I find it telling that John McCain is now declaring himself against Telecom immunity. I know, I know, he is really not against it. All he wants is an apology from the telecoms and then he is for immunity. But the fact of the matter is that McCain has already voted for immunity and is on the record saying it is ‘disgraceful’ that immunity didn’t pass. So for him to come out now and say that he is against immunity is a clear sign that immunity is not polling well among the libertarian wing of the party. And with Bob Barr gearing up to run on government abuse of our privacy rights, McCain stands to lose significant support in some critical states. I think there is a good chance that Barr will pick up double digits in a few states. Idaho comes to mind.

I wonder what size flip flops he wears?
McCain Flip Flops
I couldn’t resist
mccainandhillary are like two peas in a pod. If they want others to see them as something else they just say it no matter how it really is. They are backstabbing no matter what party they belong in. Both are threatened by something or someone and that is the real answer. Neither of them have any integrity for that matter. They both are a disgrace for politics.
BTW, old man mccain probably can’t remember how he voted of if he voted. He rarely goes to work anyhow. He is another one who feel it is owed to him. What with one excuse or the other just like clinton
Sorry to kind of change topics, but this is so cooooool, and it is related to telecoms. My sister in Argentina just sent me a link for a free comuter to computer phone service. Check out Skype. All you need to do is to get a microphone. Just heard my sister from Argentina, and the sound was perfect (I could hear her typing in the computer, dishes in the background)
Way cool!!!!!!!!
Heh. Skype’s been around for a while. My friends who’ve used it really seem to like it.
It is awsome!! (and it is new [for me :0)]
overboard:
These “party leaders” didn’t go to The New York Times with this because they had nothing better to do. I think they’re laying the groundwork for replacing him. Then if McCain forgets where he is again or has any other “senior moments” they will attempt to make him step down.
Call it far-fetched if you will, but if they replace him with a more attractive candidate, Obama’s in deep trouble.
got any suggestions for a more attractive candidate?
LESS attractive candidates.
Rule #1 of Republicanism: Never underestimate the depths to which they could sink. Kathleen Harris comes to mind, as does James Dobson. Yeah, I know, neither one is even a remote possibility, but you’ve got to admit, if they were candidates they’d be impressively awful.
Sorry, that would require me to think like a Republican, and it’s too nice a day out to do that.
Who else is out there that wouldn’t just completely sink the party any further than it already is? Romney? That’d play well in Utah. Huckabee? He didn’t get that much interest when he was running, did he? Gingrich? Oh please, I’d have to be hospitalized on depressants because I’d be laughing so hard.
Maybe a Republican governor that no one knows much of anything about like Jindal. Oh wait, I take that back. The Republicans ran a relatively unknown governor in 2000 and look what happened.
Some potential contenders:
If that’s the case Barr could rack up some numbers in Montana as well, and Wyoming wouldn’t surprise me. Here’s a little story about Montanans:
Barr could do pretty well in Arizona as well. He could even dilute McCain’s results in his own home state that Obama could win it.
Going by this, Barr might not even be necessary: From wapo via Josh Marshall:
And now with the telco immunity bullshit we have yet another episode for the already-huge The Many Faces of John McCain soap opera.
I don’t know what’s going on with the polls, but I’m betting Obama wins in a historic landslide. McCain’s facade of reform and niceness is just way to easy to pull down, and that’s all he has going for him.
I’m just waiting for him to have a temper-tantrum-meltdown on a nationally televised debate against Obama in the general. Barack is learning how to push his buttons right now. When confronted with his own hypocrisy in a debate, he’ll blow a gasket and we’ll all get to see the real McCain. Count on it.
I think the polls will solidify in Obama’s favor once the words gets out via the MSM that he’s the nominee.
He won’t show up for the vote. Do you realize how many he’s skipped this year?
I always look closely at third-party candidates. There are always third-party candidates but some seem to get a lot more attention across the media and pick up support more easily. The typical third-party candidate dies in obscurity.
For ex, Ross Perot provided the means for moving Bush I out and Clinton I into the White House. Perot has been in and around the military part of the power structure. I recall he has some connection with the Defense Industrial Security Command and was doing work for/about Vietnam POWs back in the sixties. Can’t for the life of me remember what the hell DISC was/is.
Bob Barr is a former CIA employee, but what makes me suspicious of him is that he, yes, appeared in “Borat.” That gives him some name recognition in the “low information” crowd and yet makes him totally limited in his appeal. If he gets too popular someone can just post a minute or two from “Borat” and voila he’s a clown again.
Anyway, what were we all talking about?
