Finally wrestled away the remote, coming in 15 minutes late.
Obama thinks we should not be talking about attacking Iran when we haven’t tried a diplomatic approach.
Clinton declares that Bush can attack Iran without permission. Then she says he has no authority and that ‘we’ will not permit him to attack Iran.
She also says that we need sanctions.
The sanctions give us a stick in negotiations.
Hillary wants diplomacy, refuses to talk about a red line Iran cannot cross.
Edwards wants to know why Hillary voted for Kyl-Lieberman when it looks like it was written by neo-cons and gives them everything they want.
He said he’s learned his lesson and we cannot give Bush an inch. We have to be unambiguous that we will not attack Iran.
How are we standing up to the president?
Richardson says he is the only one who has negotiated with a foreign country and that he will negotiate with Iran without conditions. We can work with moderates. Resolution (Kyl-Lieberman) is saber-rattling. We must talk to North Korea and Iran.
Potentially need sanctions, but need Europe and Russia.
Kucinich: there is no basis for war with Iran. We have a bunch of Democratic enablers who keep saying all options are on the table.
Preemption is illegal under international law. Iraq is illegal, even planning for war in Iran is illegal.
We need to impeach.
But this is the crazy guy, right?
Hillary will you pledge to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon?
Hillary will pledge to do everything she can.
Edwards pledges to do everything responsible that he can.
Obama changes subject. We will not be governed by fear.
Biden: I pledge to keep us safe. Points out that Pakistanis have the real nukes. Shit is complicated, he’ll do all in his power to prevent a nuclear Iran.
Dodd: who is most qualified? Dodd is experienced. Can handle issues because he is experienced. Pakistan is the bigger issue. Dodd worked in El Salvador and Nicaragua, has the background to lead.
Richardson: I’ll make the pledge and I’ll do it through diplomacy.
Kucinich: all due respect, the media needs to be careful how you frame these questions, you were partly responsible for the fiasco in Iraq. The president’s rhetoric is out of control.
America must lead the way toward nuclear abolition.
Clinton: I absolutely oppose the war in Iraq but I do not oppose the wonderful fantabulous troops.
When she comes in she will have to START THE PLANNING to leave because she does not believe the planning has been done. We must get Iraqis to do more. Goes off on and on about all the people she will bring together to fan out across the world.
Iraq and Iran and Pakistan and Afghanistan are tinderboxes, everywhere in the world we have work to do.
Obama hammers Clinton on Kyl-Lieberman again.
Will convene a conference of Muslim leaders.
Obama is pointing out that he is not a co-author of this disaster and thought it was a bad idea from the beginning.
Edwards: if you believe that there should be troops in Iraq forevah then Clinton is your candidate.
Edwards: we cannot trust this president…if Bush invades Iran six months from now will we be wondering if only we knew then what we know now?
Hillary: these people are being mean to me, I never intend to bring troops home, like evah…
Actually, her voice was saying something else, but that is what she meant.
I haven’t watched but maybe one of the other debates; have they all been this contentious?
I feel like Hillary is pushing slightly leftward, at least with what she’s saying and how she’s saying it.
this is the most contentious.
Richardson is standing on for Hillary.
I know, he reminded me of the “Leave Brittney Alone!” guy just there.
I’m heading back to the other thread, and I’m staying there.
Until it gets bombed, anyway.
Didn’t see this until just before I had to step away.
