Bennington Twp Violating Election Laws
Shiawassee Dems received a report that Bennington Twp is questioning people who do not have a photo ID. The person who reported states that he was harassed until he produced one. The worker even said, “If you don’t have a photo ID, how did you get here?”
I believe the law states that if a person does not have an ID, the election worker is supposed to ask if the voter lives in the precinct, and then ask if the voter will sign an affidavit.
This is a perfect example of why the Democratic party must do a better job of recruiting election officers. We spend too much time getting legal observers for election day and neglect the far more important task of recruiting election officers.
This is also a subject that has been neglected on blogs.
Voting in the primary yesterday, my driver’s license was examined by no less than three different people which seems to be overkill. It wasn’t until the last of the four people at the table who handed out the actual ballot that I was told I could put it away. If it was this complicated for someone with valid picture ID, I hate to think of what it was like for someone who didn’t have that ID. If the state is going to require it, they should provide free ID cards for everyone who doesn’t have a license or a passport. Our Sec. of State is going to try to comply with the Real ID requirements which makes me wonder how many hoops I’m going to have to jump through in order to get one of the new licenses.
