Congress is so far behind on passing legislation that they may work past their target adjournment date of October 26th straight through to Christmas.

The approval rating in a poll yesterday was 11%. After the mess today, I wonder what it is now?
Congress better stay in session without recess until January 2009.
No recess. No recess appointments.
Why can’t they get that?
oh horrors, they have to work straight through to christmas. at least they’re doing important work like condemning MoveOn and its members for airing an ad that was mean.
I have some news: a lot of us have to work on christmas itself, for a lot less than $165,200 per year. and a lot of us wish we had work of ANY kind, and would be grateful for a salary.
boo fucking hoo for congress. boo fucking hoo. they have to work straight through to christmas. oh the humanity.
can someone pass me a can of gasoline? I think I may have to light myself on fire now.
I understand your sentiment. Actually, the reason I bring this up is because it relates to something I have been saying off and on over the last month. Essentially, the Dems have put themselves a month behind schedule because they spent much of the spring and early summer debating Iraq. That’s fine. But it now has consequences. And a lot of people are saying that the Dems should make the Republicans eat up numerous calendar days filibustering. Well…they can do that. But we have to understand the whole situation. And they are already talking about working all the way to Christmas without adjourning…and that is w/o tossing away days for filibusters.
And we do need to consider that when we make requests of congress to take certain drastic actions. It will mean something has to give somewhere else. Most likely it means that we have to pass continuing resolutions to fund all aspects of the government on last year’s budget (meaning no accounting for inflation).
That doesn’t necessarily mean the Dems shouldn’t do it anyway. But it’s information people should have.
what the hell do i care about that?
i get 2 weeks of vacation, 12 sick days, and 12 personal days. they could have given up their august recess. i didn’t get one of those.
It’s not about how much time they have off. It’s about them being out of time.
all the more reason for me to be pissed off about wasting time (not to mention my taxes) on bullshit “waaaah move on is MEAN” votes.
why the fuck did that even make it to the floor??
A-men. They wasted half a day on the moveon bullshit. Where’s the vote on “waaah, Fox news is mean”? Who has nominal control of the Senate, anyway?
for that matter where’s the vote on Boner’s “small price to pay” comment. Wasn’t that just as obscene?
Boy oh boy did I let leahy’s office have it today. And webb’s. and casey’s.
Okay, I talked to people in the senate leadership and this is what I can ascertain. The Senate was operating under a unanimous consent agreement in which the Dems and Republicans could each bring 5 amendments to the DOD bill. The GOP decided to waste on on MoveOn. That is why it was allowed on the floor. I’m still waiting on one follow-up question to clarify something, but that is the nut of it.
Y’all need to take a look at the poll on http://www.sfgate.com. It’s asking whether the demonstration for the Jena 6 is justified or not. Yes is currently at 43%, while No is at 57%. It’s pretty frightening.
The poll is on the lower left hand column.
They need to prioritize.
Funding government departments means nothing if the department isn’t working, or is corrupt, or is politicized.
If they don’t send money to the Pentagon, the warmongers will have to choose between bringing the troops home or letting go of the experimental toys (microwaves, sonics, lasers, robots shooting hundreds of rounds, and the armed space platforms). The embezzled and vanished money and weapons might even reappear.
If they don’t send money to the DoJ, maybe they’ll get the documents and appearances they’ve requested.
If they don’t fund Cheney, maybe we’ll find out just what the secretive bastard has been up to in his basement.
There is no need to hold a single investigation or hearing on doped sports-stars or sex-crazed congress-critters or shoddy contractors until >>>after<<< they impeach Cheney, Bush, and Gonzales and anybody else guilty of breaking the Constitution. Sex, drugs, and embezzlement aren’t going away and they aren’t immediate problems.
Clean-up must start at the top.
IMPEACH NOW, and deal with the rest next year.
