Ted Stevens should be in a penitentiary and Joe Lieberman should be in a sanitarium, so it’s amusing to see them have a little spat.
WASHINGTON — Alaska’s congressional delegation came out swinging against the latest version of a proposal to ban drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, although the bill has little chance of passage.
The legislation, introduced Wednesday night by Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., would designate the coastal plains region of ANWR as wilderness, effectively banning oil and gas exploration.
All three members of Alaska’s delegation condemned the bill. Sens. Lisa Murkowski, Ted Stevens and Rep. Don Young issued a joint statement vowing to defeat the proposed ban.
“We take all attacks on Alaska’s ability to develop its natural resources seriously,” said Aaron Saunders, a spokesman for Stevens. “Particularly when it’s extreme environmentalists from out of state who don’t understand our ability to contribute to American’s energy independence.”</blockquote
Joe Lieberman is not only an extreme warmonger, he’s an extreme environmentalist. Kinda funny.

OMG. Short memories Billy. He’ll be a lousy candidate and will run while keeping his senate seat warm.
but please ,please do us a favor he’s yours – take him.
Lieberman is just trying to hang on to some facsimile of liberalism, when everyone knows he has gone over to the other side a long time ago.
Seen this time and again: liberal on domestic issues, Bush conservative on foreign policy. We have to get rid of these confused Democrats if we are ever going to make headway in renewing ourselves.
And everything to do with imperialistic conquest and AIPAC whoring. Without the oil excuse, why would we be meddling in the Islamic lands? There are plenty of other countries with despotic leaders, slavery, drugs, genocide… but if they don’t have oil, we don’t invade and occupy. Israel is quite happy to let us bleed to death for their supposed safety, but even they know that Middle America requires a few layers of justification.
“our ability to contribute to American’s energy independence.”
That is the key sentence. By framing it as a warmongering issue: “attacks”, all parties move drilling (real or potential) to a military act.
Alaska has geysers. Lots of them. If that delegation really was concerned about energy independence, the leaders would be embracing all the alternative forms of renewable energy.
LIE-berman is helping with the framing of a strawman. He can’t be trusted to actually care one whit over whether this planet survives his lifetime or gets burnt into irradiated slag.
