Is it just me, or is there a disturbance in The Force? It seems like everyone is just a little on edge. And, no, I’m not just talking about politics or politicians.

I think it’s the fact that the media is declaring that this whole Wright issue is a ‘disaster’ for Obama…even though the only evidence they have for that is themselves.
They’re a bunch of fucking tools. How the hell did people like Joke Line, Ben Smith, and Mark Halperin becomes reporters who are taken seriously nowadays? What a sad state of affairs.
On a brighter note, tomorrow is my last class in college (ever!), with my last exam to be taken in 6 days. Graduation is in 3 weeks. Hard to believe that the 4 years are over so quickly, but it’s time to move on.
my condolences on the end of your college career.
I think the economy is starting to freak people out a little too.
Heh, condolences? Overall, I’m happy to be closing out my academic career. I’m a little nostalgic, but that’s life.
The economy does worry me as well. I have a job now…and I sure as hell hope I still have one in a year.
Your last day in college EVER!!! How sad. You are soooo going to miss Christmas break. Trust me on that.
But congratulations. It seems like only yesterday that you were a nerdy sophomore. And now you’re a cool graduate – with a job!
I’m sure I’ll miss the breaks…that’s about it, though.
And I don’t think I was that much of a nerd. Then again, a lot has changed in the last 6 months or so, so it’s hard to remember. 😛
um… let’s go back in time. You thought going out drinking with friends was a waste of time that would be better spent studying. And dating was a waste of time too. 🙂
Everything.
Tensions are running high, from politics through the economy through war through personal lives.
Deep times.

I don’t think so. Nobody at my office seemed more on edge than usual; in fact it was more laid back today than it’s been for a while, everybody was in a pretty good mood for a Monday. And I went to Target tonight and nobody seemed on edge there. And I talked to a couple of people on the phone tonight and they all seemed to be pretty calm and laid back.
Of course the Force might be disturbed only in Pennsylvania. Or maybe just around you … 🙂
The force in the blogosphere is muy mal.
On all sides.
I suggest a dose of Real Life. It’s a good reality check.
Is Lanny Davis real life?
In Real Life – most people don’t know who Lanny Davis is.
It’s better that way.
So Larry King Live is not real? Good to know.
Oh Larry King is real. But in Real Life most people don’t have time to sit around watching teevee all the time. Their workplaces don’t have teevees; the soccer games for their kids don’t have teevees; the grocery stores don’t have teevees; the line at the motor vehicle registration office doesn’t have teevees. And by this time of night most people in your time zone are in bed and asleep or at the night shift.
Only a small percentage of us have time to watch Larry King. Or comment on blogs.
Oooh, can I move there? We have TV everywhere here in LA. Grocery checkout line, gas pump, the bank, the bus…it’s disgusting, but keeps the sheeple placated, ya know.
California. What can I say?
But know this, we are the trendsetters. Everything hits LA first; we’re city-based lab rats. We’ve had all that stuff for a good 3 or 4 years now, so that means it should hit MO in 2011 – 2013. Just be prepared.
I assume that at some point someone is going to come up with the teevee version of Musak.
Um, isn’t that called cable news? It sure has lots of nothing but background noise…
no, no. Cable news might actually grab your attention – for instance when someone is shown ranting (usually a host of a cable news show).
The whole point of Musak is that it doesn’t grab anyone’s attention. It’s more annoying than real music but it’s easier to ignore it the entire time you are in the store – and in fact not even realize it was there. So Musak for teevee would be more annoying than cable news but easier to ignore the entire time you are in the store. At no point would you even be aware that you are watching it — all soothing monotones and bland images all the time.
But what about the fact that cable news makes me practically catatonic in short order?
But it creates the opposite effect in me – it makes me really annoyed. And when I’m at the airport and I can’t get away from it I’m in a very bad mood. If it was in a store – I would leave. I’ve actually left the bank when there was a long line just to get away from the teevee cable news. I’d rather come back later when I can get in and out faster.
See? Different effects on different people. Like real music has. For instance, I may like classical music, it may make you catatonic and it might drive BooMan out of the store.
The beauty of Musak was that it annoyed everyone but not enough to drive them out of the store. I believe that eventually there will be Musak teevee. It will annoy everyone who bothers to focus on it – but under ordinary circumstances it won’t be annoying enough to drive anyone out of the store.
It makes me mad. I choose not to turn on my TV at home, so when I’m in line at the grocery store and the person in front of me is riveted in one spot by watching a clip of a unappealing recipe it bugs. It’s too much.
Same at the gas station. They put those things on the flippin’ pumps. I’ve seen people spill gas because they’re enchanted by the pointless ads being spewed at them.
At the dealership where I used to get my car serviced, they knew if I was there and waiting, to turn off the TV. Why? Because I’d made life miserable for everyone else in the waiting room. At first, they used to have Fox on one TV and CNN on the other. I was loud disputing almost everything on the TV. Then they started switching it to soaps or some daytime game show. That didn’t help. Now, they just shut off the TV when I come in.
For me it’s all so obnoxious verging on 1984 or Fahrenheit 451 territory with all the TVs just blasting propaganda at the apathetic and ignorant masses. I usually bring a book or work on my phone when I’m on line. I do get a lot negative/derisive comments from fellow queue standers when I bring a book or work a crossword. But that is why God invented mp3 players.

you’re right.
I believe it’s called “cognitive dissonance”.
As in, you can’t have your world and eat it too. Or you can’t pay for war and everything else – that kinda stuff.
Mister Blue Meme makes an interesting observation at his place today: With unoccupied homes at record levels right now, there are approximately 24 unoccupied homes for every homeless person in the Unites States right now.
I don’t know for sure about everyone, but I noticed this morning during something billed as a “press conference” that Chimpy McFlightsuit seem to be very on edge and agitated, more so than in the past. In fact darn near outright hostile.
I’d think this was an extremely good thing if his hand weren’t on that big red button.
