Thank you to everyone that donated money toward a new laptop. My old one died on Christmas Eve. I did a little research and went shopping today. I picked out a Sony VAIO notebook, and this thing is pretty sweet. It’s running Vista, and despite all the horror stories, I really like it. It has a lot of the Mac features I enjoy with a PC keyboard and logic. Kind of the best of both worlds. Thanks again!!

Good luck with it. I still have an ancient Sony laptop (windows 98) that runs perfectly. Sony is definitely one of the better pc manufacturers, hence the greater cost.
yeah, I still can’t figure out why the computer was $700 cheaper where I got it than across the street. It actually wound being the same price or cheaper than the HP’s and Dells for the same amount of RAM etc.
Old computer (yep, the left click button wore out completely):
New computer:
That’s the same Compaq that I’m using right now.
it was pretty good but it overheated all the damn time.
Very kewl BooMan! Enjoy!
OK here is what you better do with great caution in Vista: using the disk clean-up utility. Some users (including myself) have seen their hard-drives corrupted after using this little utility. The Vista utility is different from the the one you’re used to from XP and before, in that it gives extra options on what you want cleaned. If you check an innocuous-looking box called delete archived error messages… the awful awful happens and u need to reinstall Vista. That in any case is what happened to me. Other than that the aero look is nice and it loads faster than xp. But I back up daily now…
good to know, thanks for the warning.
i clean my Vista running computer with CCleaner no problems, new laptop for little over a month. Its finally nice to have a computer that can start up in less than a minute, duo-core..yeah.

we’re going round and round still on our replacements. Our specific problem is humidity and dust so we decided to check out the Panasonic Toughbooks. Anyone have any experience with them?
glad the coins helped, hate to think of your fingers tapping on empty space.
