(MSNBC) – Pandas derive most of their nutrition from arrow bamboo and can starve once the plant enters its dying-off stage. The stage begins when the bamboo forms flowers, after which the pandas refuse to eat it. The bamboo then starts to produce seeds before dying. Blooming happens about once every 60 years, with a new crop taking 10 years to mature.

For last 10 days I has been travelling in Ladakh (sometimes called Western Tibet). Just after an hour I am leaving for Delhi from Manali.
I was in Ladakh almost 3 years ago (see my diary). There are few changes in situation there, still difficult, no electricity most part of the day, poor internet connection, everything is expensive (by Indian standards), lots of foreign tourists. As I spent there just 10 days, my itinerary was packed with trips, and meetings friends. Of course no TV watching or reading newspapers (except local and Kashmiri). So it was shock for me to find today that in 2 Indian states, Karnataka and Gujarat there were simultaneous blasts killing many people (in Gujarat newspapers say 45 were killed). It seems that in India there are more victims of terrorism than in the whole world together. Everywhere is the heightened security. However I am sure situation will leap bak to normalcy quite soon, and people will go around their routine. Till next blasts. Despite many claims blaming Pakistan ISI and Bangladesh, Pakistan based militant outfits Indian authorities were very slow on investigation and nabbing main culprits. I understand that clandestine terror network is very difficult to crack but I am surprised Indian agencies did not try to penetrate these networks or were unsuccessful.
