McCain’s endorsement by religious nuts: UPDATED

Just how is John McCain getting away with endorsements from such extremist pastoral advisors, two of the most right wing warmongering preachers in America: the anti-Arab, anti-Palestinian, and Islamophobic, John Hagee and Rod Parsley. This alert which was just received from BraveNew Films, says: McCain’s “Spiritual Guide” Wants America to Destroy Islam.

We have all heard of Rev. John Hagee, the McCain supporter who said God created Hurricane Katrina to punish New Orleans for its homosexual sins. Well now we have Rev. Rod Parsley, the televangelist megachurch pastor from Ohio who hates Islam. According to David Corn of Mother Jones, Parsley has called on Christians to wage war against Islam, which he considers to be a “false religion.” In the past, Parsley has also railed against the separation of church and state, homosexuals, and abortion rights, comparing Planned Parenthood to Nazis.
Yes, there are Americans who actually listen to these nuts, and John McCain seems to be one of them. Click on:

It has not gone unnoticed that John McCain actively sought and received Parsley’s endorsement in the presidential race. McCain called Parsley “a spiritual guide,” even though he hasn’t said whether he shares Parsley’s anti-Islam views. That’s because the mainstream media refuses to ask or refuses to make the guilt-by-association charge that Obama was subjected to concerning Rev. Wright.

Since the media won’t question McCain about his deeply bigoted pastors, BraveNew Films has taken matters into its own hands, joining Mother Jones to present the truth about McCain’s pastors. McCain can’t be permitted to get away with aligning himself with religious leaders who’s called for an all-out war on Islam or, as in the case of Hagee, an all-out war against Iran and ultimately Palestinians.

It is for no small reason that McCain is courting these religious maniacs: campaign financing. But as an AIPAC devotee, who is followed around the campaign trail by his shadow, Joe Lieberman, threatening Iran and continually repeating, “for Israel’s security,” McCain is fooling no one. McCain’s religiosity is all about Israel, which translates into AIPAC money.

UPDATE: From Huffington’s Post this afternoon:

Despite the fact that John McCain and his surrogates have taken recent pains to try to dismiss concerns over the candidate’s relationship with unending font of bigoted vitriol John Hagee, those ties are receiving a thorough airing in this week’s Newsweek Magazine. So, it would seem to be an opportune time to remind you that when it comes to crazy-faced pastor problems, McCain doubles the fun by garnishing the plate with a little Parsley.

Rod Parsley, that is. The puffy evangelist anger box has been described by McCain as his “spiritual advisor.” Some of that advice may have contributed two or three of the “bombs” in McCain’s campaign motto, “Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran,” because, apparently, operating from illuminated manuscripts of his own imaginings, Parsley has decided that the ancient historical imperative of America is “destroying” Islam. I mean, you remember that whole Islamofascist plot where King George levied all those unfair taxes on the colonies, right?

Well, thanks to Mother Jones Magazine and the good folks from Robert Greenwald’s Brave New Films, you may now revel in Parsley’s utter bonkers-ness.

MoJo’s David Corn points out: “McCain aides have said that the senator’s acceptance of Parsley’s endorsement was not an endorsement of Parsley’s views. And they have dismissed any comparison between Reverend Wright and Reverend Parsley, noting that McCain has never attended a service conducted by Parsley. But imagine if Barack Obama had campaigned with an imam who had called for destroying Christianity. A media and political uproar would ensue–with wide-ranging calls for Obama to condemn the imam.”

Is it possible that the right wing wackos for Christ will finally self-destruct and Bush-Rove will finally get out of American politics?
