Welcome back.
This week we will be continuing with the new painting that I started last week, the Victorian house in Las Vegas, New Mexico, seen in the photo directly below. As usual, I’ll be using acrylics. This one is large for me, the canvas is 11×14.
When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.
This week it’s all about those heavy shadows on the building. I’ve added shadows to the left side of the building, covering most of that side. The shadows are done in a blue that is close in color to the roof. I’ll be doing some differentiation in the coming weeks. Also receiving attention is the porch, now also heavily shadowed below the roof.
I’ve added ochre to the porch posts, now better defined and contrasting well.
The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
That’s about it for now. I’ll see you next week. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.
Paint me a picture of your thoughts.
Nicely done boran2!
There is a hint of the windows in the shadows – how did you do that? I have never used acrylic paints. Can you thin or thicken them, affecting the degree of transparency?
Thanks. Acrylics can be thinned with water. In fact they can be made so thin as to have just the faintest hint of color. They are very flexible.
