG? Have the cabins settled into their new school routines?
They’re getting there. Just went to a parents thingy at CBtE’s school tonight, CBtY’s thingy is Monday, but so far so good. A welcome change from last year’s drama for CBtE.
How is b2boy’s teacher this year?
Hello everyone, how is everyone doing, I just wanted to drop in here to tell you that Sangreal79, my Iraqi friend has gotten asylum in the US, hurray, I told her she must be among the first as there haven’t been many. She is very happy, and relieved as well, and by the way she is also now married to an American.
I hope you all are well and happy.
That’s great. Is she still in Kansas?
Yes she is still in Kansas and still in school for one more year. It’s been a rough ride for her with some gliltches in the process that had her very worried, but finally the good news came.
I was thinking about her the other day and wondering how those glitches had all worked out for her. I’m so happy to see that things are going well (and it’s a treat to see you posting here, btw). Family keeping you busy?
Hi Diane,
Long time!
Thanks for the update on sangreal. Lucky indeed, I think the total number is still below 10,000 (aggregate since the start of the war). A shame compared to e.g., the Swedes.
How are you?
Hi Ask, yes indeed longtime my friend, and I don’t think the number is 10,000, last I heard it was under 100. That was in July I think, and during the Kennedy hearings earlier this year the number was under 25.
Nice to hear from you Ask.
I started out this morning reading the diary by AG, and almost didn’t post, but then decided what the heck, it’s always safe in the cafe. LOL.
I think I read somewhere that the objective was to receive 7,000 before the end of 2007.
However, it is failing miserably.
(The link is from January, but I don’t think the numbers have increased much since then.)
As Iraqi refugees flee, let’s not forget Vietnam
Hi diane101 and thanks for the news about Sangreal79! I’m very glad to hear she is doing so well.
Good morning everyone when Thurs. gets here;-)
Shouldn’t it be Friday?
Good morning, CG!
Wishful thinking…
Good morning all. Another beautiful day in a string of them. Guess that means it will rain all weekend.
Yay!
Yay!
and my dial-up connection is behaving itself (for the moment) in celebration.
I’m already ready for a nap, though (I didn’t get home till about 8:30 last night which made for a very long day).
Got any big plans for the weekend?
I understand the need for a nap…I took one yesterday. It’s tough getting back into the routine of school, work, kid activities, and taxi-driving. 🙂
So far, just baseball games on both days, a trip or two down to the city, and some organizing of things around the house. Oh, and probably some lawn care.
How about you?
Well, normally we’d have no plans but Saturday we will probably go to this. We love Carrie Newcomer and we have Tom Paxton albums that are older than you. 😉
Good morning, ladies!
Another beauty here, 66 now – going to 83.
Hi ask! We’re having a nice string of good weather, aren’t we? CBtY has a half day today, so we’ll even get to enjoy it. I’m thinking an outing to the tennis courts might be in order.
Big plans with the asklets this weekend?
Hi CG,
I think they have big plans…
I’ll probably only see them Sunday.
Nice day here, too. Damn.
(I don’t know how people stand living in deserts. Not having rain is making me crazy.)
Good morning all. Gotta run, on this beautiful late summer day.
Yay!
Hey, I made a poem!
Good morning!
A compact poem.
Wow – sleeping until 7.30, feels good.
Mmmmmm, until 8:00 even better!
Good morning Andi, Ask and Indianadem.
Sleeping until 10:00 am is even better and better. I hope everyone has been doing well. We’re just getting over a slight case of food poisoning. Everyone is well now, and I’ve been so very thankful we have more than one bathroom, eeeewwwwww. 🙂
This w/e will be catching up on all the house work and lawn care I let go while not feeling well. We’re supposed to get rain today, so maybe if I hold out long enough, I can bypass the lawn.
Hope everyone is having a good w/e.
Hi Family Man! Sorry to hear about your bad fortune. I had it once, years ago, from some seafood. It was a memorable experience I would rather not repeat (sending thoughts of sympathy).
To help foster the get well spirit, here’s a motivational poster for your family.
H/T to PeWi at EuroTrib.
Hi ID.
Thanks for the wishes and that poster has just made my day. I haven’t gone over to EuroTrib as much as I should, but I can see the message of Slackatude is spreading. 🙂
Hope you and Mrs. ID are having a good w/e.
Hi, FM!
You’ve been ‘awol’ – busy days with relatives?
Oops – I missed the food poisoning part.
Hope you all are doing better!
Hiya ask.
Everything is well now, and yes I’m still busy with the rels. I hope everything in “ask world” has been going good.
We’re finally getting a bit of a respite from the heat, and I’m just waiting for winter. I can’t believe they’re already showing snow in some regions on the weather channel. Now if I could just some of that down here. 🙂
Good to hear.
I’m heading out – meeting up with curly & some friends for Yum Kippur.
See ya later ask. Enjoy yourself and have a great time.
Hey FM….I hate to say I told you so…..but that roadkill is bad shit. Stick to the pimento cheese and grits.
Glad you’re feeling better. And don’t let the rels cook anymore.
Hi SN.
I just made up a big pot of road kill stew the other day. The possum was……, lets say aged. Everything else smelled pretty fresh though. Of course that slight taste of burnt tire rubber always adds a little something. 🙂
I have a cajun friend who has a special alligator alfredo that he makes. Nothing like alligator meat when you’re feeling a little queasy.
How’s life in Hooterville? Things in North Hooterville are still smokin hot. Wish it would cool off.
I’ve never had alligator, but frog and snail aren’t bad.
Its started cooling down here some. We haven’t been out of the 80’s for about a week, and we’re getting some rain. Come Feb. you’ll be saying you’re ready for summer again, but not me. 😉
Nope….I do not look forward to summer at all anymore. I dread it. Ick. Yuck.
It was in the 70s for a few days but now it’s back to around ninety and humid, which looks weird because the leaves are starting to turn and it sort of smells like autumn.
West Hooterville is steamy after a brief respite last week. I stood on the bluffs of the Ohio at Madison Thursday afternoon imagining the mirage of a paddlewheeler churning its way downriver. Some of the sugar maples are beginning to show some color.
Hi Indiandem!!!! I spent Saturday riding buses all over town to get a doggy door for the Diva’s LOL you can see pictures if them at http://www.myspace.com/refinish69
refinish69! Its great to see you here! I hope you locate some furniture soon. Most of ours is vintage yard sale & cast offs from friends more well-to-do than we are;-)
The Diva Dogs are looking good!
Thanks.. I am getting there slowly and will get my stuff-what little i saved- out of storage next month. I will get things one piece at a time as far as new furniture so I can get what I really want
(alphabetical order — no favorites)
I know you all aren’t here now but I figure the sentiment will linger (or maybe it’s not the sentiment and I just need to take a shower).
Good morning, Andi!!!! I thought if I used enough exclamation marks I would feel the groove of being up. Um…not so much.
It’s muggy out already. 🙁
It’s Sunday — you’re supposed to be groggy and triping over the cats while grumpily feeling your way toward the coffee pot.
Yeah, we’re heading for another hot and rainless day — apparently the arrival of Fall isn’t heralding any changes yet (but the forecast does look a little better later in the week).
I’m going to be running the airport shuttle today. Taking O in a few mintues, then going back later in the day to pick up his wife who is returning and who I just dropped off on Friday. They finished a bunch of canvasses for sale in Cleveland and I need to take pics of them this morning before they fly away.
take pics and post them!
Okay. There is one that is fantastic. Fidel Castro and a belly dancer- about 4 ft. x 6 ft.
Oh boy, something to look forward to!
And now I’m off to the woods.
Ta.
That’s exciting. (The sale of their art, not the airport runs).
I’m going walking, organizing more stuff, working on a paper, and going to a baseball game today. I thought weekends were supposed to be relaxing?
Good morning, Andi and SN!
Sorry to hear of your muggy conditions – we’re in for beautiful fall weather again. Yesterday’s humidity is gone – a sunny 64 now. curly and I will have breakfast in the park. See you later.
Good morning Andi, Second Nature, ask, CabinGirl and Family Man!
I’ve been porch-sitting, watching the cat chase half-grown squirrels and sipping French Roast (me, not the cat). The temp is quite pleasant, about the same as yours, ask.
Good morning ID.
I just took George out and our temp is at 72. It’s pretty comfortable outside at the moment. We had about 10 minutes of rain yesterday, but they’re predicting more today. Hopefully it will last longer.
We’re still very dry here and at least one of the fire chiefs is considering an outdoor burning ban. Rain is predicted for mid-week, so I guess we’ll see if any relief comes then. Hope you get yours today.
I saw on the news last night they lifted the burn ban on six counties down here. Hopefully ya’ll will get that rain mid-week.
Good morning Andi, SN and ask.
I’m still half asleep and waiting on the coffee maker to make. I’ll be back once I’ve got some caffeine in me.
Detail:
I love the detail on the skirt.
looks back to summer.
because “Arggh, Monday” sounds just right.
Remind me never to babysit someone else’s dog overnight. It was like a circus on the bed…and not in a good way. Hopey is so jealous of any attention I give my son’s dog and they both HAVE to sleep on the bed and they spent most of the night jockeying for position, trying to be closest to my face.
Oh sorry, you surprised me — I sure wasn’t expecting you here so early.
Sounds like a good reason to go sleep in the extra bedroom — with the door closed.
Good morning, Andi and SN!
That’s hilarious.
I’m sure she’d be happy to move the show to your place so you could share in the fun. 😉
It is totally an Argh monday. Or is that Ugh Monday?
Good morning everyone!
New cafe coming up in a minute…
