Welcome back.
This week we will be continuing with the painting of the Victorian house in Las Vegas, New Mexico, seen in the photo directly below. As usual, I’ll be using acrylics. This one is large for me, the canvas is 11×14.
When last seen, the painting appeared as it does in the photo seen directly below.
Since that time I have continued to work on the painting.
I have reshaped the foreground bushes a bit. They now grow gradually smaller toward the right/rear. Their edges are, well, a bit bushier, a bit more ragged. The third and rearmost bush has reduced in width with a shadow on its right side.
Appearing for the first time are the porch railing and siding, situated above a yellowish paved area. These will change a bit for the next installment.
Finally, the windows in the turret now have ochre-colored trim.
The current state of the painting is seen in the photo directly below.
That’s about it for now. I’ll see you next week. As always, feel free to add photos of your own work in the comments section below.
Paint me a picture of your thoughts.
coming along nicely b2. the larger canvas seems, imo, to be pushing you towards a bit more detail than what you’ve been used to doing…which is good.
l’m looking forward to seeing how you deal with the windows…since they seem to be the red-headed stepchild…having done a fair bit of architectural rendering/sketching over the years, l know the problem well.
have fun!
Thanks dada. I’m not sure where I’m going with those windows right now. There is definitely more detail here and this one has taken much longer. I feel like I’ve been painting it for months.
it’s a tough problem. you think that size takes a long time…check out chuck forsman’s work. oil on masonite and BIG!
l’ve known chuck and his lady for a very long time and he only does a couple a year….and they are gorgeous. he’s definitely a photo-realist and a very accomplished photog as well.
l really like his work, wish l could afford one.
Amazing work. Photorealism can produce astounding results. I’d love to be able to do some of that but my partial color blindness doesn’t make for good photorealism.
just saw this…very cool stuff

more images here, and here…ya just knew some flkr-ites’d be on it.

dada,
I wonder what kind of light was used to project so clearly & with such sharpness on so large a canvas.
mystery to me as well…it appears he uses large glass slides, but there’s some serious lighting technology at work to achieve that.
it’d be interesting to see the set up…wonder if it’s laser driven.
Boran2,
It looks like you`re settling into the house quite comfortably..
Looking great.
